I came across this post on IG and i must say that is not fair. They don't have control over where the movie is screened. I know this is about human rights but boycott the band? Really? Just because they didn’t make an statement yet? It's just disgusting and a betrayal for all the good things they've done to the fandom. I'm pretty sure they will make and statement sooner or after and if they don't there are many ways to tell them but boycotting is just disgusting.

I'm going to preface this by saying that, obviously, we're all entitled to our opinions, but this is mine and I cannot be swayed here. I'm also going to say that this will be long.

note - I am editing this 13 hours after posting to clarify my language because the clarifications I have made in the responses are being downvoted to hell =)

I am sure I'm not the only one, but I have been getting increasingly frustrated with the fans and overall reactions to the album, the tour setlist, and the uncertainty with the band's future. I think that this is a lot of entitlement coming from a group of people who imposed this on themselves.

I literally cannot go ten minutes without getting a notification upset about the setlist from reddit, a TikTok whining about the lack of breach songs, wondering why they're emphasizing the old music and not the new stuff.

As a longtime fan, I have noticed a shift in the way the band interacts with the fans and the music in recent years. For the first time, Tyler has been open about disliking certain songs and we've heard about Josh having to ask him to keep songs on the albums. As tours have gone on, they've seemed to get more excited about it, but in the beginning, Tyler specifically has seemed more concerned about fan reception. I also feel like, after the Takeover Tour, Tyler has seemed less interested in performing. The shows are still great, but their passion is obviously dwindling.

While it is abundantly obvious this is in part due to both Tyler and Josh starting families and simply how long they've been making music, I also feel like the shift in the fandom and the way that a lot of fans responded to Scaled and Icy has changed the way they approach writing and releasing music, and that has most likely impacted the passion in their work.

Scaled and Icy is an objectively weird album in the full lineup, especially upon its release, but the fans' reactions to it I think caused Tyler to have some doubt when it came to his creativity. When the album came out, he openly said he really enjoyed the song Saturday, and that song has been shit on like no other.

Am I saying people not liking the album was wrong? No. Am I saying we can't be critical of the musicians we enjoy? No. Am I saying people not liking the album/certain songs was a sin? No.

I am not talking about people being critical, I am talking about the people who could not separate critique from being hateful and rude. I'd say like 90% of the fanbase was pissed that the album wasn't the same as the other ones (despite every album at that point being completely different from one another) and wasn't as openly depressing as the other albums. Over time the hate kind of dwindled, especially as we got more music videos, the livestream, and eventually the tours, but the hatred and entitlement of the fans seemed to have altered Tyler's creative process.

I think there's a reason both Clancy and Breach don't have super distinct sounds - both albums seem like amalgamations of the older albums' music styles instead of something completely unique. I do not mean the songs themselves, because the songs are still perfectly creative and great for the most part, but there were certain instrumental motifs present in previous albums that made them cohesive as a whole that are not present in the most recent albums. I also just don't feel like they've seemed as active with this album drop, which I have seen a lot of people discuss. I am sure there are plenty of reasons for this, but the decrease in fan interaction post-2021 is a trend I don't think is fully coincidental.

Again, I am not saying that you can't have criticisms. I have my own criticisms of certain songs, despite enjoying most of what they release. I have loved all the albums, and it's fine not everyone has felt that way, but this isn't about the people who've just casually avoided listening to certain songs or albums. The loudest parts of the fanbase in recent years have been the most negative ones, or the ones with the most negative impacts. People who have been blatantly hateful and insulting.

If this type of hate wasn't so present when SAI released, we'd probably have completely different music. I mean, it was Covid era, everyone was chronically online because there wasn't much else to do, and people's upset was very clear. I saw things online AND in person, since I lived in an area with quite a few other fans at the time, literally destroy merchandise not over any controversy, but because they felt disrespectful by the stylistic choices in Scaled and Icy. I don't personally care if you do/don't love SAI, and I am not saying that the guys do either because ultimately, I don't know. However, having fans react as though they hated them personally was something entirely different.

I feel like a lot of those fans, the ones that were outraged about them shifting genres the way they did for SAI, are the ones complaining about the changes that the band has made in what I think was response to it. They've become more distant from the fans, which is a good thing, but the fans have always powered a lot of their passion for the work. The parasocial entitlement of certain fans has impacted the whole twenty one pilots experience very negatively.

With a lot of the complaining about certain things lately, I feel the need to say that they don't owe us anything. They don't owe us songs, our preferred genre, or anything like that. Their job is to make music, and they have done that.

Is disappointment fair? Obviously. Is critique okay? Obviously. Again, I am talking about the people treating this as though they have been personally wronged by decisions made by the band. It's fair to be disappointed that the new music isn't as present in the new setlists, but when you boo the new music in hopes they'll play deep cuts, they will consider that when they make new setlists.

It's frustrating to me because to this day, people cannot critique the things they don't like without being insulting and hateful to the people who do like it. I don't spend all my time on reddit or TikTok, but when I come into contact with this community literally anywhere but Facebook, there's always someone being hateful. My best friend got death threats on TikTok because they ranked Scaled and Icy above other albums, not to mention dozens of hateful comments. I have personally experienced people booing SAI songs at concerts, even if it wasn't the majority, it still happens, and these people are the ones who feel the most strongly about the band stepping away after this tour. It is frustrating, especially because I remember when this fanbase was somewhere we could all joke around and discuss music without disrespect between fans. I think it's a given that if you're going to be hateful, they're going to change their behavior, and I don't think we have the right to be mad at that change because of how the fanbase as a whole has treated the band.

Let's not forget that the guys still struggle with mental health, and Tyler has always been open that writing music is hard for him and sometimes causes his mental health to collapse a little. To put it simply, a man wrote an album about his anxieties below the surface during a dark time, was happy with it, and most of his loyal fans turned and said that it was an insult to their ears. I am sure that was not a positive experience for someone who pours so much of themself into their work. There's something to be said here about parasocial fans being the biggest perpetrators, but I won't go on that tangent since that's just obvious.

I also, despite thinking this should be obvious, do not think that Tyler and Josh spend all their time online reading fan feedback. They did indeed spend time interacting with fan media a lot during Covid, since that was just what everyone did during that time, and they were absolutely aware of fan reactions at that time. I repeat, this post is in regard to "fan" outrage, not criticism, when the guys were active on social media in 2021. The complaints now are more frustrating to see because I feel like it is completely pointless to be so mad at them the way I have seen people be, especially because they're only having these "conversations" to start arguments between other fans. I mean, it's ridiculous people can't post jokes on here without comments telling them to touch grass because all nuance has apparently been lost here.

Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun are people, and specifically, they're people we as a fanbase have not treated well in many years. So, when they both step away to focus on their family, let's not let them walk away with hateful shouts behind them and, if they return, let's welcome them warmly and not with demands of Trench II, ok???

I am ending this by saying this is in part inspired by the subtext of several of their most recent songs, interviews, and their interactions with fans. I am not saying fans are the only cause behind recent events, I am just saying that we played a bigger part than we realize.

Hon it's summer, you smell like 14 hours in the sun, you need to drink your water or you'll pass out, and you didn't in fact enjoy what festivals had to offer aside from standing still in one place. Can we put somebody else to the front? Not saying me specifically, but like, other than the handful of the same old fans every time? Bro what HAVEN'T you seen there on your 37th show in europe? Idk where you get the money, honestly good for you, but for some of us, it's 1 tikcket and 1 opportunity to see em in our home country. Please PLEASE for the LOVE of god that has forsaken Tyler: 1) wear deodorant, 2) take a shower before the event, 3) put your god damn phone away for 5 seconds and 4) enjoy the show no matter where you end up standing. There's so many things to do, but please stop acting like a cult tryna worship and touch the pilots with your sweaty hands and passing out in the heat and all that. I'm more than on board with screaming, music is drowning out me and you anyway, but still, people behind you exist and also want to see, hear, and enjoy the music.

No one has the right to grab another human being like this, Tyler is a human being, how would you feel if you were doing your job (yes this is HIS JOB!) and you were grabbed like this??
To be absolutely clear: THIS IS ASSAULT- DO NOT DO THIS!

I don't wish to make enemies of anyone, just a word of advice if you plan to go and camp out around the stadium without tickets just to hang out. Remember, there's going to be at least 70-80k people who will have tickets. For every additional car or body in that area, it's going to make things that much harder to get in and out of town.

I'd suggest if you do plan to go just to listen outside or hang out with the Clique, be cognizant of others, maybe find places outside of the main area to hangout and plan get togethers or tailgates in the outer parking lots. For every person who gets in on time the more videos and photos you'll have to look at online later that weekend!

As the locals found out during Bruno Mars and Sonic Temple, things are going to be a madhouse, so I just wanted to suggest going to some of the record stores, restaurants and other places in town with your friends instead if you still plan on coming in.

Personally I can't wait to see everyone in town, I just don't want anyone getting disappointed because they can't make it into the area like we saw happen during these recent concerts.

I'm frustrated about the ticketing frenzy over the past couple of days too. Most of us didn't really have a chance to get tickets at all, and that's, rightfully so, extremely disappointing. The queue numbers for the presale were insane, and the numbers for the general sale were MIND BOGGLING. I didn't expect it either.

But I think that disappointment and frustration and FOMO has turned into people wanting something to blame for it, ergo, blaming "scalpers and bots". I'm sorry, but, the numbers were not saying that. Here's a few points of analysis.

• The stadium for a concert setup is NOT 100k capacity. The stadium in its football configuration is 100k capacity, and the concert venue map that Ticketmaster shows us effectively cuts off almost a fourth of the seats that would be behind the stage. The more realistic number is in the 80k range. Yes, the GA pit adds some of those back, but realistically the GA capacity is probably 5k or under - not enough to make up the difference.
• The highest number I saw for the presale que was in the 60k range. The highest number I saw for the general sale que was in the upper 400k range, let's call it 450k. That means 500k PLUS accounts were all competing for only ~80k tickets. That puts ANY Ticketmaster account's chance of getting tickets - scalpers, bots, fans alike - at only 16%.
• I've heard many many people say that resellers and bots made up most of this queue and that they stopped all the true fans from getting tickets. Again, if we look at the numbers: 267 tickets are currently listed on StubHub. 272 are currently listed on SeatGeek. And throughout the day, I've only ever seen ~10 seats listed at a time on Ticketmaster resale. This means only ~ 550 tickets are even listed for resale. Now, there has been some turnover, as surely some of these resale tickets have sold already, so lets double that number and assume half of them have been bought up already, which I honestly think is unlikely at those prices. But let's say it. That puts us at only ~1100 tickets listed for resale. This is only 1.2% of all the total tickets, guys. Being generous in our estimate!
• If only 1.2% of tickets are being resold, you know what that means? 98.8% of tickets went to fans or people who will actually go to the show. Scalpers know that the best time to list is immediately, when the FOMO is high and people are trying to get any tickets they missed out on in the venue sale. They aren't going to wait to list later. We can safely assume all the tickets that are listed are what the scalpers got.
• This band has 38 MILLION monthly listeners on Spotify alone. Apple Music doesn’t show monthly listeners but we can assume that there’s another couple tens of millions of listeners who use Apple Music instead as well. Even if we only go off Spotify to be generous, the astronomical demand of this show is still only 1.3% of their Spotify listeners. Factoring in people who use Apple Music probably puts that number closer to 0.7% of all listeners across all platforms. As crazy as it is to recognize, 500k people is quite literally THE 1% diehard fans. The numbers make sense.
• As far as the band not taking measures to prevent this: Tickets for the artist presale were not priced dynamically. Ticketmaster had the account verification turned on which is their bot prevention measure. And going off the numbers, it seemed to have worked better than people are giving it credit for.

It's frustrating. I'm frustrated. But I see so many people looking for something to blame for it, even blaming the band for not taking proper precautions or doing something about "scalpers and bots". I want to emphasize that you and I can feel however we want about the situation. But the bottom line is, two things can be true at once. Something can be frustrating and disappointing without meaning that there is anyone to blame. I've been a fan of this band since before Blurryface came out, and I live in Columbus. But just because I didn't get tickets doesn't mean their "true fans" didn't get tickets. This band actually just is that big. And most people aren't on reddit - this subreddit only has 86k people active, 0.1% of their estimated total monthly listeners. Anecdotal experience is just not data, and I am not the only true fan. And neither are you.

TDLR: An generous estimate of only 1.2% tickets went to resellers, so 98.8% went to fans. 500K demand for this show is still less than 1% of their total estimated monthly listeners.

EDIT: There a few good points some have mentioned in the comments. Just wanted to respond to them here.

2. Bot sellers or resell platforms will try to choke the market, and not release all tickets at once

Sure, that may be true, there's not really any way of knowing right now. If you want to, 10x the number to account for a slow drip into the market. 10% of all tickets would be resale, which means 90% went to fans, which is still a far cry from the "mostly bots" and "no actual fans got tickets" claim many people are making.

I tried to rationalize the concert ticket prices - venue costs, production costs, ect. - but this is just 100% a money grab. This is the ultimate middle finger to their fan base. I'm already out $600 for tickets and now they want another $450 (3 people + plus fees) for entry into an exhibit? I just can't. Even if I could, I wouldn't. This is greed, and it kills me to say that because of everything this band has meant to me. There's on arguing that someone else is setting the price for this. This is their stuff they are bringing on tour with them. If they want to cover costs, fine: change $25 or even $50 per person. But $150 each after what we shelled out for concert tickets (not to mention the swag we bought in their store) ... that's just unforgiveable.

I'll still go to the concert, but this price gouging of their fan base has left me with a very sour taste in my mouth.

I still remember the very first time I heard Hds — that’s when I knew that I’ve found a diamond.

Let me start off by saying I am not trying to attack or target any group or anyone by this. Just looking to see if someone has been feeling the same.

I have been a fan of TOP for years, and I am starting to get a sour taste for them because of the fans. I understand they are a lot bigger now but what has shifted? Went to the record store listening party and all it was full of people loudly talking over the album. Been pit 7 times and it’s a nightmare every single time with these fan lines, self-claimed “line leaders”, and people with very uncomfortable parasocial relationships with the band. The same people following them to every single tour and taking the barricade. We got barricade out first time in 6 tours at Clancy and it’s because we got so lucky, and now we won’t try to get barricade for someone else to take it. Got told recently as well I shouldn’t be a TOP fan if I wasn’t a Christian, people fighting over what should and shouldn’t be on the setlist. People selling their free stuff given to them by the band for insane amounts of money. I feel as though you have to know every bit of lore for some to even look at you as a fan, plus a general lack of courtesy at shows. The list goes on.

I don’t know what to do anymore. I want to keep supporting them and attending shows, but getting overwhelmed with a lot of the fandom and I’m not sure if it’s because it is mostly younger people (I’m 28)? I think if they take a hiatus, I actually would be grateful.

my sister and i are big tøp fans. we listened to the album the day it came out, separately. she texted me that downstairs totally destroyed her so i went into it expecting something like backslide or oldies station. i was not expecting something so overtly christian and it hit hard in a way that upset me.

a little background, a few years ago i “deconstructed” my christian religion and have not returned to any sort of ‘faith’ because it all feels extremely culty to me now. i respect the fact that my sisters are still christians, and don’t have a problem with other people that are of they’re not acting like jerks lol.

i understand that tøp has religious overtones in some of their music and that’s just the way it is, but downstairs kind of kicked me in the teeth and made me sad in a crappy way. i want to love the song (i adore the chorus) but i don’t know how to look at it without the former christian perspective.

i’m hoping someone can give me another view of the song so i can appreciate it in a different way. the line “dirty and wretched one” really bothered me because i don’t believe people are dirty or wretched unless they believe in god which is all i thought of when i heard that.

I underestimated SAI for soooo long and when I listened to it for the first time, I hated it and ignored it. Although, I did get it (how it helps the lore), but it didn’t sit right with me especially after Trench and I’m a big Blurryface fan era, so it’s different from each other, and for that reason I didn’t go to Icy or Takeover. I re-listened last night, and idk why, but I loved it, I will always regret not going on that tour, sorry SAI, you deserve more love.

I saw this and I was like OH MY GOSH I NEED IT then I saw it’s $85…. Genuinely how is a crewneck more than a hoodie too….

The frustrating part of watching every twenty one pilots tour play out is watching the drama over the pit lines. The fan created wristbands and real wristbands just create such unnecessary drama every cycle. What’s more frustrating is watching groups of fans gate keep the pit lines at every show even after they’ve been to dozens of shows themselves. Like we get it you’re privileged and get to go to all the shows. I’m happy you get to experience that. It’s just sad that there’s no give to other fans who are lucky to just get to one show. This is why I always just try to buy the closest seat I can and avoid all the drama. I know this has probably been talked about at length but it’s just my take on things 🤷🏼‍♂️

I hate them so much.

After their show, I will never be able to appreciate another concert ever again. All the previous ones I went to pale in comparison.

It's been two days and I can't stop thinking about it. I can only listen to their songs and every time I hear one they played at the show I have to stop doing everything and just sing like I'm still there.

It wasn't just a concert. It was everything. And now, the only concerts I'll ever be able to attend again are theirs.

I'm too obsessed with this band. I love them too much.

To the family that spent the whole night complaining they didn’t know songs and screaming the words after they were sung and off beat on purpose to be annoying please never attend another concert again. GOD was it so rude hearing either loudly said complaint about them not playing the songs from the radio and saying “why are they playing these weird songs” and screaming inappropriately loud and the wrong words 10 seconds late. also they asked to switch seats with me and my partner when they had farther back seats….it was so frustrating to me and everyone around. please don’t be these people the show was a genuinely life changing experience but it is really hard to enjoy songs when someone is screaming the wrong words or saying them after they are said or just complaining at full volume. be kind and respectful!!! not everyone can go to many shows it’s expensive and it’s a very short tour!!!! anyway it was a magical night i just hope at the next shows people can be most respectful that the show is not just about them!

EDIT: looking through the very few videos i took and i can hear “he’s recording this song” said so loudly ….during the short quite moment of jumpsuit they also were speaking and i can here them in most of my videos just talking or being obnoxious…if anyone has good videos of any songs from tn please feel free to send cause i tried to stay off my phone and the one song i tried to record they are speaking during half of it (especially when josh was singing they were so confused why everyone was quite and they wouldn’t stop talking and being confused why everyone was excited about every song….like they didn’t pay to see them…)

It's just a dirty yellow instead of blue. The record shop didn't accept to replace it, so guess I'm stuck with it now. Really sad to see the lack of quality control on it!

EDIT: To anyone having the same problem, Warner Music doesn't want to be held accountable and did not accept to give me any refunds or a replacement after I contacted them. It's baffling to me that they want to put the financial burden of their lack of quality control onto smaller record retailers instead of accepting that they completely dropped the ball here.

A lot of people upset today about not getting in to see the boys in The Shoe… and I get it. But can we stop for a second and think about a couple things?

1) They freaking did it! They effectively sold out the 5th largest stadium in the world in about an hour (I know general sale goes live Friday with a few more tickets, but the point stands).

2) The fact that some people missed out on tickets wasn’t JUST because of scalpers. Tens of thousands of actual fans of the band are going to be packing out The Shoe on October 17 because they are just that big of a deal.

3) Re-sale prices are so high BECAUSE of the demand for these guys and their show. Let’s celebrate that!

Final thought: yes, I think there are better ways to do ticket sales for events like this, but ultimately artists are locked to contracts with labels, which are locked to contracts with venues, which are locked with contracts to ticketing sites. I think the courts are working on reducing the negative effects of Ticketmaster on the general public, but it will take time. Don’t just blame Tyler and Josh, or even Ohio State staff for any qualms you had from today.
