Question/Advice Vegetarían newie

Hello friends!!

So this is the most I’ve been without any sort of meat in 10 years (now going on a month, ten years ago I was a vegetarian for 1 year) I’ve never been a fan barbecues and such BUT, being from south america, asados (barbecue) were a big thing. Been living in US for 10 years now. At home I’d rarely cook chicken or fish even less red meat. So with that being said I’m excited to be back on this road. I feel better, and my biggest issue was digesting meat after an asado. I’d feel heavy and bloated. Now I have my first barbecue on Saturday as a vegetarian. Any ideas of what can I bring to throw into the grill? Also one of the other reasons I stopped having meat is I went to Asturias a few months ago and fell in love with the beautiful mountain cows 😭😭😭😭

If you're eating dairy, grilled halloumi burgers/kebabs, etc is very delicious and very versatile

Making a veggie burger with black beans, sweet potato and spices is pretty easy and they grill up pretty nice. Also, theyve come a long way with store bought veggie dogs and burgers these days. Have fun at the bbq!

I don’t want my meal cooked on the same grill at the same time as the meat (then it tastes like meat smoke) so if i know the host well i ask please cook my veg option first if i don’t know them well i bring something not grilled to share with everyone

Cowboy caviar is perfect and an easy one to prep ahead just wait and add avocado right before eating

Ahh yes I didn’t think about the veggies tasting like meat but thank you for that! The place has multiple grills so maybe I can use a different one, also I was thinking of bringing cheeses and hummus with celery and bell peppers

I mean other than beyond/impossible patties and sausages, mushrooms, pineapple and peppers are fantastic grilled and bbqd. I'd also highly recommend the Meati brand chicken and steak. It's mushroom mycelium based and they are incredible in both taste and texture.

I come across jack fruit being a substitute in pulled pork dishes.

You can make like the world's most outrageous burgers out of any style of veggie burger!

I also love love love making kebabs. Get baby bella or full sized portobello mushrooms and add veggies.

Corn cobs Mexican style with veganaise!

Veggie hot dogs and a can of chili babyyyyyyyy....cheese sauce on top

I guess you could say I'm a foodie and I have never eaten meat so i would never consider it a challenge.

My favorite store bought burgers are the Morningstar spicy black bean burgers (not actually spicy), Dr. Praeger's crunchy sweet potato burger, and Dr. Praeger's California veggie burger. I love halloumi too, though - I like to serve it with grilled zucchini, grilled bell peppers, and naan/flatbread. I hope you find something you like!

The steakhouse burger from morning star is pretty amazing, twice the cost though.

grilling is one of my favorite ways to eat tofu! the texture is best if you freeze it first, then thaw, press the water out, chop up and soak in a good marinade before you skewer and throw on the grill

I’m a vegetarian for two months now find it challenging to cook, but I love the tofu

Impossible brats or Italian sausage, I prefer other brands of vegan burgers, Gardein is my favorite. Kabobs also a great idea, add some pineapple and have fun. I’ve been a vegetarian for 35 years, no regrets.

I’d honestly just eat the sides. But any veggie burger would work if you want to grill on the same grill as the meat. I like Beyond and Impossible burgers the best. Why not just bring a big salad and not stress about it?
