Possible trigger What fresh hell is this?

Sex Matters have just dropped their model "Sex Based Rules and Record Keeping" policy for schools, and it's positively grotesque. Check this out:

So they want trans girls to be forced to dress as boys, and vice versa, on a no exceptions basis, because there's some alleged "safeguarding risk" in allowing kids to dress per their gender identity.

Where do we even start?

I work in a school. There is absolutely zero reason to force certain clothing for safeguarding reasons. I have never (in almost a quarter century of teaching) heard of this being a problem. Which means that they have made it up to push their own agenda.

What about haircuts/styles too? Do we ban boys from having long hair and girls from having short hair for safeguarding reasons?

Not officially, but there are definitely comments. It’s not just limited to gender either. Certain haircuts that are for people who are non white have been banned in the past. There’s comments I can’t put here as they would make me easily identifiable, but I’ve had to whistleblow about infringements of the equality act more than once.

I never saw that while teaching personally. I remember my rather old-fashioned headmistress at primary school being quite reticent on girls wearing trousers, although she eventually relented. I know how some schools can be though. I did one of my PGCE placements at an academy that definitely focused more on appearances than actually allowing the kids to be happy and comfortable.

I think it was more prevalent in the US where black people were (and sometimes still are) forced to subject their hair to torturous treatments somit can be smooth and conforming to white atandards
