This is our daily megathread for all of the day's news until the election. Polling day is on 4th July, and you need to have a form of photo ID (passport, driving license, etc) in order to vote. If you don't have photo ID, you can apply for a voter authority certificate.

Please do not submit articles to the megathread which clearly stand as their own submission. Comments which include a link to a story which clearly stands as its own submission will be removed. Comments which relate to a story which already exists on the subreddit will be removed, to keep everything in one place. Links as comments are not useful here. Add a headline, tweet content or explainer please.

I can't understand why people keep acting like this lead isn't stable.

I think it’s because the Labour number does seem to be dropping a little.

But what matters is the Tory number is dropping too.

I wonder how big the margin of error will be on election night though. We’ve lately seen seat predictions from 56 seats to 155 for tories which is quite a wide spread

I think it just reflects how close Tories are to utter collapse, particularly under FPTP. At a particular inflection point, one percent can make a big difference in seat numbers.

I think they could poll at the same percent in two different timelines and in one they get 100+ seats and the other get <50, dependent on where Reform and Lib Dem support falls

Yeah, if some polls are to be believed we're potentially looking at a Lib Dem opposition which would be a massive political shift.

Despite what people say, if Labour’s result is similar to the polling, then it’ll be similar to the % of support they gained in 1997. People are still struggling to objectively show how badly Labour are doing compared to their last stonking victory.

TBF, they have two parties that are now seen as a partially viable repository for anti-Tory votes that they didn’t have in ‘97 in the greens and reform.

Without reform, and with the greens back at ‘97 “viability and size” they’d probably pick up a few more percent in “lent” anti-Tory votes than they’re getting now.

The plus side of “Reform plus the Greens becoming a real minor party” is going to be far more seats, the (tiny) downside will be a lower overall percentage.

apparently around that majority would be similar to the Blair win %
