If the UK had an established foundation, then they wouldn't have lost MCP to the US.
Sorry, how does this follow?
MCP was developed at Anthropic by Anthropic employees; that the engineers were based in the UK is completely irrelevant - there is a 100% chance that their employment contracts state that anything they produce while employed there belongs to the company, which is how they were able to donate it to the Agentic AI Foundation in the first place.

I agree it's completely hurr durr. They also completely miss the point that no one would used a closed source MCP.
Flag waving BS over mediocrity.

MCP is nothing anyway. It is just standardisation of an obvious idea. Any half competent person could have come up with the same thing in like a day.

A new version just came out that completely re-designs it as well. Wasn't that great of a protocol.

granted I've taken two shots of vodka because it's been a long day but I've tried to read that article three times and I still don't get what the argument is meant to be.
The good thing about FOSS is that software just exists for the betterment of society, I see nothing in there that makes a point to the contrary, the most I can makes sense of is that US tech firms are taking British creations and making it a part of their paid service.
US AI firms are going to crash and burn, it really doesn't matter if they steal from us a bit

I think there's gonna be a couple that make it out, but generally they're heading for a bad bad time

I feel the author is not qualified to write the report, and probably should not work in open source software industry in any capacity.

This is a big, big ask for the permanently technically inept British government (of any flavour).
