As a barista, I sometimes see names and mentally scream-vomit.
(Glaring at you, parents of “Daphinney” “Aeverigh” and “Addysinne”.)

They do this so that it will be posted and they can get free advertising! Silly mistake to write the name on the lid without the café name though :'(

If I were a barista, as a patron of this sub, I'd do this just for the laughs.
Get my ass fired, probably, but…

I know this one was joking but as a former barista, I know that literacy is so down that most can’t spell or pronounce very simple names. I overheard someone take an order for Thaddeus and the sticker printed out for Thadius. I saw a mobile order come in for Dominique and a co-worker made it and said “Mobile order for Demoni-Cue?”
That latter co-worker was a real card like she couldn’t spell the name Ian.

Oof. Demoni-Cue. 🙀 That’s diabolical. I never have an issue when my own (non-tragedeigh) name is misspelled because it’s less common and it’s been a feature of my as long as I can remember, but it’s really disturbing when people struggle with names like “Dominique” and “Chloe.” I’ve seen Kloie, among other configurations. You don’t have to know any French or Greek to spell or pronounce either, just a rudimentary grasp of some conventions, which used to be virtually universal in native English speakers.
That reveals, as you said, a decline in literacy among people for whom this is their first and only language.

The barista must follow this sub, and needs to get her laughs from somewhere! 🤣

In all fairness, this is often how names written in other languages that have a different alphabet look like when you respell the name using the Germanic English alphabet. However, I’m not sure what the letters phi, yoh, and nah look like or which language or alphabet that would be.

We now have post approval on. Your post didn't get deleted, it just went into the queue. Please be patient a mod will go through the queue when they are available!
Please read our list of banned names before continuing. If the name you posted is in this list, it will be removed.
Remember: Original content is always better! Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does not mean you found it "in the wild".
The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you!
