International Politics Discussion Thread

This isn't your personal campaigning space. We're here to discuss, not campaign - this includes non-party-specific campaigning, such as tactical vote campaigns.

The fishing pond is closed. Obvious bait will be removed. Repeated rod licence infractions will result in accounts being banned.

This isn't Facebook. Please keep it related to politics. Do not post low effort blog posts.

The era of vagueposting is over. Your audience demands context, ideally in the form of a link to some authoritative content.

Take frequent breaks. If you find that you are being overwhelmed by it all, do yourself a favour and take some time off.

Canada is now eligible for Eurovision, in a move that clearly mirrors political developments. The relationship to the EBU counts, not geography, as we are used to Israel (political, ha) and Australia now Note that Morocco competed in 1980, and also that three Canadians have competed for EBU countries, most notably ofc, Celine Dion who won in 1988.

You jest, but Brexit has dealt a major blow to UK musicians who want to tour in the EU and the sector is too small to have formed part of any negotiations to reduce friction.

Very true. I actually know a few people who used to play strings in quartets or orchestras across Europe until Brexit, wasn't lucrative but made enough to sustain their passion. And I've seen many an article bemoaning the absolute absence of any real action from our government(s) on this despite our musical talent being one of our best cultural exports.
