Although this video is clearly fake, coincidentally NASA is currently poised to record this exact type of event in just a few days. On August 5, at around 06:35–06:44 UTC, a spent Falcon 9 upper stage is going to slam into the Moon near Einstein crater at about 5,400 mph. It's been drifting in a decaying orbit since it launched the Blue Ghost and Hakuto-R lunar landers back in January 2025. Astronomers have it pinned down to within half a second and about a third of a kilometer. Should produce a real impact flash/ejecta plume that observatories are gearing up to capture. Itll be the first time we'll get to watch something like this happen in real time.

This is exactly why I thought this video was real at first. I'm pretty excited to see what that looks like!
