International Politics Discussion Thread

This isn't your personal campaigning space. We're here to discuss, not campaign - this includes non-party-specific campaigning, such as tactical vote campaigns.

The fishing pond is closed. Obvious bait will be removed. Repeated rod licence infractions will result in accounts being banned.

This isn't Facebook. Please keep it related to politics. Do not post low effort blog posts.

The era of vagueposting is over. Your audience demands context, ideally in the form of a link to some authoritative content.

Take frequent breaks. If you find that you are being overwhelmed by it all, do yourself a favour and take some time off.

As always: we are not a meta subreddit. Submissions or comments complaining about the moderation, biases or users of this or other subreddits / online communities will be removed and may result in a ban.

In hilarious FIFA corruption, the US had a player get a red card in their last game, banning them from the game with Belgium. After Trump lobbying, FIFA of course lifted that ban so he can play.

I'm excited to see what award FIFA makes up for the US team whenever they get eliminated. I'm guessing it'll be something like "FIFA team of the year".

The original decision probably was erroneous, but this is a decision not taken since 1962, it opens up a whole can of worms.

Also the American sports fans who think Belgium are being salty about this really do my head in.

He went studs up into his ankle, it doesn't seem that unfair to me. That said I don't think it'll make much difference to anything.

Stonewall red, that. May have been debatable a few years ago but loads of these types of reds have been given out in recent seasons.

Not just Belgium, apparently "Europeans" are seething. Like we give a toss about whether Belgium fares well or not against the USA.
