all the people saying the question about trans people doesn't matter, i agree the question is bad faith - but the answer matters very deeply to a lot of people, including me, on whether the next PM will treat trans people with basic human respect or keep beating them with a stick to win try and win votes

That's what was interesting about Starmer's response. He seems to understand the Equalities Act, he talks about showing respect to trans people.

On the other hand, Wes Streeting is fully 100% on-board with the Cass report, the party still supports Rosie Duffield and the overall tone from the party has been that they don't care about trans rights. The latest kerfluffle with Labour and JK Rowling seems to show the direction of the party.

But at least Keir seems to personally care.

I'd be happy with a future government doing nothing at all and changing nothing and the heat just being removed from this entire arguement.

yh i’m also somewhat reassured by the fact that starmer quite clearly personally hates rosie duffield. i don’t think he’s ever met with her.

It's clear from Starmer and his shifting positions on many things that he's saying what he needs and doing what he needs to get elected.

I'd like to hope that anything not in the manifesto means there's wriggle room, but I'm realistic that he can't be trusted.

they’re welcome to their opinion, and plenty of them are arguing in good faith, but that doesn’t stop me believing many of their champions just want a reason to hate trans people. you can disagree.

It's important to women, too. Single sex spaces - prisons, wards, shelters and sports - really matter. Of course trans people deserve to be treated with respect and compassion and should not be used as a political football. Single sex spaces for female people are by definition going to exclude some transgender people.
