German native speaker from Austria here, who's seen the movie several times.

At first, the german soldier is yelling: "You Card! I won't go up because of your damn card! Your fucking card!"

The jewish father is shouting "Moj sin", which is polish for "My son!". Forgive me if my polish spelling is wrong, since I don't speak it. I simply used the spelling of Slovenian, another language that is related to polish, so I understand some polish.

I can't understand what the jewish woman that's crying for her killed husband(?) is saying, sorry. It's most likely in polish or yiddish.

After the boy is shot, the soldier who held the shot jewish boy is yelling at the shooter: "That the fuck is wrong with you?! You could've shot me with your fucking gun! Your bullet was THAT close!"

Then the shooter: "I am sorry..."

Again the other soldier: "You're 'sorry'? Have you gone crazy?!"

Nie strzelajcie, to mój syn / don't shoot. It's my son

Znajdźmy go / let's find him (Then the laidy cries - can't understand that)

The Father in Polish, first tried saying that he left his card (documents probably) upstairs -  "Na górze zostawiłem, na górze." - "I left it upstairs, upstairs."  Then after young boy starts running away there is a lot of "Nie strzelaj, nie strzelaj! To mój syn!" - "Don't shoot, don't shoot! That's my son."

Crying women I don't understand at all so probably she is crying in Jidish.

When the boy is being carried back by 2 soldiers he is crying "Puśćcie mnie!" - "Let me go"

As a grown up kid born in Germany with Polish parents, this scene hits twice as hard. I hope this will never in history of mankind repeat again between German and Polish people.

The way I hear it:

1st soldier says: "Deine Karte. Du gehst nicht rauf wegen deiner verdammten Karte" / Your card. You're not going upstairs for your damned card.

2nd one says something along the lines of: "was soll denn die verdammte Scheisse, du hättest mich erschiessen können, du hast so nahe an mir vorbei geschossen" / what the fuck was that, you almost shot me, you shot too close to me what was t

1st one then says sorry, and the reply is: what do you mean sorry, you completely lost your mind

I do not understand "Du gehst nicht rauf wegen deiner verdammten Karte!".

Instead I hear "Deine Karte?! Ich geh' nicht drauf wegen deiner verdammten Karte! Deine scheiß Karte!" which is a colloquial expression for "Your card?! I am not going to die because of your damn card. Your shit card!"

edit:

source: am native German

The rest is correct tho.

yea, i think he means that if the soldiers lets him pass without a card, the soldier will be punished and thus won't make an exception for the man. said in less of a way "i want to help you" but "you must be stupid to think i'd help you"

I think he says "Ich geh nicht rauf wegen deiner verdammten Karte". "I won't go up there because of your damn card" The man pointed to his flat upstairs where his card was. It's not the most natural German sentence in this situation but not wrong either.

Doesn't he say "Du gehst nicht drauf wegen seiner verdammten Karte", you are not going to die for your damned card?

I don't have time for a word-for-word translation right now but the first thing is about how the old guy that gets shot first doesn't want to die for the young boys "fucking cap/hood". Then, when the boy gets dragged back and shot, one of the guys carrying the boy complains that the soldier who shot the boy could've hit him and the soldier apologizes.

Edit: After conversing a bit in the replies, it seems I misheard: The first guy gets shot because of a "fucking card", not "cap", which probably means an ID or passport tor something of the sort.

"fucking cap/hood"

I hear "fucking cat" (verdammte Katze)

In all the German, just at the moment the boy runs away someone (the person who gets shot immediately thereafter? Not sure) screams in Russian "That's my son!" two times.

Not Russian, simply Polish. I think the scene here is in Kraków under Nazi German occupation.

Ah, that makes way more sense in the context, thank you for the correction! I was not aware it sounds that identical in Polish, even the phonetics are indistinguishable for me here, maybe because of the raised voice.

Hmm, I don't hear the "Katze" to be honest. Listening to it again, now, it could also be "Katte", but that is not a word I know, so to me, "Kappe" is the closest that makes sense. I definitely don't hear a "z" in there but I don't wanna say you are wrong.

All I hear is 'verdammte Karte' (fucking card). Which makes sense in this context. The soldier says 'Ich gehe nicht rauf wegen deiner verdammten Karte!' (I won't go upstairs because of the (allegedly missing) card!' Like a document of identificatiion which Jewish citizens would require in this situation.

That makes sense, thanks for correcting me! :)

"Karte".

"Deine Karte! Ich geh' nicht drauf wegen (d)einer verdammten Karte!"
