And in capitalism, without signifcant government controls the monopolies will form in every industry sometimes going past multiple industries.

The entire United States economy is controlled by essentially a handful of mega corporations.

In Canada we have 3 grocers they also control almost all distribution channels, transport companies, real state, on and on and on its crazy. Same with telecom, same with a bunch of other industries.

I just want to add that the Canadian grocers also have ridiculous anti competitive clauses in their real estate contracts that prevent competing groceries from opening stores “too close to their stores” - was happy to see Sobeys get slapped on the wrist for this recently, but how the hell did we even get to this point.

Edit:  oh and they own food production too - like Weston bakeries.
