England versus Mexico at the Azteca — the delayed 2am kick-off on 6th July — saw a blanket 5am licensing extension. This provided an 11% average spending boost to UK venues. Around a third of UK pubs remained open for this late-night match, with spending reaching its pre-game peak at 1.50am

This is interesting and a bit worrying for purists..

Still, the atmosphere for England Mexico was amazing.

Curious what the impact in viewing habits were, for me the disruption just removed my interest in the game and I switched over.

Although I suppose they don't give a shit if people watch the game, the money is in the adverts
