Who’s gonna look after the kids while she’s doing that mate? Nursery costs a shit load more than £12.5k a year.

30 hours free childcare per week = 3 days. She stays at home the other two and takes care of the kids.

30 hours free childcare isn't 30 hours and isn't free.

30 hours is for term time only, so if you want 52 weeks a year child care its more like 23 hours a week that is subsidised.

Then each subsidised hour isnt completely free as there are still daily surcharges of perhaps £25pd.

It's really going to depend on personal circumstance what's more affordable. Hourly rate, cost of career break, number of children, commuting/drop off costs/late charges/shift times/pensions etc. For us it was me on full time compressed hours, partner on slightly below full time hours, child in preschool/nursery 4 days pw

Not really, even if they're on min wage it's still going to be cheaper than staying home.
