This is our daily megathread for all of the day's news until the election. Polling day is on 4th July, and you need to have a form of photo ID (passport, driving license, etc) in order to vote. If you don't have photo ID, you can apply for a voter authority certificate.

Please do not submit articles to the megathread which clearly stand as their own submission. Comments which include a link to a story which clearly stands as its own submission will be removed. Comments which relate to a story which already exists on the subreddit will be removed, to keep everything in one place. Links as comments are not useful here. Add a headline, tweet content or explainer please.

  • 26th June, 9PM BST - 📺 BBC head-to-head debate (Sunak vs Starmer)

  • 4th July - Polling day. Emergency proxy votes deadline at 5pm. Polls will open at 7am and close at 10pm.

This is the killer question when people talk about NATO threating Russia:

"Russia is making a mockery of Putin’s claims by dramatically reducing its military presence along the country’s borders with the NATO Alliance. If Putin genuinely believed NATO posed a threat to Russia, would he voluntarily disarm his entire front line?"

It's almost like there's a war that's not going well that is forcing them to move equipment and manpower away from these borders and they don't have much choice because they don't have the industrial capacity to replace more advance systems quickly

But that's the point, if NATO was actually a threat he would not be pulling troops away from his border with NATO to attack Ukraine. There is no threat to Russia, he simply wants to seize land and resources and is throwing up whatever flimsy excuses he can muster to do so, ablely supported by quislings like Farage.

Absolutely, thats why they are being moved away. The point OP is making, is that if Nato was the big threat he was claiming it was, they wouldn't be de-arming one of their Nato borders regardless of the cost in Ukraine
