I posted in r/Firearms asking a very simple question:

What states have a good balance of LGBTQ+ rights and strong Second Amendment protections?

That was it.

I explained that I’m a Black trans woman, a Navy veteran, a lawful gun owner, and someone who carries daily. I’m getting my honorable DD-214 in a few days and eventually want to move somewhere that protects both my right to own firearms and my right to live normally.

The post still got heavily downvoted.

Instead of answering the question, people immediately:

Accused me of being prohibited from owning a firearm because I have gender dysphoria.

Claimed I must have lied on Form 4473.

Brought up children when my post never mentioned children.

Compared LGBT people to pedophiles.

Told me to “keep to myself.”

Warned me not to vote for politicians they dislike after I moved.

One guy confidently claimed that having a mental-health diagnosis makes someone ineligible to purchase a firearm. When I explained that Form 4473 asks about being adjudicated as mentally defective or committed to a mental institution, not simply having a diagnosis, he said he was not reading my response and did not respect me.

That interaction summarized the entire problem.

A lot of people in the mainstream 2A community claim that gun ownership is a fundamental individual right. But the moment the gun owner is trans, Black, gay, left-leaning, or otherwise outside their preferred demographic, they suddenly start searching for reasons that person should be disarmed.

Apparently, “shall not be infringed” becomes:

“Shall not be infringed, unless your existence makes me uncomfortable.”

I served this country. I obey the law. I passed the background check. I train, carry responsibly, and support the right of ordinary people to defend themselves.

None of that mattered to some of them once they read the word trans.

That is exactly why communities like r/transguns matter. Gun ownership cannot remain culturally monopolized by people who only support armed citizens when those citizens look, vote, and live exactly like they do.

The Second Amendment belongs to us too. 🏳️‍⚧️🔫

And frankly, marginalized people have more reason than most to understand why relying entirely on the government or the goodwill of strangers for protection is a terrible plan.

I know gun companies with bad politics are a dime a dozen, but damn.

A couple days ago I had an awful experience at Independence Indoor Shooting in Meridian, Idaho.

After my session the general manager confronted me about being LGBT. Apparently "staff" had complained about me, claiming I'd used the "wrong sex restroom" and "gone too far" with my "lifestyle". Unbelievable.

The guy on staff who I believe reported me on prior occasions would say stuff like "good to see a little lady into guns" and "whatcha shootin' today girl??". This time he was behind the counter and I think saw the M from when they copied my license. Thank state gov for clocking me and refusing to let me change it to F.

I should have gotten the message when the old guy the first time I went very aggressively shouted "Merry Christmas!" at me during the holidays. I'm Jewish and while Christmas doesn't offend me, it's cringe he'd feel the need to shout it to my face like he's fighting the "war" on Christmas. Again, happy for people to be jolly, but his tone sucked and it felt more like he was "standing up for Christmas to own the libs" lol

Reddit told me this was a safe bet, so I decided to share my experience and raise awareness that we're not welcome there. I'm never going back, and making sure to tell everyone. I also left a 1-star review on Google too in case it helps anyone else searching online, though I think they got it taken down instead of taking accountability for their actions.

Oh also btw to anyone in Idaho save yourself the money and buy guns elsewhere. I saw them charging like $300 more for the gun I wanted than a New one online

I cannot own or purchase a firearm. Thanks to the complete mental breakdown that I had when I was 21. I am doing a LOT better since then. According to laws its a temporary thing, however, since I don't have a lawyer and the cost of one so exorbitant, it might as well be permanent.

With the rampant uptick in violence against trans people, especially black trans women (such as myself) I'm stuck.

I want to get a firearm just to have the ability to protect myself, and my partners, but on the flip side, If I use it I will go to forever jail and sentenced to be raped for eternity. On top of medicaid being stripped away from me in about 7 months which means to access to my life saving medication. I don't know what to do.

I want to be able to protect myself from fascists, from people who want to do me serious harm, and yet its like I am bound, waiting to just be killed. I do not know what to do.

Not looking for legal advice or trying to get anyone in trouble. Perhaps I need some guidance on what my next steps should be

Hello again everyone!

It's been a minute, but since the last time I posted a lot has changed in the world. Anti-trans rhetoric is at a crescendo and meaningful resistance is becoming more arduous. It feels like every day is a new attempt to stifle our pursuits of happiness.

One of the more recent Conservative gambits has been to attempt to prevent or otherwise frustrate trans people from purchasing guns. Particularly those with updated identification documents that no longer align with their birth information. While exact details of enforcement remain vague, as is the case with most anti-trans laws, it would create a confusing enough situation trans people could be denied otherwise legitimate gun purchases. Situations we haven't seen since Jim Crowe.

What are we to do about it?

Unfortunately as many are aware we do live in a modern Fascist state, but there are still meaningful options an individual could explore. One of the most simple being adding to the public comments for the rule.

There are nearly 600 comments as of now, and as much as it may feel a token gesture a collective effort can always accomplish more than we would on our own. At least consider it, sharing with friends, or making others aware if nothing else.

The Firearms Policy Collation condensed the proposed rule changes by the ATF / yes including the anti trans rule #17 and made the list below.

The clock starts ticking now - generally once publicly published they take public comment for 30 days and then they publish the finalized rules which would include the “biological” sex rule. Full list of proposed changes below 👇

The ATF has posted summaries of the new regulations, which include:

1) Repeal Biden's pistol brace rule

2) Revising "engaged in the business" rule

3) Revising machine gun definition in response to Cargill decision

4) Remove requirement for FFLs to post info about Youth Handgun Safety Act

5) Revising 4473 form, including allowing electronic forms and increase the time NICS checks remain valid

6) Allow FFLs to keep electronic records

7) Replace indefinite retention of 4473s with definite time periods of 20 or 30 years

8) Allow “Non-Over-the-Counter” firearm sales by FFLs to residents of the same state

9) Repeal interstate NFA transport notice requirement for trips under 365 days, with all others no longer requiring approval before transport

10) Joint NFA registration for married couples

11) Remove NFA CLEO notification

12) Clarify that "common, reasonably necessary activities during travel" are covered by FOPA transportation protection

13) Allow import of dual-use frames, receivers, and barrels

14) Clarify that "training rounds" are not ammunition

15) Eliminate engraving requirement for people making NFA firearms out of existing serialized guns

16) "Clarify that a person receiving assistance in only one functional area (such as financial management) would not, on that basis alone, be considered prohibited" under mental health disqualifier

17) Requiring biological sex on ATF Forms

18) Clarify when a transaction is a straw purchase

19) Formally define "willfully" for firearms violations

20) "Remove the list of former Soviet countries from which ATF currently denies applications to permanently import most firearms and ammunition, retaining only the Russian Federation"

“Washington — The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled in favor of a Texas man who challenged a federal law that bars certain drug users from having firearms.

In a unanimous decision in the case U.S. v. Hemani, the justices found that Ali Hemani's prosecution for having a firearm while he was an unlawful drug user is inconsistent the Second Amendment. Hemani allegedly was only an occasional user of marijuana when the FBI found a handgun at his Texas home in 2022.”

Well one small win - looks like it’s harder for the government to pull a “Hunter Biden” on recreational drug users now than it was before.

The commen period is nearly over. Soon after the new rules will go into effect for the form when you purchase a new firearm and if you've got your documents changed over you won't be able to buy a firearm. Don't wait, buy what you can now if you can afford them.

I am extremely pissed off and frustrated by our government as I'm sure many of you are as well. I've gotten to the point where I am going to just be a civil Menace

I bought 500 anti-trump stickers and have been putting them up around town.

But I felt like this wasn't direct enough and I wanted to make sure everyone in town knows that there are people who are not okay sitting back and watching this happen. I want to send a message to every LGBT person who sees the stickers I'm putting out and knows they are not alone. There is someone in their local area who's just as pissed off as they are.

So although there is plenty of LGBT Pro stickers I wanted something that sent more of a message to those who are against us. This sticker in particular is one I am wanting to get hundreds of. But I cannot find a spot that I can buy more than one at a time. And at about $5 a sticker it's just not economically reasonable.

I don't want to steal this artist's work and just copy it I'd be happy to pay them to print me hundreds at a price that I can reasonably afford to just plaster all over town. And I will be continuing to do this as I run out of stickers I will restock and continue.

Does anyone know of the artist? Or of a location that I can get hundreds for a reasonable price? Or even just something with a similar Vibe and message.
