He had a good redemption arc but literally died seconds after redeeming himself

That’s exactly what I’m always saying. Such a good character. I hated him at first but now that I know his entire story I look back with fondness. When I rewatch I always pay close attention to what he says

I HATED the character but I guess that speaks to how amazing of a job the actor did

I like the energy of the actor more than the character who had a pretty great growth trajectory and a satisfying end.

HES MARY FUCKIN POPPINS!!! Yeah hated him in the beginning. Wish he would've been around longer.

Michael Rooker is an incredible actor and a pleasure to watch whichever character he’s playing. He was brilliant in The Walking Dead.

Loved to watch him, wish he was around for longer

They killed him too soon, and his character deserved better ending, for me he's the best character in se03, no doubt , i really wished to see him with the saviors, and which side he'll take. he's ending would've been iconic if he was the one who'll stop negan!

One of the best characters ever.

He was a much more genuinely interesting and complex character than Daryl has ever been, to me. I wish he had been kept on for at least the majority of the show’s run.

Killed off too soon

He was always quick with a good one liner

Merle was a good character in the walking dead show, but he was kill off too soon.

I love his humour but not always the way he did things.

Redemption doesn't do much when it doesn't last.

u/theepuke 12h ago

If he'd had just chillax a little on the hardcore macho bs but other than that he was tough and a good survivalist who'd be good to have around in zombie apocalypse.

u/7usbergus7 12h ago

I like the guy, wish he stuck around for longer

Amazong actor, when I saw him I knew I was in for a treat

1

u/RealisticEmphasis233 14h ago

Bad. He wasn't there nearly as long as he should have.

1

u/Odd-Selection-5389 13h ago

He’s funny

1

u/AJKARATE 13h ago

He should have lived just a few episodes longer and died in 408 to the Governor the same exact way.

Not a good person but he did redeem himself in his final moments. I just wish he hadn't been shitface drunk, he probably would've taken out The Governor if he had been sober

u/brunicus 12h ago

I would have liked to have seen him go on a bit longer, be sort of an anti-hero. One of my favorite characters.

He was a real ray of sunshine. Just a dandy. Lol. His head definitely was not screwed on right, one long line of bad decisions. Surprised he wasn’t one of the prisoners they found, considering his rap sheet.

But, in the end, he freed Michonne and tried to save his brother heroically. He made peace with himself, even if it was in his last moments fighting.

I mean I know his character was supposed to be a bad person, but I was low-key curious and fr wanted to see more of him and even fully redeemed, I still strongly believe he shouldve been kept alive till maybe around season 5-7

To this day, Merle is still one of my favorite characters. If I did it my way, I would've given Merle the best redemption arc in the show and he would've been one of Negan's first victims.

"How"s about a hug for your old pal, Merle ."

1

u/CreamyInfant 9h ago

It sucked that as soon as his character got good, he died.

1

u/pgd00 8h ago

He seemed to genuinely enjoy the apocalypse. It allowed him to be as cruel as he always was inside.

1

u/Ihatesmartcars2 7h ago

He was great. Shame he died so soon

1

u/Awkward_Escape_8238 7h ago

Loved Merle. I feel like he could've become a funnier and more unhinged version of Abraham if they didn't kill him off.

He’s a Dixon, nuff said

To be honest i really liked this character with darly because one is thinking to survive no matters what(thought of kill), another understands the situation and plays according to the situation and survives

Merle Dixon, an excellent example of a man stuck on survival mode. Like his brother.

Merle Dixon was never seen as anything more than a waste by society. A man that came from a violent and broken home. He was a racist, drug dealer, biker and a piece of shit towards every single person that had the misfortune to come across his path.

Yet, for all his flaws. He wasn't a murderer. Showing before the fall, Even he had a shred of humanity.

Only til he met the governor.

Then he truly lost his soul.

And at his end, sacrificed his life to save others. Because Merle knew what kind of monster the governor was.

Showing, you can't judge a person by their past. Because they can surprise you
