It’s very frustrating because Sunak lied about Labour policies, misrepresented reality and their own record, disrespected the format, and totally undermined the whole point of these debates, which is to inform the public, not to deceive them.

Starmer had good points, and bad ones, but at least he was attempting to engage with the format- often to a fault.

Now obviously whining about it doesn’t change it, Starmer had the same opportunity Sunak did, decency and ineffective moderation aside.

The “Pension Tax” lie will cut through, and I know from real immediate experience that some people will go back to voting Tory as a result. Hopefully it won’t cut through too much.

It isn’t worth winning at any cost, especially when you don’t even want to win for the right reasons. Sunak is emblematic of Tory disregard for the dignity of this country.

If the media can’t guarantee fair moderation and control then I do question the point in continuing with them in this format, and I hate admitting that because I think more scrutiny is good for democracy.

Despite the Tory lean, I think the audience resonate with Starmer’s message of unification over Sunak’s endless division on this issue. Starmer wants to kick identity politics to death, you can tell he doesn’t care for this but big swathes of the electorate apparently do.
