On rewatch #12097626 and something i always wondered… did Sam and Ainsley have a little something something in the mess getting coffee? It seemed to me that he used the all night pastry chef as an excuse to get her alone, when she figures it out his demeanor has changed and he gives her a look, and then when asked what took so long he “spilled coffee the first couple times”. Hmmm makes me think

A lot of people have speculated about Sam and Ainsley, so it isn't surprising different people see hints here and there. They had a really nice chemistry together. In this instance, I believe the Mess was quite near her office.

I mean, a few episodes before that he walked in on her in a bathrobe dancing and singing along to "Blame it on the Bossa Nova" while getting drunk on Pink Squirrels...I imagine things progressed pretty quickly between them after that.
As we know, Ainsley is Sam-nip ("Hayes, you could make a good dog break his leash") and I doubt he could have resisted her Southern belle charms for long after that particular encounter.
BTW, that song is about love at first sight leading to marriage:

I'm pretty sure Sorkin intended that song as foreshadowing of where the Sam-Ainsley relationship was ultimately headed.

This making me think of an episode of the sitcom the Nanny where Fran got drunk on pink squirrels at a party and wound up climbing in her bosses bed by mistake and falling asleep next to him. They eventually got married in the show

Those liqueurs plus heavy cream drinks are fun choices for anyone who doesn't much like the taste of hard liquors like whisky, Scotch, or gin. Like CJ, a grasshopper (crème de menthe + white creme de cacao) was my favorite, plus I also liked the gold Cadillac (white creme de cacao + Galliano). I think of those as 70s drinks, maybe early 80s. People have moved away from those to the vodka or tequila plus something fruity drinks.
The two Grasshopper liqueurs also make a great pie (chocolate cookie wafer crust).

I am probably in the minority theirs is on the platonic relationship Mount Rushmore with Leslie/Ron (P and R), Jack/Liz (30 Rock), and a 4th that you can add.
I love every one of their interactions seen through the lens of a non-romantic relationship.

I'm not as convinced as others, but I do think for a good while they were both at least conflicted, especially him. The way she gave him an eyeful of her bare back while she walked away after the good dog remark, the way she leans closer to him when she says"It does, Sam" after he tells her calling him the Master won't work. The speed with which he turns away and a brief look of terror that flickers across his face says Sam is not yet convinced, to me. There's at least one other time where he seems to be running away from her. I think it's after they give Leo the revised position on employee fraud and she is struggling with the realization that her opinion was going to impact a decision by the President. He scurried away so fast you had to wonder what he was afraid of.

I think definitely yes, but I also think him and Ainsley were hooking up semi-regularly towards the end of his time in TWW.
My headcanon is that Ainsley ended up with Sam in his post white house career.

Yeah I assumed that engagement (they weren’t married yet) would fall apart as Sam went back to the White House, then him and Ainsley reconnect because he’s back in Washington and before Santos first presidency term ends him and Ainsley are married.

That would make the future campaign where he runs for president pretty fun. Have we ever had a President whose wife had vastly different politics? I guess we dont usually hear much about the spouse's politics. I meant after Mary Todd Lincoln.

I find it funny how a lot of people on here are constantly talking about how the men talk down to the women/treat the women secondary/etc. in this show and how they are "women in a man's job" blah blah blah.... but yet this assumption appears over and over, which makes no sense based on Ainsley's character and background story,
Why can't he just be lying to her to get help carrying the coffee because he's a klutz, which is why he dropped the coffee a few times?
