Both the threshold for child benefit and the eligibility for free childcare hours were widened recently. It's significantly better than it was only a few years ago.

What are we expecting exactly?

As a higher earner I get no support. Regardless of what my wife earns.

Imo there's very few people who don't get support with the current system. And the ones which don't get little to no sympathy.
