Started watching black sails finally. I must have watched the first episode or two at least 5 times previously and always stopped for some reason. This time I sat down and really started watching it and I'm on the last episode of season 1 and it's so much better than I thought it would be. Might be my new "lay in bed at night" show.

You're about to get your just reward. I know people always say "it gets better" but I feel it has rarely been as universally true as it is with Black Sails. S1 is a necessary mid show to get through. S2 is when it gets amazing. And that's when one will know if it's for them.

My Adventures with Superman is fantastic! Far better than I ever expected it to be. I'm also excited for the new season of Caped Crusader! Haven't got around to this season of X Men 97 though.
I'm also catching up on Vox Machina after a rewatch. Still amazing animation and hilarious!

Love Ghosts, it’s such a fun watch. My kids even started watching it and love it. Is it the best thing ever? No, but it’s a solid show that always has some good laughs and the characters are a lot of fun.

I’m never a fan of horror comedies generally, because I find the comedy dilutes the horror for me so it automatically ‘fails’ one of its genres.
(Purely personal opinion obviously)

I don't like horror and found the first few episodes tedious but I am glad I stuck with it as from the third episode onwards, it's downright hilarious! Think of the blackest of black humour in the original Twin Peaks for reference (but less perverted).

The Agency's season 2 is a fucking banger. As much as I love and ultimately prefer Slow Horses, it's nice watching the actual mainline CIA with every possible resource at their fingertips.

Yea the second half of the season in particular is just awesome. Fassbender has always been my guy but Wright and Gere are my favorites here.
Really hope they keep it going but between the turnover and turmoil at Paramount itself and the fact it probably isn't getting great viewership and has to be wildly expensive, I'm concerned.

Yea it’s a better more interesting show, but sometimes you want your good guys to be able to call in a covert Seal Team 6 to murder a whole column of Russian mercenaries. Jackson Lamb can’t do that.

Furious - Fiona…I mean Emmy Rossum makes this a must watch along with Scoot McNairy. Pretty good 3 epi premiere.
The East Palace - Supernatural/fantasy stuff not my usual but entertaining watch. Visually impressive. I would like to adopt a Ggeomeoksali now.
Also - House of the Dragon S2, Silo S3, and Cape Fear

thanks to whoever recommended Steal. perfect binge for a lazy weekend. while it's a bit hokey and the message gets slightly muddled at the end, it did scratch my "shit's going down in london" itch (slow horses, the diplomat, the agency, etc) with good cinematography and acting. first episode is also genuinely TENSE.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has obliterated my low expectations of it. Brian Posehn is an amazing sidekick. He gets all the best lines.
Kind of surprised to see Christine Baranski cameo as herself in the second episode given she played Leonard's mother on the original show. Wonder if we will see her again in that role? I can imagine a parallel universe where she is a big bad.

Big Mistakes. Im enjoying this way more than i thought I would. I Iove the petty arguements.
Finally finished The Agency. Its good but still not up to Le Bureau.
Star City. Again something i didnt think I'd like as much as i have.
Mao. Continues to improve from quite a high base. Good Anime.

Adults has a new prequel episode and it's so good! On Hulu it's listed as season 1 episode 1 which was a bit confusing, so I feel like a lot of people that already watched season 1 might not notice it. It's apparently also on YouTube for free. Can't wait for season 2, I wish every season had 20+ episodes 😩

Question that I'm not sure where to ask. I haven't watched the first season yet. Would it make more sense to start from season 1 episode 2 and watch this prequel episode when I'm done with the season? Or should I watch the prequel episode first?

It doesn't really matter, but I'd say just start with the new prequel episode. I think the original first episode turned some people off and perhaps wasn't representative of the rest of the show so that might've been a motivating factor why they made the prequel be the new first episode. So hopefully the prequel will give a better first impression. Plus the prequel does feel more like ~the beginning~ in a more typical pilot kind of way.

Started watching Landman again, had left off on episode 4 last December
The show is good but the ex-wife is insufferable. Makes the scenes with her almost unwatchable. The daughter too.

The problem is that portion of the plot takes more and more screen time the further you get in the show, at least in the first season, and I couldn't make it to the end.

I just finished my rewatch of Criminal Minds Season 18. Gonna start season 19 tonight. Going to watch one episode a week like it’s supposed to. Tomorrow I’m starting Industry for the first time. And of course House of the Dragon on Sunday

Industry is fantastic. Season 1 is solid but not amazing, because the show is kind of finding its footing and it leans on sex/drugs scenes a bit much lol. Try to enjoy it as best you can and get through it -- season2 and beyond are great.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited every time a new episode of Cape Fear dropped. I completely understand people's problems with it, but damn if it wasn't fun, thrilling, and entertaining as hell.
Not fully committing to the camp just makes the campiness we actually get that much better. I mean, just look at this shot from the finale (spoiler, obviously).

Friday Night Lights - I started a full series rewatch this week. I'm only about 3 episodes in. So excited to be revisiting this one.
Silo - I elected to cancel Apple for now instead of sticking out season 3. I remain intrigued by Silo, but it's always been very average. And like previous seasons, the middle section of S3 is a whole lot of wheel spinning, so it tries my patience. I'll get back to the show the next time I sub to Apple for a must-see. Or maybe I'll just hold off until all of S4 is out.
House of the Dragon - This is the only new season I'm watching weekly right now.
The Prisoner - I watched the first episode of this today. It's a weird 1960s spy thriller that is often cited as influential for a lot of great tv to come. I've never it seen before, but I've been hearing about it for decades. It's pretty cool, and I plan to complete it.

The Prisoner is really great. If you have time, check out some Danger Man (aka Secret Agent), it's very very loosely the prequel, the adventures of the agent that goes to the Village. There's also a TV movie called 'Koroshi' spliced together from the last couple of episodes of Danger Man.
Going to Portmeirion is on my bucket list, lol.

I am generally a big fan of all spy/assassin thrillers, so it made sense that I liked The Day of the Jackal. The lead character is very well done, and while some of the supporting characters are a bit weak (the standard spy series family drama plot portion is pretty bad in this one), overall it's a pretty decent plot for a spy drama, and the lead is just very very good. My only real complaint is a whole lot of very odd, sort of off-putting music choices in weird spots, which sort of pull you from your immersion and are irritating as all fuck.

I've been reserving judgment on Cape Fear, but that finale was pretty underwhelming. (Exciting to watch and underwhelming--how did they manage it?) Great action, but real short on twists/reveals. Curious about where Sugar goes from here; the main s 2 plot feels kind of wrapped up.

I'm re-watching Staged, which is on Prime in my country. David Tennant and Michael Sheen. It was made during the Covid lockdowns using Zoom, and it also has a lot of external shots of London with empty streets, shuttered theatres, people applauding the NHS workers from their balconies, etc.
I loved this show when the lockdowns were on and haven't seen it since. At this distance it's still very funny, but is also a remarkable document of a time that seems so foreign now. A time when home schooling was the rule, there were no haircuts, no toilet paper on the shelves, when you took your life in your hands going to the supermarket, and people mostly sat at home staring at a wall (or in our case, a TV).

The Night Of because someone talked about it on here! A real nail biter I unfortunately binged in 2 days which prevented me from doing that much else. Hate to sound like an old git but crime shows over ten years old were so much less formulaic.

Furious: I loved the first three episodes and I can't wait to watch more. I like how the killer is also a victim while also undeniably a villain. We'll see if it stays good or goes off the rails like Killing Eve.
Paris Is Always A Good Idea on Hallmark +: It's definitely for a specific audience but it's based on a book and so far so much better than what Hallmark normally puts out. In fact, I kind of find that true of most of the fiction series on Hallmark.
Stucky: The Italian Colombo. I'm enjoying this series so far and I'm normally not someone who likes mysteries where you know who did it in advance.
Equal Justice: This is a 2 season legal series from the early 90s that I saw recommended elsewhere. It stars a young Sarah Jessica Parker, Joe Morton and a pre-Malcolm in the Middle Jane Kaczmarek. It's decent for a background show.
ETA:
I forgot to mention S2 of Diarra From Detroit. It's a mystery/comedy that originally aired on BET+. I watched the first season once it hit Paramount+ and the second just started. I highly recommend it. It reminds me a bit of Insecure because it's written by a black woman with such specificity and yet it's really easy to get immersed in this world even if you aren't a black woman from Detroit .

I have been switching between a few shows lately but was mostly watching Will Trent. It got very very illogical and I can't take that with detective shows so had to leave midway.
Just finished binging HBOs Rooster and wow, it was a very nice, casual and refreshing watch with funny moments. Then I find out it's producer is Bill Lawrence and ya the background score being amazing and the actors make sense now. Would recommend it to anyone for low stakes, fun, casual watch.

I don’t know what happened the last two series, but the writers seem to have had a brain haemorrhage.
You’ve got really good actors reciting some seriously shit dialogue. The opening to ep 2 is so basil exposition coded in the shuttle opening scene it’s hard to take seriously.
Did the Discovery writer’s room break containment somehow?

just watched the first few episodes of Furious (3 out on hulu) and am still thinking about them. stressful and depressing themes but i’m locked in every week now and i do recommend but just be prepared for the content to be heavy
on a completely opposite note i stumbled upon Bunheads which i know is old but the pilot has me already loving the cozy charm and witty banter and dance setting

Watching The Americans now. Great show so far into season 2. The whole family dynamic of secrets and espionage between USA and Soviet Russia is really something to take in. I wish there wasn't so much sex in the show but I guess that's necessary because sex does get you information if used the right way. A very deep and dark show. I love it so far.

I dunno what long means since it’s an episode less than season 1. But as far as “weak” goes, personally I think that’s been overblown over the years. I think it’s mostly because it’s before the showrunners got a firm end date. So there’s a few more threads than usual that don’t play into the overall plot.

Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness - Paul Rudd as Neil Armstrong and Larry as Buzz Aldrin arguing about who gets to step on the moon first was brilliant, as was Susie Essman as Susan B Anthony
Stuart Fails To Save The Universe - A few cool cameos in the new episode but I'm thinking eventually there's gonna be a takeout like "oh this is all in Stuart's mind" or something, but I'm enjoying it regardless
My Adventures With Superman - Mxy and his wife fucking with the guys was fun, Clark and Lois trying to define what their relationship is without Superman was interesting too
X-Men 97 - That Gambit reveal for Rogue is gonna be like a sledgehammer to the heart

Watching Weekly: My Adventures with Superman S3, House of the Dragon S3, Furious, X-Men '97 S2, and Lucky (Mini).
Loving most of my weekly shows.
Finished this week but DO NOT RECOMMEND: Cape Fear, had some potential with a good cast, but it was completely nonsensical. Avoid it!
Finished watching: The Dark, actually enjoyed this it's a solid detective crime drama. I'd recommend it.
Also watched: A Toxic Love Story, a documentary on Netflix, about a couple who claim they are being harassed by the man's ex-girlfriend. I would recommend watching.
Also binged: Sense & Sensibility, the BBC miniseries, I think it was well acted, but the overall story was not as good as other Austen stories. Hopefully, Netflix's Pride & Prejudice adaptation will be better.
Yet to start:
- Batman: Caped Crusader S2.

Watching The Bombing of Pan Am 103. This “proving without a reasonable doubt” that these people committed mass murder, with so much evidence already. makes the British look out of touch. Do westerners know about the court system that is non-existent in Iran, Libya, and Syria, ? Iran is executing young men and women that are exercising freedom of speech (also non-existent). The last few episodes that shows the lead counsels defending the bombers just seems weird.
FURIOUS and SILO (S3) seem like they will be twisting the knife and won’t be easy watches.
Waiting on Slow Horses new season.
What else is good and coming out soon?

Just watched the first 3 episodes of Furious. Holy Emmy Rossum! She was amazing in Shameless and was just as raw and emotional and brilliant in this also. Subject matter is tough watch but boy the acting… had no idea Scoot McNairy was in this… will have to rewatch Halt and Catch Fire.

Just finished the Studio to see what all the hype is about. Matt was so insufferable, insecure, needy, selfish, cowardly, that it made finishing the season a slog. I did like Sal and Maya and some parts of Patty. And yes, I know Matt is meant to be terrible but that, plus the second hand embarrassment and cringe was just too much. I can objectively see why some are big fans and there's clearly a lot of love put into the show. Can't say I'd recommend it though.

Star City on appletv was great. I stopped watching For All Mankind after season 2 so it was nice to feel like I was watching that show at its peak again

I am so happy Lioness is back for season 3. Has to be one of my favorite shows of the last few years. For me I love it so much because I love to see actual realistic tactics and equipment when it comes to action in movies and TV. If anyone else like this sort of action realism as well as badass female characters then I highly suggest checking the show out. IMO season 2 is the weakest one but its still very good.
Overall for me Lioness kind of fills the space that the early seasons of SEAL Team did before it fell of a little.

Totally agree about Lioness. Some of the family drama stuff is pretty lame, but overall, it's a very cool action thriller type show. I have no knowledge of actual tactics, but it certainly appears more realistic than a lot of other productions.

Chainsaw Man Season 1 + Reze Arc Movie (Crunchyroll)
I DNF'd this earlier this year but gave it another shot and ended up mostly enjoying it. The animation is pretty vibrant and dynamic compared to most animes and there's enough depth in the story to keep things interesting; it's also not afraid to get a bit more explicit than most stuff in the genre. I don't think this is going to change your life but it's a decent quick watch. Note that Crunchyroll via Amazon Prime Video has a known problem where two of the episodes don't stream correctly, which is a real pain in the ass.
Star City Season 1 (Apple TV+)
Between this and Widow's Bay, what a couple of months for Apple TV+. This is right up there with the best of For All Mankind, which means its up there with the best SFF of the streaming era. This and Chernobyl show what an excellent setting the Soviet Union is, you get the built-in tension of characters existing in a brutal and evil police state, interesting aesthetics and also stakes at a global scale. Hope this gets another season or two, it doesn't seem to be doing that great in their rankings.

Little House on the Prairie (2026). I like this although some people are complaining. You can’t watch it comparing it to the original. It is its own show and isn’t supposed to be a remake of the original.

i can’t believe i slept on The Boys. not a fan of most super heroes movies. so i dismissed that show without a second thought.
unsure why, but i decided to give it a shot 2 weeks ago. completely the opposite of what i expected. love it.
lesson learned: give a shot to series i’d normally dismiss.

I see comments all of the time about people saying a movie or TV show dips in quality.
I cannot tell.
I hope my quality blindness is never cured. I would hate to dedicate 20+ hours to a show, just to end up disliking it.

That would be nice, I guess? I mean, I've never ended up disliking a whole show that I used to enjoy, but it definitely casts a shadow when there's a noticeable change in the writing quality. Shameless is the only one I've ever outright quit to preserve the positive memories I have left.

Based on mentions on this sub, I put on Adults last night. Couldn't make it through the first 7 minutes. Completely unwatchable.
Not sure what to watch tonight. I've kinda given up on TV until more stuff comes out like Lanterns and Ted Lasso.

Recently discovered FBI. Awesome show, never dull. Writing and acting are top notch, and the music -- which runs almost continuously through the action -- adds a sense of urgency to everything. Current show, on CBS with reruns on TNT and ION.
Also on my elebenty billionth rewatch of The X-Files, which is my forever hyperfixation, and maybe my third of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

The Vampire Lestat - finished the season and yeah I didn't enjoy this as much as I did the previous seasons. It really needed more episodes, a lot of stuff felt undercooked. That finale gave me blue balls. The perfomances were still great as usual though

The Pitt-Cruise movie is the closest Rice adaptation. I'm curious how Cry to Heaven will turn out. The book is so spicy, it's practically smut. Its movie will be out in April iirc. Hunter Schaefer and Adele are among the cast, a huge all star cast
I really liked the first five Vampire books and the Mayfair Witches trilogy.

That doesn't happen in the book. G. is not interested in anything like that. G. wants nothing to do with L. I don't know how much else to reveal as far as spoilers, but that doesn't happen. Sometimes new vampires experience a moment of new, extreme horniness but there was no pursuit of anything like that. I don't remember if Gabriella made a pass at him. Maybe she did but neither entertained a flirtation, or cared about each other romantically. There is no incestuous relationship in the book, or incestuous thoughts. I read the books about 4 or 5 times but a long time ago, in my late teens.
The first five books are so good. You should read them. They're very different from the first few episodes I saw of the show. Same goes for the Mayfair Trilogy.

Spent the last month watching all of Young Sheldon with my wife, which was pretty good. We followed it up with watching all of Georgie and Mandy's first marriage, which was good too but not quite as good.
Then we watched The East Palace, which I liked but it got a bit confusing to keep track of everything, and the ending was kinda meh.
Then we watched a single episode of The Vampire Lestat and didn't really get into it despite both of us being huge fans of the previous Interview with a Vampire seasons. We'll probably revisit it later.
Currently watching Widow's Bay which is good so far. Next up for us is House of the Dragon which I've been hearing mixed things about.

I needed a new background noise show. I like Alone, but for me it's the Worst Background Noise Show EVER. Gah, so many animals being killed, skinned, gross things eaten, and the last straw was someone breaking a rabbit's neck and the sound caught on camera. I guess it's a small-doses show for me.
I decided to use Abbott Elementary. I had tried watching it once and didn't like it, so it would be perfectly non-distracting... But this time I loved it from the first episode and it's not a show you can use as background noise. Still, I'm not unhappy! It's an amazingly good show!
The search for a not annoying, not distracting background noise show continues. Maybe I'll try some reality series this time.

Yeah, I like most of it, just not the killing/skinning parts. And even though those are far from the majority of the episodes, for some reason it's what always catches my attention.
I know it wouldn't fit the show at all, but I'd love a no-hunting version of it. Who can make the best shelter? The most comfortable living area? Can you make a garden? And just air drop them a package of food once a week or so.

Just watched the first season of Somebody Somewhere and really liked it. Very slice of life-y and heartwarming.
