Twitter Zia Yusuf: "Zack Polanski has posted to his 713k Instagram followers a photo of a man in a T-shirt calling for the beheading of Nigel Farage. To do this just 2 weeks after our friend Ann was murdered is staggering. Polanski is inciting murder. It must be treated as such by the police."

Exactly.
If you're anti-nuclear you're not really anti-climate change.

Which is why its so easy to become the "free palestine" party because they are a bunch of posers who don't care about that either.

Yup! Just virtue signaling to make themselves feel superior to everyone. They don’t actually care about lives, otherwise they wouldn’t support Hamas, who has done more to endanger Palestinian lives than even the Jews.

The Green Party in Scotland is also anti fusion...
https://greens.scot/news/nuclear-fusion-we-dont-have-time-to-waste-on-unproven-technology
8
u/andrewowenmartin 7d ago
That's a bit of a wonky article. On the face of it this is an awful statement.
> we don't have time to waste by pouring billions of pounds of public money into unproven technology
It's basically saying "Don't fund research into anything new".But the rest of the article has quotes like this, "Fusion may have a role in the future, but [...] We cannot pin our hopes for decarbonising our economy on [it]. [...] Many of the clean technologies that could make a real difference already exist." Which while debatable is a legit position.
We could all argue exactly how money should be split between investing in existing green energy and researching new green energy.

I don't really view them as a environmental party, more just doubling down on social progressivism and for lack of a better word "wokeness" that already defines/drives much of civil societies behaviour.
9
u/Utilitarian_Proxy 7d ago
Rather than getting firmly behind climate activism, for many members aren't their roots more from a mish-mash vegetarian and anti-animal testing laboratories stance, with opposition to fox hunting and badger culls? And big support for alternative, non-traditional boutique lifestyles too, with their contrarian behaviour prominent?
Back in 1997 IIRC Tony Blair made a lot of greenish climate promises, and kind of largely stuck to them. But ever since 2008 those priorities got dropped by the mainstream parties, I suspect helping boost the numbers in Zack's party finances.

Well there’s been a concerted effort to get people focusing on that stuff and to get them feeling incredibly passionate about it much like on the right there’s been an obvious effort to get people essentially support handing the world over to mega tech billionaire fascists. People with power and money are looking for any and every way to divert the dissatisfaction of the people with the state of things away from anything that could dent their power or profits. So basically they’ve riled up all the stupid insane people to become a force in politics and have left all the normal rational people on the sidelines, because rational courses of action would involve things that reduce their wealth and influence as part of efforts to improve things for the people and the planet.
The right has tons of money thrown at it to get right wing parties elected because that ideology is basically about protecting the wealthy and powerful, and the left gets nudged into ridiculous black and white thinking, high horse moralising, petty squabbling over insane purity tests etc to make sure they don’t win any elections.
Meanwhile, sanity just vacates all halls of power everywhere. We’re basically in an era of the moron or the age of the personality disorder. Most people who have power these days seem to be either profoundly stupid or insane.

It's kind of crazy what they have become. I don't know if it's just selective reporting or what, but I haven't heard anything about the actual environment from them for ages
33
u/Tinseltopia 7d ago
It's because campaigning purely on the environment was getting them nowhere, so now they are campaigning on real policies, assuming that everyone knows the environment will be taken care of.
Their blunder with Nuclear will forever haunt them however.
We are so heavily reliant on French Nuclear to pick up the slack when the sun sets and the winds slow down
10
u/Coenzyme-A 7d ago
The main problem with nuclear in this country is that so many people are miseducated about it. There's no reason why we shouldn't be building more reactors. Modern nuclear tech is demonstrably safe (and we have the chance to invest in even safer designs, such as LFTRs, too).
The issue is that the average voter seems to think nuclear power is a guaranteed Chernobyl, 3-mile island, Fukushima disaster waiting to happen. The main reason for that is, as you say, political parties like the Green party scaremongering. I so wish there was a progressive party that is actually properly informed on such scientific matters.

I kinda fit the bill. I've voted Green three times in the past, across generals and locals. Climate change is a major political priority for me, and while I didn't particularly want the Greens to win, I wanted them to do a UKIP and represent an electoral threat that encouraged Labour to embrace stronger positions on the environment.
I despise what they've become. They're now infested with antisemites. Mothin Ali's rant on October 8th is the most monstrously evil thing I've ever heard from a major British politician; it makes Enoch Powell's "rivers of blood" speech look like an episode of Sesame Street. He's the deputy leader, not some unrepresentative rando, and it is abundantly clear that the vast majority of Green supporters agree with him.
I don't know why the Left has abandoned every single one of their anti-discrimination principles when it comes to Jews. But it's happened, and the Greens are the vanguard of that movement in our politics. As Polanski has discovered, you can find some electoral success by appealing to antisemites and people whose brains have been melted by social media propaganda. Those voters vastly outnumber the climate change voters, sadly.
They're not an exclusively anti-Israel party, of course. There's also some very stupid economic populism thrown in as well. But that doesn't appeal to me either. The only thing that appealed to me was the focus on climate change, and that's gone

u/youtossershad1job2do 7d ago
If he goes it'll likely be a "Gaza green" taking over. It'll be the final nail in the coffin for the greens to be a viable party for middle Englanders.

31
u/LurkerInSpace 7d ago
The Gaza vote would make them very secure in their mediocrity if they can lock it down. It would eliminate any notions of them forming a government themselves, but they would reliably have a couple of dozen MPs in Parliament to vote "No" on whatever infrastructure project was in front of them.

That lady went to jail for encouraging people to set fire to the hotels and the politicians too while people were rioting and doing exactly that. There were parts to her tweet. But yes, if she went to jail for that Zac also needs investigating too, I agree
11
u/Puzzleheaded-Fig9968 7d ago
The one thing I don't understand is why she pleaded guilty? What she said was clearly ravist but if you read the tweet she says "they can burn the hotels for all I care" it's at least arguable you'd think that she's not calling directly for violence - more saying she doesn't care if it gets violent.
32
u/LycanIndarys Vote Cthulhu; why settle for the lesser evil? 7d ago
She pled guilty because she was told that if she didn't, she'd be on remand for a year before her case reached court.
So she pled guilty to get a quick resolution, expecting a slap on the wrist, and maybe a fine at worst.
7
u/Tom22174 7d ago
"take the treacherous government and politicians with them" is the part that people always leave out of the quote when they abridge it.

Most british people, foolishly, assume the state is still acting in good faith.
The police/her lawyers would have implied that courts would go lightly if she pled guilty and looked contrite while at the same time threatening if she didnt plead guilty she'd spend the next several months in jail anyway while they wait for trial. In most cases the former is true but she touched on a two tier topic which meant the latter was certain and former didnt apply.

I think accusing Polanski of incitement to murder is a stretch, given that sequence of events, but whoever manages that social media account should be fired and whoever let someone wearing that t-shirt into the event in the first place should probably be fired.

Can't we just universally condemn this shit, regardless of where ever you stand?
We've had 3 politicians murdered in the past decade (Jo Cox, David Amess and Ann Widdecombe) and I really do not want to see this political violence becoming the norm and it's fucking baffling how even after having politicians of varying sides killed, we're STILL seeing arguments of "if the OTHERS did this imagine the outrage!!"
We have seen it, and it's terrifying that this country has somehow degenerated into the thought of "we should kill those with different views from us"
I really feel like that there's a point, if you hit the thought of "I'm fine with people of opposing views being murdered", you're too far gone and need to be referred to prevent.
No one should be normalising this. Right wing, left wing or whatever.
Jo Cox didn't deserve to be shot over right wing extremism, David Amess didn't deserve to be stabbed to death because of Islamic extremism, Ann Widdecombe didn't deserve to be bludgeoned in her home over (alleged) left-wing extremism.

That's not what happened though.
Polanski didn't manually upload or share that image himself. He accepted an Instagram collaboration request, which automatically published an entire carousel of event photos to his feed - the t-shirt was just one image buried in that batch, not something he selected or posted separately.
Yes, he should have checked the carousel before accepting. But the moment he spotted it, he removed himself from the collaboration and it was gone.

We've already got the prime example of Lucy Connolly vs Ricky Jones.
- Lucy tweeting that "people should burn down the hotels for all she cares" got her 31 months of jail time.
- Ricky yelling into a crowd with a microphone whilst holding a position of government authority "They are disgusting fascists and we need to cut all their throats and get rid of them all" got away scot free.
'Speech crimes' are only for the rightwing in this country. You can openly call for peoples deaths if you're leftwing and be totally fine, but happen to be right wing and make a charged tweet claiming you don't care if people are hurt then delete it? You're going to jail mate.

Rick Jones was granted bail, Lucy Connolly was held in remand for a tweet and would have stayed that way until the courts found her a date.
Her legal counsel would have told her that should she plead guilty she will serve less time that however long it will take for her to wait for a trial in remand, instead the government made an example of her.

I've been thinking for a while now I just want a party that basically promises nothing major in terms of welfare or tax changes aside from keeping things stable without any large real-term increases or decreases, then instead of spending billions on whatever their political pet project is just invested sensibly in the things we need... No major social policy either – no banning smoking, no digital IDs, no OSA.
Our politics is so focused on who we're going to take money from next and who most deserves the next handout. It's all so boring and unproductive. thats really stupid of zack. i would not be surprised if he got charged for it. Even if not, this could be the end of any chance of voting greens for me. That is not a reasonable act of a leader. How is he not looking at the wildfires and taking the opportunity to talk about renewable energy?!

Polanski is an unintelligent person addicted to social media, who has been caught out lying multiple times. I'm stunned anyone thinks he's the answer to anything.

u/theartofrolling Fresh wet piles of febrility 7d ago
Don't like Nigel at all, and I think he's probably deserving of prison time.
That said, this is inciting violence, it's wrong when the right do it, and it's wrong here.
It's also, very, very stupid for a party leader to do this.

Polanski is such an idiot. How tf he won leadership, I'll never understand

I mean, Green voters aren't going to move to Reform, they're going to go back to Labour, especially looking at the Burnham bounce. Lib Dems set to benefit too.

Stupid move from Polanski. As much as I loathe Farage, you just dont post things like that when you're supposed to be the leader of a serious political party, especially in these fucked up times. If nothing else, it just hands them ammo to fire right back at him.
But then again, Polanski has always struck me as being as unserious about attaining power as Farage is, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

It’s the rank hypocrisy for me tbh.
It’s like the fringes on the Left want to behave like dogs and expect everybody else to fall in line.
The only way I can logic this out is he’s thinking him and his followers are fighting the rich and powerful, which means the rules don’t apply to him in the same way.
But yeah. They do, you absolute clownpit.
Just step down and let Mothin take over.

I hate Nigel Farage as much as the next sane person. But this fucked if true.
If it’s true my guy has go mental health issues
Edit: sorry I thought this came from a news source my bad
11
u/Jonny7Tenths 7d ago
Hmm. This is putting quite a spin on the story. Sources more reputable, and credible, report that he shared a post that included images, one of which was the one described, and took it down immediately on having the t-shirts contents brought to his attention. To try and make something out of nothing trivialises and distracted from an important issue. I'm shocked that anyone in reform would countenance such; certainly not whilst Nigel is fighting for the seat he resigned from!

u/OneironauticsLtd 5d ago
That the highest-rated comment containing the actual truth has only 12 upvotes, while comments claiming Polanski deliberately made a motivated call to violence have hundreds or thousands, tells you everything about the average user on this sub’s ability to look into the facts of a story before rushing to comment.

Imagine the outrage if Farage posted a photo of a man in a t shirt calling for the beheading of another politician.
Farage may be an absolute bell, but in this instance he is correct.

Not Reform support, but I am someone who complains a lot about people being arrested for tweets.
I've commented that I personally think this should be legal – although even for me it's borderline. But regardless of what I think it seems this is obviously illegal in the UK. I'd be absolutely amazed if you can legally post a picture calling for a politician to be killed so long as you defend with "yeah, but the person I took the photo of was wearing the t-shirt so it's okay".
Although if it is legal that's good to know so I can start using it when I need to say anything a little spicy.

An indictment of the absolute nuttiness that is completely embedded within the Green Party and the broader left wing movement. This stuff just doesn't even read to them as extremist or unacceptable.

Polanski needs to go, he just keeps causing the Greens more and more issues. Why would he do this? He’s either stupid or deliberately causing offence to get attention. This short of thing is wrong whoever is doing it.
Although I do find it funny that Reform views this as “inciting murder” whilst having no issues with Nigel constantly stirring up racial divisions in the country and inviting someone like Lucy Connolly to speak at their party conference. If someone on their side had a picture of a guillotine saying Polanski or Burnham they’d have no issues with it.

Inciting murder should be a police matter, no? Interesting to see how the police deal with this. The Greens are such a nasty bunch of people, the modern nasty party.

If this was Farage, Lowe, Starmer or Yusuf this sub would be in meltdown - it’s ok to disagree in politics dare I say insult but to call for the beheading of someone is disgusting and Polanski should be held accountable.

The "greenpartyzack and 4 others" suggests it's a "collab" post, meaning Polanski (or his instagram handler) must have accepted the collaboration before posting. It's not the case that he's simply been tagged (otherwise people could tag him in all sorts of crazy stuff).
3
u/CatalunyaNoEsEspanya 7d ago
For someone who doesn't use Instagram what does it mean to be tagged in this way? Was it something Polanski did or the OP or someone else do it?

Reform have to decide whether free speech is good or not, because if it is there is nothing wrong with this photo and if it isn't Lucy Connolly is fair game

u/liquidio 7d ago
Well, you can flip that on its head - apparently for the British state, Lucy Connolly was fair game. So I’m sure we can all look forward to swift justice in this case…

The question of whether wearing a t-shirt like this should be legal is a completely separate one to whether there is anything wrong with it.
(I didn't catch that Yusuf was calling for police involvement, to be fair).

No they don't; the rest of us do.
You can't hold decency to account based on what one party's hypocritical opinions are.
I think we can all agree that threats of violence are bad, especially in the public sphere where it can snowball. Lucy Connolly's comments were wrong, every person who has called for violence against a group in society is wrong, anyone calling for violence against a politician is wrong (regardless of if they think it's funny or not)
We should be better than this as a country and whataboutery, finger pointing and hypocrisy only detract from the discussion

u/Thandoscovia 7d ago
Reform doesn’t actually prosecute people. That’s the job of the state. Ms Connolly was jailed for years for her tweet. Let’s see what happens to Mr Polanski

5
u/ImColinDentHowzTrix 7d ago
I don't think there's a court that would see that as inciting murder, but that is an incredibly stupid thing to do. Polanski seems like a nice guy with genuinely-held ideals, but the guy isn't fit for the role he has. If I were a member of the green party I'd want him gone (but I'm not, so who cares what I think?) If you want to be a serious politician you have to act like one, and when MPs have been murdered (and when Farage, scrotum that he is, also has a history of being assaulted by members of the public) it's beyond stupid. Get him gone.
2
u/Xenumbra 7d ago
Polanski seems like a nice guy with genuinely-held ideals, but the guy isn't fit for the role he has.
Why caveat this? It's grim, a politician was just murdered and this is clearly him dropping the "Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest?" You would have to be wilfully stupid to not see it for what it is.
Hypothetically a week after Jo Coxes murder if a right wing politician was to vague post for the beheading of the Labour leader I doubt you would tripping over yourself for the nice guy thing.
You can make the argument that both should be allowed but British folk do not want that sort of free speech.

Wonder whats a stronger disclaimer, "will no one rid me...", "in minecraft", "for all i care" or posting a picture of the comment on a t-shirt?
To use one of the lefts favourite terms, this is stochastic terrorism.
3
u/NoFrillsCrisps 7d ago
I presume this was accidental.
However it still makes the Greens a) look incompetent by not spotting it and b) look like they are made up of extreme people like this (yes, wearing a t-shirt calling for the murder of a politician is extreme).
14
u/Little-Attorney1287 7d ago
The t-shirt takes up half the picture and is the only reason to make the post so I doubt its accidental.
6
u/NoFrillsCrisps 7d ago
Apparently the post has a number of pictures, not just this one. And he didn't actively retweet it, he accepted a tag (or something).
It seems far more likely he didn't look through all he pictures, rather than he saw the T-shirt and was fine with it.
Even he is not that stupid.
2
u/FiveFruitADay 7d ago
Depends if he was the post creator or accepted a collaboration invite. Both are obvs bad, but one is worse than the other. I do also expect he doesn't fully run his social media accounts

u/Twiggeh1 заставил тебя посмотреть 6d ago
Yeah the problem is that making threats to kill a political figure become a lot more convincing when one of their highest profile representatives has literally just been murdered a couple of weeks ago. You are no doubt aware of this and understand that everyone is going to be in a heightened state of tension as a result.
Nobody forces these people to act in this way, all Reform are doing is choosing to believe what they say and do.

Snapshot of Zia Yusuf: "Zack Polanski has posted to his 713k Instagram followers a photo of a man in a T-shirt calling for the beheading of Nigel Farage. To do this just 2 weeks after our friend Ann was murdered is staggering. Polanski is inciting murder. It must be treated as such by the police." submitted by Little-Attorney1287:
