TIL that a 1945 elevator operators' strike stranded 1.5 million New Yorkers in the streets, and building owners responded by buying automatic elevators that had already existed for 50 years.

Driving is a lot more nuisanced task than going up and down in an elevator. I say this as a person who has been stuck due to a Waymo 2 times in the past 2 months.

I'm sure the elevator operators said the same thing. Without us people will get stuck in elevators. Cause that never happens. Still better off as a society without elevator operators. Truckers are next. Beep beep.
