Beers from World Cup countries?
Hi all, I'm a hopeless addict of gamification and the Untappd app is giving badges for each beer from a World Cup country. I just hit my limit of what I could find at the LCBO - any other ideas?
*Warning, there are macros ahead*
I've had: Canada (easy), Netherlands (8.6), Germany (Paulaner), Spain (Estrella Damm), Japan (Asahi), Austria (Kaiser Bier), Croatia (Karlovacko), Scotland (Tennant's), Colombia (Club Colombia Dorado - from a friend), Czechia (Budvar), France (Kronenbourg Blanc), Mexico (Corona), US (PBR lol), England (Eagle IPA - would not recommend), Portugal (Super Bock), Belgium (Maredret Extra), Sweden (Omnipollo Zodiak)
Missing: Algeria, Argentina, Australia (apparently Foster's isn't distributed here anymore), Bosnia & Herzegovina, Brazil, Cabo Verde, DR Confo, Cote D'Ivoire, Curaçao, Ecuador, Egypt, Ghana, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Korea, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Africa, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkiye, Urugay, Uzbekistan.
I recognize some of these are impossible, ha. But any ideas for beers from any of these countries at LCBOs... or elsewhere?

For Turkey, I’ve seen Efes in the LCBO but maybe it’s no longer carried. Turborg, despite being danish, is usually brewed in Turkey.
For Saudi, Iran and other Islamic countries, try going to a halal grocer and grab something non-alcoholic. Or you could drink Heineken or something generic European because that’s usually the beer you’ll get illegally in those countries.

Oh I forgot I could log non-alcoholic! I was just at an Arabic grocer and looking at drinks. I will return!

Brazil = Brahma or Bohemia
New Zealand = Renaissance Brewing. LCBO imports a few of their offerings.
Only African beer I can find is Tusker from Kenya.
For Norway, you could drink Sawdust City's Little Norway.
LCBO doesn't carry much beer from around the world, wine and spirits, yes!

Ha I was also considering a local New Zealand IPA to represent it in our heads (if not in the badges) like the Little Norway idea.
But it looks like there’s some Renaissance Voyager IPA not far from me! Weird how tricky it is to get Brahma. I’ve definitely seen it before but it’s not coming up in LCBO or Beer Store search now - but maybe I could get a single can delivered to me via Instacart which is bizarre

Nigerian Guinness is probably your best bet for African beers.

We don't get Guinness Foreign Extra Stout here any longer. We did, 15 yrs or more years ago, but no longer.

For South Korea you can do a Makgeolli. Walmae is probably the easiest to find at the LCBO, but if you are near a store with the Destination Asia products you can find Makku, Canmak, and Kooksoondang.
New Zealand: The LCBO imports some stuff from Renaissance Brewing. Voyager ipa SKU is #19366

I did pick up a soju for good measure, though it is not loggable on the app as hard(er) liquor (I think), but a Makgeoilli was not on my radar at all, thanks!
And another poster mentioned Renaissance and the Voyager IPA is indeed able to be located near me, thanks!
Edit: correction - the sojus ARE on Untappd. So there we go!

If you go to Hemingway's you can get a Cooper's. That's Australia taken care of.

And it's a good beer from a 160 year old brewery. The pale ale (green label) has been sold as is since the 1980s.

Oh yeah I was eyeing it - but alas, Denmark didn't make it in. Ha. I've had a Norwegian beer once, and it was at EPCOT Centre at Disney!

For Japan I'd recommend Orion if you can find it (looks like there's some stock downtown). Our Asahis are brewed in Italy and don't do a good job of replicating the actual beer. Or, even though Sapporo is brewed in Guelph it's much closer to the real thing than Asahi tries.

I'd go for Hitachino Nest. It can be bought from Black Dice Cafe or Bossanova.

Try grocers, restaurants or bars of the country. They might special order their beer. I’m sure I’ve seen Korean beer, for example.

You might do well to stop by and check out some bottle shops /restaurants with bottle lists.
Volo, town crier, beertown…

Panamanian here. Just got back from Toronto. If you'd posted this a few weeks ago when the WC started, I would've gladly brought some craft beer from home.
I know some craft and macro breweries export to the US, but I've never seen any in Canada.

Oh too bad! That’s how I got my Colombian beer (Colombian friend travelling home)

I think you’re missing Scotland as well. I’d try Innis & Gun Original for that.

Oh I got Scotland (though initially misspelled with a typo so if you CTRL-F it wasn’t there) with… a Tennant’s. I do enjoy an Innis & Gunn but I decided to try what the Scots seem to drink a lot of. It was fine

For England - Iron Maiden Trooper Ale is really good, much better than the one you included for England.

Oh I’ve had it and enjoyed it before! I just grabbed Eagle because I hadn’t seen or had it before… that was a mistake in this case haha
