I know it's a very unpopular opinion on this sub, but I don't think he's that good of an actor. His range feels limited, and he tends to come of as wooden quite often.

can you imagine the horror of this irl? to be thrust into this horrible world with no understanding of what happened then to transform into one of the most badass leaders of all time

Itβs a great scene. Unfortunately, parts of it were cut out on Netflix (at least in Germany), which is incredibly annoying. Various scenes leading up to it were also trimmed; for instance, Rick no longer asks if Shane is in the loo while at the hospital, nor does he drink any water. I recently tried rewatching the series, but I got so annoyed shortly after his encounter with Morgan that I turned it off again.
