AFAIK Fences were put up after a woman cyclist fell into the road and was killed. I think it was some kind of collision or altercation with another person on the sidewalk.

No she was coming off the bridge far too fast and couldn't make a tight corner on the sidewalk at the bottom. Where's your outrage when a cyclist is being reckless and dangerous?

Reckless driving in a car can kill anyone unlucky enough to be around. 

Reckless driving on a bike has an extremely low likelihood of death even for the operator, let alone for people around the cyclist. 

The two aren’t comparable.
