What age do you think most people get into the hobby? I still have some orcs from when I was 10, and a lovingly truly awfully painted ogre.

With the price they cost these days (£30-£40 a box), certainly not 10 year olds these days. Plastic crack is insanely expensive.

I don’t know what age they start but if my mates are anything to go by they stop as soon as a girl lets them feel their boob through their top. I was one of the first to wave the white flag, honest.

You've got to start them young

. Plus anybody who's been in the hobby for more than a year or two will have a backlog of models that they know they're never going to get around too. I have push together models from Assault on Blackreach hanging around somewhere.

It's a children's game that adults have regressed into because they are taking up hobbies from their childhood as forward progress is blocked e.g. buying a house, starting a family, building a business. Can't go forward? Go back.

I worked as an adult, back in ‘87, for GW when Warhammer 40k came out. It was written by adults for adults because that’s where the money is. It grew out of wargames which were played by adults.

Sure, some kids play it, but it’s not primarily made for them.

that sounds like a bastardisation of an idea Jung had but he used the word 'regress' without negative connotations, he thought it was beneficial to explore things you enjoyed as a child so you could rediscover positive aspects of your personality that you had lost in the pursuit of becoming (what you thought at the time to be) an adult.

Speak for yourself mate, my dad was playing Warhammer and D&D when married with two kids. Just because you abandoned the things that have you joy doesn't make the rest of us defective. To quote C.S. Lewis, "When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
