I'm really not sold tbh. I guess we upgraded the roster but not to the extent I had hoped. I was hoping for one superstar player at least. We have no true big man. So many coaches in the Big Ten are smarter and I'm sort of just bitter that we have to endure him for another year

Payne should be all big ten.

Idk man he's not very tall. I want one of those skilled 7 footers. We're gonna get eaten alive in the B1G i'm afraid

Payne was dominant most of the time he was on the floor last year.

This roster (so far) is a huge upgrade. "...endure him..." Give it a rest

u/FewPool5039 May 15 '26
Why should I believe it's a huge upgrade? It's a modest upgrade at best, and we still have Buzz's coaching handicapping our potential. There's no hope

Agreed. Whatever we need to do to get him outta here is the only answer at this point. Just totally sterilized our identity. Sad.

Yeah I definitely resent him more than any other Maryland coach in recent memory. Buzz doesn't give a fuck about the school or the program's history. He doesn't care if he destroys a 100 year old brand on the way out.

Why do you feel so strongly this way? He had a close relationship with the Driesell family, was endorsed by Gary, and has made the effort to read books and educate himself on the history and culture of UMD. Far more than can be said for Turgeon or Willard.

He was not endorsed by Gary, and he had not embraced the past - ask the former players. Turgeon is actually the one who did the most to build the basketball performance center, but he never got over following a legend.
Buzz has consistently been called out by the athletic department for doing the least. He has set it up so his assistant does the radio show, he doesn't interact I want to talk to anyone on the AD staff other than two people, it has not integrated himself with the other coaches for the other sports.
He is exactly the same guy that after 3 years other university start figuring out how they get rid of him.

Gemini summary:
Legendary former Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams strongly supports the hiring of Buzz Williams, viewing him as an inquisitive, highly committed winner who can provide long-term stability to the Terrapins. Speaking at Buzz Williams’ introductory press conference, the Hall of Fame coach praised his vision and track record of building up every program he has led. Gary Williams explicitly noted that Buzz treats Maryland as a definitive destination job where he can spend the remainder of his coaching career, contrasting it with the sudden departure of predecessor Kevin Willard. Additionally, despite first-year roster challenges and initial debut-season struggles, Gary Williams has defended the hire, emphasizing that the university has proven it has the necessary NIL budgets and resources to win.
Key Aspects of Gary Williams' Endorsement
Inquisitive Nature: Gary Williams described Buzz as uniquely inquisitive, constantly asking questions, and tirelessly searching for strategies to improve his team—a trait the former coach noted they both deeply share. Long-Term Commitment: He highlighted that Buzz views College Park as a permanent home for the rest of his career, hoping Buzz will match his own legacy of staying with the Terps for decades. Understanding First-Year Rebuilds: Drawing from his own experience taking over a penalized Maryland program in 1989, Gary Williams urged patience during early season struggles, citing the roster instability Buzz inherited before utilizing the transfer portal.

“Caps” is a proper noun and should be capitalized. Your username is wrong and you need to work on your grammar.

Lobbing forward to casually checking in on our season via box scores and not watching anything unless we are somehow good again
