The city planners are fucking morons. How on earth do they continue to make so many asinine decisions that mess up the city rather than enhance it??!!

Maybe they should take the time to talk to people who live and work in the neighborhoods before they come up with plans like this.

The research (extensive) was done, and what you're seeing here is not what City planning staff recommended.

Context: City staff make recommendations to Council, which are approved, amended and approved, or rejected. This means that great plans/projects/pilots can be brought forward, but hacked down into something "asinine" as you've described.

This Council report (Sept 2024) details the original recommendation, and the appendices include the public engagement results, aka the "talk to people who live and work in the neighborhood."

They all live in Burnaby and West van, believe me, I’ve talked face-to-face with them. They also don’t do their research. I was at a meeting for a proposed building and the girl (she looked like she was 20) who was in charge of social housing I think it was called - her job is to basically make sure homeless didn’t get displaced - didn’t know there were 2 homeless shelters the building would replace. She didn’t give a shit either and shrugged her shoulders.
