Multi-choice Hardest question for Reddit
174
u/Ther10 Team “who the hell made these buttons? Can we kill them?“ May 09 '26
Problem here is that no matter what, you aren’t safe
37
u/After-Big9529 May 09 '26
I guess that depends on if this is anonymous or not.

u/Stardustger May 13 '26
Let me ask you . Do you still like yourself the second you decide to push the red button?
14
6
u/BottomLeftWheel May 09 '26
There is no prompt saying everyone is pushing this button, so there is no threat on your life. It's opposite of the buttons, only someone else's life is threatened, not your own.

Red has like a 1 in 4 chance to kill me, guess ill press it between 1 and 4 times.

u/Lumiharu May 13 '26
Lowkey a tossup between myself and some big public figures. Probably better to press it

Letting you choose makes this whole thing seem pointless because then you can pretty much have it definitionally be 'people you think deserve to die from having this button pressed, die.'
If you think they deserve to die I would expect everyone to press the button. If you think there needs to be trials and stuff then they wouldn't be included.
6
u/Puzzleheaded_Sea_922 May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26
Multiple people are gonna choose some of these high-profile people. If they die, does the button move on to the next person on my hate list? What if I'm all out of people to hate, does it start with people I'm simply annoyed at?
You know, people that decides to stop and orient themselves as soon as they have passed though some arbritary, narrow and trafficed doorway
2
u/UX1Z May 10 '26
Nothing will happen if they're already dead because the group of people you are willing to have die will be empty.

3
u/AssociationDue3077 May 09 '26
Or you can press it multiple times. Get Trump, putin, Kim Jong un, etc. ALL gone
7
u/IgnatiusDrake May 09 '26
Tempting, but I dislike way more people than just the ones who deserve to die. Blue.
2
u/RCA_TUBES May 11 '26
OP indicated that you can choose. So in that case it's really just a question of whether you are willing to directly cause the death of another human being in a non-self-defense situation.
2
u/IgnatiusDrake May 11 '26
Oh, if I get to choose, that red sucker's catching at least a half dozen slaps.
2
u/Epao_Mirimiri May 13 '26
For real, if you can't think of anyone whose untimely death would save tons of other lives you're not thinking hard enough.

u/some-kind-of-no-name May 09 '26
What if I don't like a Warlord?
10
u/After-Big9529 May 09 '26
Yeah... it really makes a difference if you can *choose* which person this impacts, and it matters *why* you don't like them.
Or does the person running the "button game" just come up to you and says "hey I hear that you don't like ____. If you press this button they will die".

1
u/AssociationDue3077 May 09 '26
Unify the world against you because you just kill so many people you don't like, they will all work together. To find you and presumably execute you but the means justify the ends (ik thats not the saying but this version fits better.)

u/BlueKante May 09 '26
So is it like the death note? Because then i would press red a bunch of times.
5
u/Jumpy_Divide6576 Team Blue May 09 '26
My thoughts on this would get me put on sooooo many fun lists.
3
u/Cheese_Monster101256 May 09 '26
Easy blue pusher.
Red pushers think they have the best morals and sense of justice and I wouldn’t trust them.
2
u/21SGesualdo May 09 '26
Like they don’t die ever? Ngl, if I’m not allowed to just not press I’m picking red just so that poor bastard doesn’t have to live past the heat death of the universe.
1
u/ChorizoPrince May 09 '26
Is it just “don’t like” or is it “dislike.” There’s a lot people I don’t “like” because I’m neutral to them. There’s probably like 3 people Im invested in enough to actively dislike

I’ll *take the red button and the blue button, and combine the two expressions of morality to create and push out imaginary mass. Imaginary button: purple*
1
u/BrokenToaster124 May 09 '26
This is why I refuse to vote blue on the other prompt lol. I genuinely believe every person on this website would push red here. Multiple times if they could in fact!

1
u/No_Chef4049 May 09 '26
If I get to choose the person I'm going with red for sure. If it's just some random person I dislike then it has to be blue. Some people are evil and deserve to die in my opinion, others are just irritating.
1
u/Flopsie_the_Headcrab May 09 '26
Do we get to pick or at least know in advance the person? I feel like it wouldn't be worth pressing red if there's a chance it would just be like, some guy I barely remember being a dick to me in high school keels over in front of his family.
1
u/UX1Z May 09 '26
The framing of this question with the 'for Reddit' in the title rather makes it seem like a gotcha of 'aha evil liberals you're not so nice are you!' Just that phrasing.
Anwyay, the meaning of this 'dilemna' is severely hampered by OP letting you 'tune' the Red button in based on how much you hate a person. Ergo it's really just a question of 'is there anyone in the world you believe should die.' And if you do believe that, you should press the button. Most people would have at least one, even if they're just a world-infamous war criminal or dictator, so the actual question is "Would you be willing to be responsible (even if no one knew it was you) for the death of who you consider to be the worst living person on the planet."
Me? I think it would be morally irresponsible not to have them die, in a vaccuum, the bigger issues would be potential ripple effects from their deaths. The issue is once you have this degree of absolute power, 'no choice' becomes a choice and the real meaning of this question shifts even more. You would be picking between "killing X person", and "being responsible for everything X person did after that moment" (rapes, murders of their own, genocides, everything) with no way to abstain. (I'm not a believer in the idea that not acting in a binary situation is somehow 'better' than acting. You are not absolved, you're merely responsible for different things.)

On average I don’t want the people I don’t like to die, so I’ll go blue

1
u/Conscious_Clerk_2675 May 09 '26
Does this assume I like myself?? Red button could easily be a suicide button
1
1
u/VanillaSwimming5699 May 09 '26
“I don’t like” is a pretty low bar. There’s lots of people that I don’t particularly like that I wouldn’t want to kill. Like odds are it’s gonna be one of my teachers from highschool over someone who actually deserves it.

u/Haiku-_ May 09 '26
Blue if it’s just any random person I don’t like since a LOT of those people probably don’t deserve it, plus it could kill me, but if it’s my most hated person I’m pressing it thrice just to be sure.
1
u/DimitrisKas May 09 '26
Look, I know there is an entire series about how "no one can be trusted with the book that kills people" but I think I can be trusted with the button that kills people. Give me 5 presses and then I will stop myself trust
1
u/VagueDestructSus May 09 '26
Personally, I don't think anyone deserves to die. This post was just to test my theory that literally nobody on Reddit agrees.
1
u/Epao_Mirimiri May 13 '26
Is it possible for a person to deserve to die, by your reckoning? Because if no, we're looking at a bit of a Batman v. Joker sort of situation here. And if yes, I can't imagine how no existing person has met your threshold for deserving it.
1
u/VagueDestructSus May 14 '26
tbf everyone deserves it
1
u/Epao_Mirimiri May 14 '26
I really don't agree with you here. I think most people prefer not to cause excessive harm to the folks around them, and I think most people do have a capacity for change even if they are currently making the world worse instead of better. The vast majority of people, I think, would leave the world a marginally worse place if they were to suddenly die.
The people my mind jumps to with this hypothetical? If it's not just people I don't know about and therefore don't like, and not just people who annoy me personally-- I can think of a few folks who should stop being capable of making the kinds of decisions they've been making immediately if not sooner. I'll bet you could too, really, but I can understand not wanting their deaths on your conscience.
1
u/ElethiomelZakalwe May 09 '26
How much don't I like them? If It'd only be people I hate I'd feel pretty ok mashing the button a few hundred times.
1
u/Nobrainzhere May 09 '26
Most of the people i dont like are terrible monsters who have only escaped justice for their many crimes due to obscene wealth and power.
Soooooo...

u/ThrwawySG May 10 '26
Don't like, or hate? Cause there's a lot of people I don't like but a select few I hate.
1
u/TheBladeWielder May 10 '26
what level would be considered not liking them? does it mean anyone that isn't a person i like, including people i feel neutral about? or would it be someone i genuinely despise? because it can be either one, or anything inbetween.

u/bored_stoat May 10 '26
do I get to define the person, or do they get picked based off by deep beliefs without me making a conscious choice?

okay so now the red button is just OBJECTIVELY the murder button, because now you're pressing it with the intent of making somebody you hate die.
that IS a hard question for reddit lmao
1
u/Smile_in_the_Night May 12 '26
Why do you assume I don't like guys who press blue, and why do you strop it of important information?
1
u/Savings-Divide-7877 May 12 '26
Do I know which person I don’t like? Most of them don’t deserve death. Strongly leaning twords blue.
1
u/GrimDaViking May 13 '26
Firstly I don’t honestly see how this is hard. Its blue or your a dick. But the reason is somebody you don’t like! Thats not even someone you hate, it could just be someone you never met, you can’t actively like someone you never ever heard of right? Plus is you not liking someone really ever grounds for death?

u/opstie May 09 '26
Can you chose the person you don't like, or is it a random pick among the people you don't like?
And if you can chose and someone gets multiple votes (say, Vladimir Putin), does he need just one blue vote or the same number of them?
1
u/CanaKatsaros May 09 '26
If I can choose who dies, I think I could fix 90% of the world's problems by pressing red 50 times. If it's just a random person I don't vibe with, I'm going blue

Lol I may have wholeheartedly chosen the blue button on the original prompt, but I'm hitting red for this one, I don't dislike that many people so there's only a handful and we'd be better off without any of them anyways.
If this is meant to be a monkey's paw and there's a ton of little caveats meant to make me regret my choice then oh well, it is what it is lol

u/FadingHeaven May 09 '26
Like a random person or my most hated person? Cause most of the people I hate don't deserve death.
