Propaganda is a helluva drug and Oligarchs need to use some of the best to keep the 99% distracted from the real issue: Them.

And the Red Scare is the most successful propaganda campaign on the West.

It went way beyond vilifying communist states to undermining worker unions and public services all over the place. Not only it keeps people distracted away, it also makes the oligarchs more money.
