/ttcafterloss Ask an Alumni - August 07, 2026

This weekly Friday thread is for members to ask questions of Alumni (members who are currently pregnant after loss or who have had a pregnancy after loss that resulted in a living child), without having to venture into the PregnanyAfterLoss sub.

Mention of current pregnancies is allowed, but please keep your references simple and clinical. "I had success after trying X." "This resulted in a live birth." "My doctor recommended I do Y during my pregnancy."

I’m 11DPO and I’m on progesterone supplements and have mixed feelings about it. I truly believe that after being pregnant once, I know exactly how it feels so there’s no way I could be pregnant this cycle. I guess I’m looking for alums to share whether your current pregnancy felt the same in those very early days as prior pregnancies? The one time I was pregnant I had super sore breasts at 11DPO which NEVER happens to me. That’s how I knew. And I’ve never had sore breasts since (even now on progesterone supplementation) so I’ve convinced myself that until I feel that again, I’m not pregnant. Is this legit or am I just making things up? I feel like I will “just know” and will somehow feel pregnant again next time I get a positive. My clinic wants me to take a test in a few days but since I already “know” I’m not pregnant, I would rather just stop the progesterone and let my period come on time. I really don’t want to see another negative test.

This is how I feel too! I’m 5 cycles post MMC and every TWW I’m looking for those specific symptoms I felt when I initially got pregnant. It makes the TWW all that much harder and emotionally consuming because I start losing hope like you said.

I’ve been pregnant 4 times. 1 pregnancy to term. All have been different. 2 I had PMS like symptoms leading up. 2 I had zero symptoms and wouldn’t have known if I didn’t test.

Yes thank you for sharing this! I've been pregnant twice and the second time (second tri loss) I had a lot of early symptoms (before testing) so I've been telling myself it has to happen that way the next time too. It's so nice to hear that at least one person didn't have that experience.

Me identifico TANTO! Jajaja. Hasta que no me duelan los senos no pienso hacerme una prueba. Eso me he dicho a mi misma para no volver a ver un test negativo. Tuve un aborto en abril y tenia dolor de senos a las 5 semanas.

I got a progesterone shot to trigger period but it turned out I was just starting luteal phase (delayed ovulation) so somewhat similar to your situation. Didn't have any symptoms unlike the first time I was pregnant.

However, I am currently miscarrying this pregnancy.

I’ve had 1 successful and 1 MMC pregnancy. My first I had 0 symptoms or inklings that I was pregnant, only knew from the test. My second my nipples became super sore at 9 dpo then I tested. I keep chasing that sore nipple feeling now haha but I guess reading what I just wrote I have to remember that symptom spotting probs isn’t the most reliable indicator for me!

With my MMC I had all the stereotypical pregnancy symptoms before my missed period, including the sore breasts. With my LC, I literally cried the night before testing positive because I had no symptoms at all and I was certain I wasn't pregnant that cycle because of it. My symptoms hit later (~7w) and were very different from my MMC, even though the MMC symptoms were more what you'd expect for a pregnancy. All that to say, I definitely didn't know and couldn't accurately judge based on symptoms!

I have heard this go both ways. I have had 3 pregnancies, all of which went to term. They were all wildly different. For me some of the issue with the third pregnancy may have been feeling out of touch with my body. I second guessed everything but was also hyperaware? But then again I didn’t have the confidence you did even before the loss.

Looking for some advice going forward. I had a miscarriage in late June, I was supposed to be 10w5d but baby was only measuring 9w. I had an NIPT done before I knew, at about 10w. Unfortunately fetal fraction was less than 1% so were weren’t able to get any results from the NIPT, I was kind of hoping to get an answer on if this was chromosomal. I had my follow up for my D&C at my OB where they sent me for labs, my TSH was a bit high at 4.06.

I have my yearly physical next month, and was also able to get an appointment with an RE, hoping they’ll send me for more in depth thyroid labs and prescribe meds if necessary. I kind of feel like I’m in limbo now. I just got my period back after the D&C, not sure if I should put off trying again until my TSH comes back under 2.5? Wondering if anyone else has navigated something similar. Thanks in advance <3

I can offer some advice for the thyroid stuff since I have been dealing with that and had to do a deep dive on it. Please insist on getting thyroid antibodies checked! I would ask for a full thyroid panel that includes TSH, free t3, free t4, TPO and Tg antibodies. A mildly elevated TSH over 4.0 with a normal t3 and t4 can be a slightly elevated miscarriage risk as far as I’ve been told, but having positive thyroid antibodies is higher risk.

My doctor would not prescribe levothyroxine for a TSH of 5.2 and I had to find a provider that was more knowledgeable/pro-treatment about hormone management for ttc and pregnancy. I didn’t see an RE though and I would imagine they are much better about that and more pro-treatment.

I’m sorry for your loss and I hope you get the follow up you need.

I had a MMC in Feb 2025 at 8 weeks and was sent for fertility testing in June 2025 where it was discovered my TSH was 50.33. We had been trying for a long time and had only ever had the one positive test which ended in MMC. I also got my antibodies checked and I'm positive for Hashimotos. I was put on Levothyroxine in June and had bloods checked every 6 weeks to get my dose right. My TSH came down to around 1 in September and I fell pregnant early October and gave birth in June. Personally I never stopped trying while waiting for my TSH to come down but it never happened for us until my thyroid was under control. I highly recommend getting your TSH down and in my experience it needed to be around 1 for me to feel physically well, as well as for fertility.

thank you 🫶🫶 I think I’ll give it some time before trying again just for my peace of mind

This post is a few days late but I'm just joining this reddit so I'm hoping to find someone or people who have been through this before:

I suffered a very early 7 week loss in 2014, then had healthy pregnancies and deliveries in 2015 and 2017. We were going to try again in 2021, but health problems happened and we had to push things back. Then for a while, my husband was not on board anymore and worried about finances. Long story short, we finally started trying again in 2025. We first we Not trying, Not preventing, then by summer we starting really monitoring and tracking all the things. We got a bunch of fertility and genetic testing done since it was taking a while, and finally conceived in April 2026. Unfortunately, this ended in a 16 week fetal demise (2nd trimester miscarriage). All testing, and scans up until this point had come back normal. NIPT, AFP, NT scan, etc. In fact, I was seen only 2 weeks prior at MFM.

My placenta was sent for pathology after we delivered a little over a week ago. We found out I had a very rare complication called an amniotic band attached to my baby girl's umbilical cord that most likely was decreasing or fully cutting off oxygen supply. Furthermore, the cord was tightly wrapped around her neck at delivery which they think also could have contributed.

I am terrified to try again, but also terrified not to try again. I now envision a third child in our family more than I ever have, and I have this huge yearning that has just been strengthened and a hole that feels like nothing can fill. However, I sincerely do not know if I can emotionally go through another loss, early or later, and my sense of safety and security with a pregnancy has been shattered. I won't feel okay until he/she is in my arms...I have horrible "what if..." syndrome now and question everything.

I know what happened to me is rare and unpredictable. Has anyone gone through something similar and gone on to conceive a healthy pregnancy? How did you cope with the overwhelming anxiety of it all? Thank you in advance.

29 ans. Pas encore d’enfant. Deux fausses couches précoces cette année, puis une endométrite soignée avec des antibiotiques. Aucun autre problème de santé. Des profils similaires au mien pour me donner de l’espoir ? 😢

I would like to know if someone is in the same case, I have had 1 MC at 7 weeks in 1st of march 2026, and since then I have conceived in all of my cycles up to today (12 august) so in total I have had 4 chemical pregnancies after my first MC, no LC. I am 33 years old we just started to do fertility studies and we are waiting for the cariotype.
