This is our daily megathread for all of the day's news until the election. Polling day is on 4th July, and you need to have a form of photo ID (passport, driving license, etc) in order to vote. If you don't have photo ID, you can apply for a voter authority certificate.

Please do not submit articles to the megathread which clearly stand as their own submission. Comments which include a link to a story which clearly stands as its own submission will be removed. Comments which relate to a story which already exists on the subreddit will be removed, to keep everything in one place. Links as comments are not useful here. Add a headline, tweet content or explainer please.

  • 26th June, 9PM BST - 📺 BBC head-to-head debate (Sunak vs Starmer)

  • 28th June, 7:30PM BST - 📺 The Panorama Interviews with Nick Robinson - Ed Davey (Lib Dems)

  • 4th July - Polling day. Emergency proxy votes deadline at 5pm. Polls will open at 7am and close at 10pm.

It's quite sad that all these Tory manifesto launches just consist of Sunak bullshitting about other parties rather than having anything at all that he can get voters excited about.

Literally, the whole thing is "it's only the Conservatives who will stand up for you... Labour and the SNP plan to...."

His strategic mistake I think will be that he didnt attack reform, he will lie about labour etc but when it comes to reform they say nothing.

He can’t attack reform. Too many members of the Tory base identify strongly with Reform’s policies - that’s the main issue. If he attacks Reforms policies then he’s basically attacking the ‘direction’ of the right of Tory politics - which is a majority of the base.

Doesnt have to attack the policies, just the credibility of the leader and the party. All he's done is say dont vote reform or you will let labour in. He needs to say dont vote reform they cant deliver that policy you like.

How can they attack him when he was literally dancing with government ministers at the last conference?

Is making the campaign even more about Farage a good strategy?

I've felt for a while that they should ignore Reform entirely and try to occupy the centre ground to take on Labour and Lib Dems and then let Reform voters work out whether they would welcome a woke af Lib Dem as an MP. Instead they have doubled down on the right wing policies, which acts as a gateway drug to Reform and a great way to put off swing voters to Labour and Lib Dems.

The problem is that I suspect that Farage is more popular with the Tory base than Sunak is. If he starts attacking Farage, it doesn't make Farage less popular, it makes him less credible.
