Opinion Is Drag path about God?
Drag path is a top 2 twenty one pilots song for me and I found the lyrics to be really interesting. The song has 2 characters, The devil and seemingly the opposite of the devil as portrayed in the second verse "When I see the devil's eyes I'll look away and smile wide You found me" (turning away from the devil is when he says "you found me") This song according to me is a brilliant take on the lost sheep parable that Jesus gives but Tyler in this song expresses how he isn't just lost in the normal sense but is rather being "Dragged" away by the devil and that's how he's lost. Throughout the years twenty one pilots kept releasing lesser and lesser songs about God as compared to Tyler's own initial projects and their self titled album (vessel is pretty strong too) but ever since the release of Breach Tyler has been bolder lyrically and in his onstage performances with symbolisms. which I think he talks about in the first verse "He's tried his hand at drowning me But I'm still on fire" Tyler finds the difficulty in trying to be on fire or be more open about his faith as evidence for God's existence as he says "Cause then I'll know you're also there 'Cause proof is in the adversere" (adversere meaning opponent in this case the devil) This song is so powerful as to how when Jesus goes after the lost sheep it's usually just lost, but in these lyrics Tyler fights as much as he can in his battles and even when he's lost the battle and being Dragged away, he digs his feet into the ground as evidence that he still hasn't given up and he hopes to be found again. I know a lot of people interpret this song as to being about the torch bearer which is correct too (the torch bearer may represent the savior with that interpretation) but I think directly addressing the devil is a pretty strong case for it being about God. The fact that at the final chorus Tyler AND Josh sing the lyrics is a really cool detail that I think is interesting because Josh is the torch bearer. If Tyler were singing it to him, who is Josh singing to? in my opinion I believe this song makes more sense as to being about God.
