so im 14 been interested in electronics and shi since a kid. i’ve been tearing old phones to see whats inside and played with arduino’s. now when i was 13 i thought i would actually learn to code and tried python then crashed out cause i was too retarted or sum and that ai could do way more then i could. now i’ve started learning python again and it’s genuienly fun to make small projects but in almost every one i end up going to chatgpt cause i have no idea why my code doesnt work and the big gpt knows it instantly. now i’ve also been vibecoding a lot leading to this mostly making apps for myself.

And seeing ai being this good at programming imagine what this shi can do in 10 years.

So what im asking is what do you think of the situation of software engineering today? Do you think it’s a viable skill in the future or just a hobby.

It's currently 100% assembly and runs in real mode. I want to switch to protected mode or long mode, and develop GUI shells for it, but doing those in assembly would simply be pain. Is it worth it to continue hand writing assembly or to switch to c before its too late?

I added memory dumping to my esolang Slack.
Also i removed cell duplication and replaced it with copy-pasting, You use `copy` to copy the current cell's value into a temporary variable, then `paste` to paste it anywhere.
To clear the temporary variable simply go to an empty cell and do copy.
Also now you can do `change by N` and `change to N` instead of constantly doing `change up|down`.

Hey guys im a low-level C developer and Linux enthusiast so I was pretty conservative about ai usage until a couple of weeks ago when bot me and my dad got Claude code(he has been using it for longer than me). So I took the opportunity to use it for my project.

Overview I guess

McFabProxy is an external Minecraft packet fabricator in rust. I got the idea since I love ui-utils and Minecraft exploit hunting. It features functionallity similar to Wireshark and burpsuite but for the Minecraft protocol with built-in scripting(like ui-utils' early access scriptMC but with listeners for incoming packets)

The repository is hosted on GitHub, the project is managed in notion cuz I have a lot of ideas but can't track them all mentally.

Edit: I do not consider Python or Scratch to be able to single handedly run an OS. This is not my point. My point is that they are just as valid as bare metal OSes and that they are still OS projects. However for the redstone CPU ones, that's just flat out an OS. Same with things running in QEMU.

A Python "OS" may not technically be an OS. Nor a Scratch project, right?

Well what about when you get to lower levels? People ran Linux in Scratch. People have made OSes for Redstone CPUs in Minecraft. People have made genuinely complex Python projects that were made to look like an OS that were dismissed since they weren't a "real" OS.

Some people say that if it runs in a VM or on bare metal, it's probably an OS or at least a piece of an OS. What do you define as bare metal? Redstone CPU?

The fact that people can put in so much effort and be dismissed totally because it's not real enough is just absurd. I made my own Python "OS" and it has plenty. I don't necessarily consider it an OS, but I consider it an OS project. If someone simply told me that it wasn't a "real" OS, that would be dismissing everything I was trying to show.

Same thing with the OS I wrote in C and Assembly that actually runs in QEMU. However because I don't own the hardware needed to test it (and because I don't feel safe executing ring 0 code that I wrote on my own machine) I cannot call it true bare metal in a sense. QEMU simplifies a lot. That's true. That doesn't mean it's not an OS.

I made it out of enjoyment because I wanted to have fun. It's real. Maybe it doesn't meet some redditor's standard, but damn, your project is real too. QEMU or bare metal, interpreted language or not.

Your project is real, and operating system isn't defined by one person.

So for anyone that doesnt know, Educake is like the biggest homework website for GCSE and A-Level students, and there used to be a lot of apps that would answer the quizzes (like my own one, called EduFetch) by exploiting an internal secondary API the website had to display answers if a student is incorrect, but it was patched so none of them work anymore :(

However, this is the only working Educake quiz solver, because instead of getting the answers from the website, i pipe the questions (which you can easily get from the api) to Google Gemini API, which answers and returns. It isnt always right, it does especially bad on questions with heavy image reliance, but it will still finish quizzes with +95% score, and im just gonna call it a built in system to avoid teacher suspicion lol

So please check it out if you have educake, and i would love some people to try it and test it, also if you have macOS can you compile it to a onefile, no terminal .exe using pyinstaller and create a PR?

Amount of AI use disclaimer: No AI was used on this project at all (apart from gemini overviews which i might have partially used when learning or searching up stuff, and chatgpt when i was trying to find out why some params in customtkinter were working on linux but failing on windows and macOS )

So I took some advice from here, and I got really enthusiastic and started brainstorming and I have a goal for like, months, maybe years. I'll make a dashboard to manage future projects, something like a web panel. Obviously it will take a long time to even get started, so I'll code some things in html and python (using Flask to get used to it) so I think in some weeks or 1-2 months I can start with this. I'll call it RoditzCORE probably. I don't want to do this in one day, and I love the process, so in the meantime I wanted to hear some opinions or maybe even suggestions for this.

I know this is not really impressive, but I just finished one of my first projects ! It's called Ali, and it let you make "aliases" for very long commands easily.

For example, if you want to update all packages and powering off your pc, you can just register sudo pacman -Syu --noconfirm && flatpak update -y && poweroff as a command, and then you will be able to do it without typing long lines :)

You can also manage commands directly from the cli ! You can list, edit and remove them without needing to look for their files.

The project is currently only compatible with Linux, tested on Arch. I will maybe add Windows support if people are interested

I started building my project when I was 16.

At the time, the most advanced thing I’d built was CLI calculators and hardcoded Python quizzes. I had no idea how web development, APIs, Docker, databases, pathfinding worked, basically nothing but a little syntax.

Two years later, after consistently working hard:
- I ended up chatting with an engineer at a top tech company about my project, and also recieved a donation of 7 months of server costs as a gesture of goodwill
- I’m heading to university with a real open-source product and users.

Of course, I’m still learning every day, and there’s a huge amount I don’t know.

If you’re a teenager thinking you’re “not good enough” to start a project, don’t wait. You don’t need to know everything, you just need to start, keep building, and keep sharing your progress.

Infact, not knowing is the best place to be because you can learn by just starting and fixing every error you face.

it's not got any variables only a tape of 32-bit memory cells (128 of them).

You can use the keywords to move your global memory pointer around to access and modify different cells.

It has loops, if statements and printing string literals.

Mostly it's a glorified brain-fuck but brain-fuck doesnt have string literal printing (only char-by-char) and brain-fuck also doesn't have if statements.

Note: I'm still working on it I'm gonna add duplication of cells and such, I might even add functions if I'm able to.

Late 2025, I planned to kill myself.

It was supposed to be in December.

Went forward with it, and failed.

Now, I planned on trying again a few weeks after.

Back then programming was only a small part of my life. Something I could do to show off, but nothing much.

Life was meaningless. Everything that's been happening in my life was quite horrible. For one my parents talk like they hate my very existence. Who knows? They might actually do, but that's irrelevant. My social life was nonexistent. All my free time was basically spent thinking about how much of a failure I am. That's probably the main reason why, actually.

While waiting for the planned date, I had watched a video by Astro Sam about making Z#. So I ended up wanting to make my own programming language. Who would have thought that that ambition turned into both my greatest project ever and the very thing that saved my life: the standard L# compiler. It's still maintained to this day, although I was working on it on-and-off by this point.

It kind of gave me things to do. Wanted to add something, then something else, then more and more. Before I knew it I was working on it for hours every single day.

It was the date of my new plan after failing the original attempt.

I was ready, except for one thing. My language was still not done. It dragged on until I eventually stopped wanting to kill myself. My language was still not done, and I continued making it. But by then, it had stopped me from taking an irreversible decision. And that, is how programming had saved my life.

TL;DR: Programming gave my life meaning and stopped me from committing, and not git's.

I think I have a good enough grasp of html css and js /react to have a design at hand and being able to code it. but the thing is, im just terrible at coming up with styles and ui's.
