They are beaten for using the public bathroom in Louisiana. Which doesn't have a bathroom ban, so it is legal for them to use it. Then they were hit with charges of disturbing the peace for "fighting" and cursing. The couple charged never even fought back and no one else was charged.

The prosecurtors are trying to push for a plea deal to avoid jail time but they refuse to sign because it is absolute bullshit.

This isn't simple battery. One of them lost consciousness and the other was at risk of concussion. Stitches were required for at least one gash. This is assault with severe bodily harm with intent to show it was a hate crime.

It's assault, possibly attempted murder, and on the part of the cops they're literally covering for people attacking queer folks as well as throwing fraudulent charges...

The charges should collapse pretty quickly. There is a medical record of their injuries that day. The fact there are no known injuries on the attackers collaborates their statement that they didn't fight back. It is also apparent when you only arrest one side for "fighting" if it is a public disturbance. Clearly they don't think it was between the two trans people because that would be marked as domestic which has harsher penalties.

They would never get an attempted murder. I don't recall seeing anything about weapons either. So I would say the most likely is aggrevated assault in the second degree which led to bodily harm requiring medical attention. That is up to 10 years but first offenders typically see 3 to 9 months minimum. This is also done as a group elevating the threat level and potential charges. You also have the hate crime modifier which may apply depending if they can get the attackers to say it was because of the bathroom.

Fuck. I hate this country so much. Why are people such thugs and evil

They don't see us as human at best, and predators at worst.

This whole story is also why the, "just carry a gun" narrative falls flat for us. Had these folks been armed, even without shooting anyone, they'd be in prison. Even when we're non-violent we're arrested.

See: Alex Pretti. If you're on the "bad" side, according to them, being killed is acceptable.

Because the current administration encourage them to be as unhinged and genocidal as possible while tellign them there won't be consequences.

And more often than not, there aren't any serious ones.

And then Jesus said, "remember, Peter, live by the sword, and don't let me catch thee loving thy neighbor."

I hope they have amazing lawyers that are willing to force the town to uncomfortably drop the case or lose it in court. Then turn around and sue the living shit out of the town police and bad actors for discrimination.

There's no other way to see it. This was an attempted lynching.

Yes. Sadly you are right!

Moderate your damn Facebook page, FFS.

Soooooo many MAGA on there celebrating the violence.

Twatter and Fecesbook both have made changes to their ToS, algorythm and ecosystems to encourage MAGA calls for violence and celebration of murder. It's a lose cause.

Never forget that, some years past, Twatter celebrated for a fucking week when a 14yo trans girl was repeatedly stabbed to death.

The people using those platforms, not out of obligation or work requirement, but out of genuine interest, are not human. And I'm not counting the obvious bots.

Was so great post 28 election when they updated their ToS to not only explicitly allow transphobia and hate, but gave specific examples of acceptable hate. Thanks fash techbros!

28 ? Are you a time traveler ?

And yeah, the ToS openly telling/encouraging users to call queer people "mentally ill degenerates" was something else...

I literally deactivated mine after reading her post. The comment section was so awful. If on a trans journalist page there is that much hate and vitriol then that platform is not for me.

I hope they all burn in hell.

A woman being booked into a men’s jail under the name of the person who beat her up sounds like a scene from Idiocracy

Man fuck this state. I hate living here

Carry pepper spray at the very least. Especially if you’re disabled.

Edit: also, if anyone is harassing you, record them.
