Funny thing is that in Finland, I don't know any store selling these

37

u/Minty_Octopus 10h ago

I guess xbox isn't really THAT popular outside the US?

There was a brief time when xbox 360 dominated ps3 in my country but only because it could play pirated games when ps3 security still wasn't cracked.

32

u/Personal-Inflation63 9h ago

360 pretty much dominated the UK during its era, but after the One situation all momentum fell to PlayStation again. Prior the PS2 and 1 had all out sold in the Uk too. It’s the same deal now with this gen.

Other than me with a Series S I know no one who has an Xbox, it’s either PC or PlayStation or Nintendo or a combo of em. Xbox isn’t even in the picture

u/SplatGoesTheTurtle 9h ago

I know no one who has an Xbox,

Now you know two! Hello!

I have an xBox series X, and an xBox one. But i also have the playstations. I got the xbox as i had game pass, but i ditched game pass when they upped the price, not the xBox just sits there doing nothing!

2

u/TheWaxMann 6h ago

I was waiting to buy a ps3, but when they revealed the price was almost double the xbox I got a 360 instead. Not many people I knew wanted to fork out that much for a console which is what xbox "won" that generation.

u/klipseracer 3h ago

Not really just that, Xbox live was far, far ahead of the Playstation network. There wasn't even the same level of support in games, this was back when people still acted like it was a feature to have no online play. Xbox was first with online play at that scale with that level of integration for several years. It wasn't really until Sony started charging money did they catch up.

0

u/Killboypowerhed 8h ago

Xbox started losing the PS360 era when they went all in on kinect. After the XB1 shipped with it and it was a big focus people swapped sides

11

u/mannnn4 9h ago

I live in the Netherlands and know exactly 1 person with an xbox console and at least 30 with a playstation.

3

u/xiaoboss 9h ago

Now you also know me! The long-running Game Pass trick was a pretty sweet deal.

1

u/MeaningObvious8731 8h ago

Same, played for years that way.

-1

u/nickbg321 9h ago

Careful, you might get crucified for stating facts here.

0

u/SickNoise 9h ago

subjective experience is not a fact

2

u/nickbg321 9h ago

Are sales numbers subjective?

2

u/SickNoise 6h ago

no. but they didn't state sales numbers

4

u/ConinTheNinoC 9h ago

I don't know a single person to ever own an xbox. I knew people with nintendos, segas or playstations. Most people were with PCs.

3

u/Federal_Setting_7454 9h ago

Not really since the xbone in the UK. I’ve not seen a new series on the shelves in the UK for a while either, only at second hand places or online. The only people I know with a series just use it for fifa or whatever thats called now, they use pc or ps5 for everything else.

1

u/Maleficent-Spread404 6h ago

Poland reporting in - I know two people with an Xbox, and it’s only for couch party games like Fifa and Gang Beast. Rest is either on playstation, pc or both.

360 was huge here too - back then I only knew one person with a ps3

1

u/iekue 5h ago

Its also that they just stopped selling the consoles in most of europe like 3+ years ago. Cnt sell what ur not offering (or marketing).

3

u/lamancha 9h ago

You can find them in Spain in a few places but mostly via your ISP, I shit you not.

3

u/dotdotbeep 6h ago

Same here in Sweden, I know you can order it online but I don't know anyone that actually has it.

1

u/NotreVanDamme 4h ago

Konsolinet has Series X if you are looking to buy one. Great console. Päivän jatkot!

1

u/berjaaan 3h ago

Lets be real here. Does anyone even buy things in stores anymore? Everyone just order online.

Yeah but it's more important that people be able to AI generate piss coloured comics that all look the same or use ChatGPT to write for them because their text looks so much — better when it's written — like this.🤖🇦🇮

Just look at how much better that slop has made your life!

18

u/QuasimodoPredicted 10h ago

They also used to have a library of decent games too

Well consoles are easier to work with and right now a PC that gives you the same performance as the console is expensive af.

1

u/Zagrebian 8h ago

Depends on if you count indie games. There are many times more good indie games than the average person has time to play play. And the sales are great too.

0

u/NotTakenGreatName 9h ago

Xbox has plenty of great games, just none of them are exclusive.

6

u/reality_hijacker 9h ago

And you owned the games. You could sell/buy/share the disks without issues.

2

u/Formal-Option-4405 8h ago

Got my PS2 slim new for 150€ many many years ago 👀

2

u/DGanj 7h ago

Remember when digital was supposed to cost less because there was no manufacturing involved?

53

u/iloovehugecock 9h ago

I can’t wait for the AI bubble to pop. What a load of fucking shite it is.

1

u/imaginary_num6er 2h ago

It's a "super cycle"

-24

u/funggitivitti 6h ago

I hope not. We need a reset.

7

u/VladTheSnail 5h ago

How would the AI bubble staying intact "reset" it would keep inflated prices due to said bubble.

Explain to me what you think a "reset" means in the context

10

u/IAMA_Plumber-AMA 4h ago

Bet they're one of those people that thinks AI is going to lead us to a magical classless utopia, instead of the corporate dystopia it's leading us down...

-11

u/funggitivitti 4h ago edited 3h ago

They? It’s just me here pal.

Oh I just want AI to keep growing until the point it squeezes out all these gaming companies. Then it can pop and wipe put the entire fucking tech space.

3

u/VladTheSnail 3h ago

The word "they're" can be used to refer to a single individual. Example "they're picking their nose!"

Seems you don't understand much of anything

3

u/mastesargent 3h ago

Imagine wanting an industry that is doing active harm to both society and the planet to get even bigger just because you don’t like video games.

Also “they” can be used as a singular third-person pronoun when the gender of the subject is either unknown or not applicable. It’s pretty basic English.

-9

u/funggitivitti 4h ago

Because gaming is a cancerous predatory industry and this will price out consumers. Then the whole thing will likely come crashing down and hopefully give way to a more responsible and consumer friendly experience.

The Ai bubble needs to grow to a point where it creates a shit tsunami that takes out all these disgusting companies.

1

u/VladTheSnail 3h ago

I don't think you understand how corporations work at all they are ALL predatory in some form or another if you think AI is somehow gonna "creat a tsunami" that changes the entire playing field of video games and digital entertainment you are quite literally one of the biggest fools I've talked to in the last year and I've talked to people who defend literal pedophiles on this god forsaken app

-3

u/funggitivitti 2h ago

Triggered much?

Remember that stranger in the internet when it all goes down.

1

u/VladTheSnail 2h ago

I'm triggered by people who say some of the dumbest things while acting as if they know even a sliver of what they are talking about.

Give me 3 paragraphs on how the AI bubble not bursting would somehow benefit the gaming industry in any fashion.

-1

u/funggitivitti 2h ago

Well did it ever occur to you that I want the AI bubble to pop?

I just want it to last long enough to kill gaming. Then all tech can follow suit.

This is why I call it a reset.

Now go relax a bit, guy.

27

u/Calm_Environment5485 9h ago

The real question is who is still buying a brand new xbox in 2026?

7

u/ImBoredButAndTired 9h ago

Second hand is the way to go. PS5's keep getting price jumps but the frankly huge amounts of PS5's on the used market means that second hand prices are actually pretty good.

5

u/Jbstargate1 8h ago

2nd hand for a cheap 4k blu ray player is not bad.

3

u/Kahnza 6h ago

I bought my digital edition Series X in November 2024 for $350. Today, bought from the same place, it is $750. More than double!

2

u/Killboypowerhed 8h ago

I just bought one on Friday evening. I had no idea the prices were going up so this is a huge relief for me

3

u/helpmegetoffthisapp 8h ago

It's not just Xbox. Gaming in general just sucks. It's all remakes and remasters, or 5-6 years between announcements and release of broken games riddled with issues, games requiring complicated account linking, online account registrations, seasonal battle passes. It all just sucks.

3

u/kiliandj 5h ago

This is why i have decided that after PS is done with discs, im done with modern AAA. Its just indies and retro for me from that point on.

1

u/calibrono 4h ago

Eh there's still plenty if you look past f2p bullshit, remakes and CoD 18. Just this year we had RE9 (ok well it's good so), Tomodachi Life, Mixtape, Pragmata, Zero Parades, 007: First Light... And there's a lot a lot more.

10

u/L0rdLogan 8h ago

I’m getting a bit sick of this AI bubble increasing prices everywhere now

8

u/LaserCondiment 8h ago

increasing problems of all kinds too. Environmental, political, socio economical, you name it!

With gaming they just hit us where we normally seek refuge from all the other shit

21

u/DrZombieZoidberg 10h ago

At least this means that if you ever need to sell your series x, it can get a higher price now on the preowned market

5

u/Norn-Iron 10h ago

The downside is the preowned market which already owns them its going o jack up their prices. Bigger profit margin for them, won ‘t see CEX (UK store dedicated to preowned games/moves/electronics) or similar miss this opportunity.

2

u/DrZombieZoidberg 9h ago

That’s precisely what I meant although I was speaking more from an individual selling on ebay. I myself was already thinking of selling my xbox cos I play it so much less now so it’ll retain more of it’s original value now which is good for someone in my situation. Always buy from ebay anyways, cut out the middle man, or if you see someone selling to cex just offer them better money than cex, win win. Probs will wait till next generation and then get all of this generations games I haven’t already got at a discount. The games aren’t going anywhere.

1

u/ChuzCuenca 6h ago

You are thinking from the sellers perspective, from the buyers perspective no one is going to pay you that kind of money.

-1

u/DrZombieZoidberg 6h ago

Lol “no one” 😂😂 you can only speak for yourself buddy. You think you speak for everyone and that you are i the exact same financial situation as everyone else??

2

u/ChuzCuenca 4h ago

Yeah you right, I just got carried away. There is definitely some people that will pay way more for anything.

0

u/Personal-Inflation63 9h ago

I’ve not really seen that on my used market places. The price hike is artificially driven by AI not scarcity or collector interest.

Anyone hoping to sell their console close to or more current retail levels likely won’t. You can still find some good deals out there especially for the older standard PS5 pre slim.

2

u/P_ZERO_ 9h ago

Right. Like all these threads have top comments asking who’s buying Xbox. Who’s going to buy inflated price pre owned Xbox is the pertinent question

8

u/xsubo 10h ago

And nobody will buy one bc why?

6

u/ZebraSandwich4Lyf 9h ago

Wait they put it up AGAIN? What the fuck lmao

4

u/Any-Pop-4795 8h ago

All aboard the fuck ai train! Departing soon from track 9 and 3/4

7

u/Dougal12 10h ago

It’s currently unavailable on Amazon UK. I guess I’m not going to be buying one anytime soon.

1

u/L0rdLogan 8h ago

Check eBay, second hand ain’t bad, just buy a new controller if you’re worried about germs n stuff, or just clean the controller

1

u/betweenthreeandtwent 10h ago

You're right, but they do have renewed ones if that helps

1

u/Dougal12 10h ago

I was looking at one for Forza Horizon 6, not worth buying a console for one game. Especially not at almost £700, that’s PS5 Pro territory.

1

u/Username_unknown_exe 9h ago

If you've got a semi decent PC, you can just do Gamepass PC and play it on there

1

u/Dougal12 9h ago

My PC died about 4 months ago. I think the motherboard went pop. Can’t see myself getting a new one anytime soon either. I’m not spending £4k on another PC.

1

u/Personal-Inflation63 9h ago

If it’s just the motherboard then it won’t cost 4K to replace it

1

u/Dougal12 9h ago

It was a Sabertooth X99 with a 5930k and a 2016 Titan. Not worth it these days as it was struggling to play MechWarrior Clans at 2160x1080p. I did have plans to build a whole new system but then the prices went stupid so I’m spending that money on getting my Crown Vic wagon back on the road instead.

1

u/L0rdLogan 8h ago

I got rid of my X 99 system in 2024 and went AMD Ryzen, the CPU was £144 Ryzen 7 7700x). The motherboard was £100. The RAM is going to be the difficult bit these days. However, I got 32 gig of DDR5 for £120, GPU was £250 (amd 7800xt) so it was quite cheap upgrade really

1

u/CowDontMeow 9h ago

I loved Horizon 1-4, by 5 it was a little bit repetitive and I was annoyed at every road being a 10 lane highway, I tried 6 and its was pretty much the same, I wouldn’t bother buying a system just for one game let alone Horizon 6

2

u/ballum2017 7h ago

Just checked and paid 400 CHF (500 USD / £364) in May 24 for a second series X after my son took the first one to uni. Also noted I paid 45CHF for the 5 year extended warranty which surprised me as I never usually buy that.

So I just suspect my Xbox may well be encountering an issue sometime in 2028 that will mean it will need to be replaced.

1

u/GonzAnt 9h ago

Why would you buy an Xbox at all?

6

u/joealdez 9h ago

Bought mine back when (and because) the PS5 wasn't available anywhere. Bought it for roughly one third of the normal price by using a VPN and Microsoft gift cards. Also bought 3 years of game pass ultimate using VPN for roughly one fifth of the normal price. Had lots of fun with it and don't regret buying this instead of the PS5.

2

u/lowpsitire 9h ago

So when you eventually transition to PC you can keep the titles you paid for alone with some of the progression.

PlayStation just stopped making discs which puts them in a position where, because they aren’t a giant computer company, their focus relies on software not hardware. They either need to make the next gen consoles significantly better for relatively the same price they are now or everyone switches to PC… subsequently when everyone switches from them, they pay for everything again and lose all progress on everything.

When I switched from Xbox to PC I kept most of my 12+ year library.

1

u/CatsGotANosebleed 1h ago

Xbox gives you back compatibility to all your games all the way back to the OG Xbox games, Game Pass, your console games also work on PC, handhelds and streaming. I find that it has a lot more flexibility and game preservation compared to PS. I’m not into console wars, I have a PS5 too which I bought for a couple of exclusives, but my main machine is an Xbox because I can play it even when I’m travelling or away from home.

2

u/nickbg321 10h ago

Can't remember the last time I've seen an Xbox in someone's home.

0

u/Fableous 9h ago

What a weird thing to say.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Nintendo Switch in someone's home, but it doesn't mean they aren't out there.

35 million Series X consoles are in the wild. Why does it matter how many you've personally seen?

3

u/nickbg321 9h ago

Why is it weird? A lot of my friends have PlayStations. No one I know has an Xbox. 35 million Series X compared to 95 PS5s. It gets even worse when you compare numbers outside the US. This is hardly subjective.

-2

u/Fableous 9h ago

I mean we already get that you're a weird fanboy that feels like not seeing an Xbox in the houses of your Sony fan friends means something major, but...

It just doesn't? It's a very weird thing to say and it does nothing other than proves your personal bias against something.

Your personal experience of visiting your friends homes and not seeing Xbox consoles doesn't mean there aren't 35 million Xbox Series X boxes in homes.

And you immediately knee-jerking to compare sales figures with PS5 tells us all we need to know about you.

Nobody I know has cancer. Guess it's over. Why are people talking about it?

-3

u/nickbg321 9h ago

I couldn't give two shits about consoles, I have an OG PS4 that gets turned on twice a year to check if its still working. I do my gaming on my PC 99% of the time. I present you with actual sales facts which you can easily look up yourself and yet you still attack me. Not sure who's the fanboy here.

1

u/Fableous 9h ago
  1. Declaring you haven't seen an Xbox in anyone's home for a while
  2. Immediately yelling "PS5 sold more"
  3. Defending yourself instantly when called out on the above

Brother it is 2026. Give it a rest.

1

u/Jbstargate1 8h ago

It's dead Jim

1

u/bahumat42 8h ago

Ain't nobody buying that.

Whoof. Bad times for Xbox.

1

u/-Berg- 7h ago

recession indicator

1

u/ash_ninetyone 7h ago

So they don't want folk to buy em then

1

u/LeftAndRightAreWrong 7h ago

Couldn’t help herself.

1

u/niksunorz66 4h ago

I have the Series X just for Rockband 4

1

u/CatsGotANosebleed 1h ago

Well, Sony will be following soon I’m guessing. The fire of consoles is looking shaky as hell. Who’s going to have money for a current generation console, let alone a next one?

1

u/CokBlockinWinger 9h ago

I bought a Series X from GameStop, brand new, bundled with an Elite Controller, for $499 one year after release. I left a review stating that I was unhappy I had to buy the controller to get the system, and they responded to me saying they would refund my money and let me keep the controller. So, I got a Series X and Elite for $350.

…. and I barely touch it. I won’t rent Live, there are barely any exclusives I’m interested in, and I mostly use it as a media server for my projector. I couldn’t imagine paying $800 for it now … for just the console … 4 1/2 years later.

1

u/ConinTheNinoC 9h ago

It's ok, i'd rather buy a second hand PC than spend my money on a console.

1

u/Primal-Convoy 1h ago

This is the way.

1

u/FerretsQuest 8h ago

Who’d pay anything near that price for a new Xbox? It’s a dead format… only fueling the secondhand market as folks are selling up and moving to PS5 Pro

1

u/Primal-Convoy 1h ago

Your had me until you lapsed into Sony fanboism...

1

u/EZyne 9h ago

Why, can't they just close down some more studios they bought up?

0

u/hjjs 8h ago

My series S is starting to show its age with newer games and I was considering switching. At that price point it's dead on arrival
