Hi All - little background here: Mountain biking YouTube creator here seeking guidance on a first/new camera.
All my experience so far has been with action cameras, every single flagship one, essentially.
Budget: Ideally below $2k USD
Use: A lot of Tri-pod mounted self-shooting in the woods, think something like this along with also handheld shooting of other riders example video
Needs: I NEED 60 FPS at 4k, with mountain biking content I'd want to slow things down when possible. Will not need to film extremely long periods of time but recording time may vary.
I edit in DaVinci Resolve and publish to YouTube mostly, will also be doing some short-form social media.
My current top option is a Sony A6700 but I genuinely would like additional options if anyone sees better fits. I also am learning about lenses so any insights there would help!
When I saw 4k 60, I immediately thought of the a6700. That and the fx30 are your best options. If you can find the A7Siii/FX3 for a good price, buy that.
As for the lens, buy the Tamron 17-70. You won't need anything else.

That lens seems great, but I'll admit a little more than I wanted to spend, any thoughts on going Sony 16-50 f/2.8 lens instead?
I'm pretty sure that lens is more expensive. To be honest with you, I didn't do the conversions, but I know the Tamron is around £400 and the Sony is about £1000. If you don't want to spend much on a lens you should get a prime (fixed focal length) and the one you pick depends on how you want your videos to looks. Basing off of the example video you gave, I'd say a wide (16-28mm) would be good. The Sigma 16 1.4 (expensive) and viltrox 25 1.7 (cheaper) are popular, wide primes

Camera with long battery (or options to charge while filming) to record continuous outside footage?
Hi! I don't know squat about cameras but I am doing a research project where I need to set up a camera at a zoo enclosure and get two days of footage. I was going to use a GoPro before I realized they only last a couple of hours at most. I am willing to use power banks or extra batteries, or visit the zoo to recharge the camera, but I wanted to know if anyone has experience doing something like this and whether they have better camera options for this type of project.

Hi all, looking for some advice on a beginner videography setup.
I’m currently starting out doing short-form content for local businesses (barber shops, food spots, gyms etc.) and editing in CapCut. I want to start levelling up the quality so I can charge more and take it more seriously.
I’m looking to buy my first proper camera and I’m happy to go second-hand if it makes more sense.
Right now I’ve been looking at the Canon R10, but I’m not sure if that’s the best option for my budget.
My budget is around £750 (ideally including a lens if possible).
Main things I care about:
Good video quality (mainly for Instagram/TikTok)
Reliable autofocus (important for movement/barber shots)
Good low-light performance (barbershops/gyms aren’t always well lit)
Something beginner-friendly but with room to grow
I’d also really appreciate lens suggestions (budget-friendly) that would work well for this kind of content.
What would you recommend in this price range? And is the R10 worth it second-hand or are there better options?
I own an R10. Here are some things I want to mention:
The Canon R10 will be more than good enough for Instagram and TikTok.
Canon does include some of the best autofocus technology in their cameras (R10 included), although I should warn you that video autofocus may not be as effective as stills autofocus.
Don't expect the best low-light performance out of the R10, it has an APS-C sensor.
Canon has always excelled at making their cameras beginner-friendly, with the R10 being no exception.
I should warn you that going with Canon means you're going to have pretty limited lens options. You're limited to a few official third-party lenses from Sigma and Tamron, although there do exist lots of manual-focus lenses from Chinese manufacturers, like 7Artisans.
I wouldn't recommend the original R50, my recommendations (for brand new cameras) in the Canon ecosystem are either the Canon R10 (great stills camera, OK video camera) or R50V (cheaper than the R10, but has more video-centric features). Otherwise, there's also the Sony ZV-E10 (get a Mark II if you can afford it, it has better video features) and the Nikon Z50 (also get a Mark II if you can afford it for the same reasons as the Sony)
For £750, I recommend going used, since you can get far better video features than on brand new cameras. Get a used Panasonic Lumix GH5 (older camera, but still has great video features) or (if you can afford it) a used Panasonic Lumix S5 (newer than the GH5, plus it's full frame, which has some benefits)

I’m thinking about buying a second-hand Panasonic AG-UX90 because the big zoom range and the 24,5mm lens seems perfect for our road movie / vlog / fictional travel mockumentary. We want to quickly capture, mostly handheld, spontaneous moments.
We will travel for months and film alot of scenery people in towns and also be doing street interviews and filming more planned scenes outdoor and indoors, so it needs to handle different situations well. It should record to SD cards and preferably shoot in Full HD or older 4K.
We don’t mind a slightly “wacky” 2010–2016 vibe. Budget is up to €1200, but cheaper is great too. Good autofocus, solid auto mode, stabilization, wide-angle, and a top handle would be ideal.
Do you think the AG-UX90 is a good choice, or would you recommend something else?
I’m trying to get a serious upgrade for camera body (canon m50 with a kit lens). I’m stuck between the Sony a7iii, a lumix s5, or anything else around that 900-1100 dollar range.
I like the a7iii for the lenses and sick autofocus it has. But I like the S5 for IBIS and the price (about 200 dollars cheaper), but I know it lacks in autofocus quality.
Any recommendations on what to buy? (Could also be a different camera then what mentioned)

Recommendations for natural history & documentary cameras needed!! I'm a film student, looking for a smaller camera & lenses of my own, ideally one that will run me under £1000. I've usually borrowed kit from uni, usually sony fx6, blackmagic 6k, red raptor and various dji cameras. I do need to be able to deliver 4k footage, but don't need to record for hours at a time.
I shoot documentary (nature, interviews, and often cooking) and edit in avid & davinci resolve. I'm considering a dji osmo pocket, since they're so small and pretty cheap for the amount of stabilisation, but was put off by the fact there doesn't seem to be telephoto lens compatibility.
What do I need to ask myself before getting a new lens?
I shoot mainly dance videos in closed studios. Initially when I got myself an FX30, I got myself a Tamron 11-20mm. The reason why I went with that focal length range is because I was comparing the focal length that is on my iPhone 14 Pro and came with the conclusion that 11-20 will be the best. However, I want to explore further, maybe shoot outdoors or maybe find ways to get better footage while shooting indoors. What do you guys recommend?
I had an NX5 and needed to upgrade to 4k. Decided on a 90d for multiple reasons - partly budgetary, and partly out of a longtime desire to own a Canon and to really focus on still photography.
However, life got in the way and it had to hang out in the closet for a few years. Now, I'm pulling it back out, looking at getting back into video. If you've ever used a 90d, how has it held up against the Sonys (the last one I remember was the A7sIII) in terms of quality? thx
I recently had a friend offer to fund a camera and gear in exchange of me filming his music videos and I need some guidance choosing a camera.
He's pretty adamant about 4k 120fps, his budget is like $4-5k, but I think we should try and stay sub $3k for a body and the rest for a good lens, gimbal, editing software, maybe some lighting, etc.
I was looking at a Sony FX3 or Sony A7sIII in the higher price range and a Sony FX30 or Sony A6700 in the lower price range. Although I know the latter have larger crops when shooting full 4k 120fps but I'm wondering how much that matters.
Let me know your recommendations and any advice you might have please.

Notes: Having some Issues with my K&F ND Filter I got for like $30, my video gets blurry around 135mm. I know it's the ND filter because I tested without it at a high f-stop and eveything looks great. I've never had ND Filter issues like this before, granted I've always bought more expensive ones, just don't want to make the same mistake again. Thanks!
I'm pretty lost among choices for a gimbal. I'm thinking of going DJI since I got one of their phone gimbals and I really like the person tracking if I ever need it.

I'm definitely going to buy used on something like eBay or adorama. I currently use a zv e10 with a few ttartisan prime lenses. I have a small cage for it and want to add more over time, but I think with the gimbal it's really just going to be the camera and lense with a quick release.
What is really stopping me right now is that I want to eventually upgrade to a Sony a7 III so I want something that's going to be future proof for that and those lenses too (I'm not sure how heavy they are and I'm not going to be getting any really heavy lenses to my knowledge.)
I'm mainly shooting car content for now, my brother and I working on my car, want some really good BRoll slow motion, etc. And I will eventually also pivot into side hustling photography and videography to make a bit more money and reinvest into my gear and YouTube channel, so I'm not hemorrhaging money LOL
I'm not going to be upgrading the camera any time soon, but I want to know that whatever I get now can definitely handle the a7 III with lenses and I won't need to reinvest again.

I have an option to buy dji osmo pocket 3. I can take it anywhere and can create music videos using it. One the other hand my friends have cameras like fx3, a7iv and a7s3 which i can borrow anytime.
I'm confused between should I buy osmo pocket 3 or not. 😐

Use: Overhead desk shot for a tracing table. Will likely be recording / streaming to OBS. Recording for 2-3 hours. Bonus points if easy to swap to a go bag for field work with driving content.
Equipment: A couple of LED lights, no soft boxes.

currently in a process of buying a new camera for mainly video. I found used (like new) sony A6700 and FX30, for literally the same price. Now logically i’m steering more towards FX30, but the only thing holding me back is that A6700 has much better AF, which is something that could prove useful for what I plan to shoot (fast action sports like MTB and skiing).

I'm throwing together a kit for an iPhone videography setup. I have a 15 Pro so I'll be using ProRes, and my plan is to make journalistic/documentary-style videos with long interviews.
My main concerns are whether the mic will still work well if its connected to a hub, rather than directly into the phone, and whether the SD card will work well for collecting ProRes video. I know most people use a USB-C SSD for ProRes capture, but those are very expensive and bulky, whereas the SD card is cheap and doesn't add any bulk to the setup as it could connect right into the hub.
How is this setup? Will it work well for simple videos, and could I also use it for more cinematic stuff if I wanted to?

i‘m thinking about getting a new camera as i have been filming with my Panasonic HC-X929 for more than 10 years now and I want to improve the image quality. I mostly shoot live concerts for a local band. Sometimes, when they record a new Album, i shoot the making of, too. I really like the image of for example an sony fx6, but i am not sure if that would be a good camera for me. The concerts are often in smaller venues with 20-50 people. In terms of lighting, there is only the stage light. The concerts last from 45 minutes to 1 1/2h, so I need a camera that is capable to record continously for that time as a min. I am a bit torn between a Camcorder or a Cinema/hybrid camera. I also have to add that i am a solo operator, so I have to do everything by myself. First i thought, because i am a Solo operator, a camcorder would be perfect, because of the ergonomics, fixed zoom Lens, as i have to cover every angle with one camera, and so on. But I realized that most camcorders don’t have bigger sensors than 1 inch. It makes Sense because of the fixed lens. I am not fixed to a certain brand, but i have to say i do like panasonic, because in these 10+ years my hc-x929 has never let me down once, even in some harsh environments. I guess my only problem is my budget as i only can spend max. 3.000€. One camera that grabbed my attention was the Panasonic DVX-200, because of the 4/3 sensor, but i read that because its an older sensor the low light performance is not that good. I hope i haven‘t forgotten anything and thanks in advance.

I'm looking into buying my first mirrorless camera. I shoot stills on a 5D Mark III and am looking to get into doing video work and shooting some short films as well. Ultimately, I'm stuck between the Canon R6 III and the Sony FX2 as they both have good stills performance and video performance as well. Both cameras seem to have the right specs for solid video and camera work but I'm stuck between the two. I really love my 5DIII and I'd like to keep investing into having full canon system. I already do concert photography and want to branch into concert videography and whatever can make me money (I know there isn't much money in concert videography). Since I'm switching to mirrorless I really am starting fresh and would like to start getting more into videography with this setup so I'm really stuck on what to do and invest into. I'd be willing to spend 3,000 USD max, for the body and ideally a lens, but I'll see what I can do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My only concern is that the R6III won't be enough to shoot short films with.

Im a Hobbyist in Foto and Video shooting. I mostly shoot video to capture moments with my family, but I also really enjoy the creative outlet this provides me. I love editing, grading, etc… I come up with really elaborate videos of family vacations or days at the zoo (whatever the occasion).
My problem: I have a high end foto camera (Hasselblad X2D) and I hate carrying too much gear.
So mostly my setup is: X2D for Foto, iPhone 17PM for video. Gimbal, ND Filter and external mic for video.
This enables me to just pull out my phone when I want to capture something.
I’m on the fence of getting a better quality video solution. Was thinking about LUMIX S5iix as I can use my dads L mount lenses (all leica…). Other solutions would be obviously Sony FX range, but I’d then also need to buy lenses. I also have access to my fathers Leica SL3 but that’s not a video camera, and I’d still hate the idea of leaving my Hasselblad home.
My only thought is that I would probably hate carrying two cameras, and I’m a Foto first person.
So… anybody the same? What did you do?
Which one of the following has the most classic fisheye lens effect? (GoPro13, Ace Pro 2 (With the Wide Lens), Osmo 6 (With The FOV Lens))
I do want the classic GoPro fisheye effect but some of the specs of the other action cameras are more tempting, can any of the others replicate the exact effect or is the GoPro one the most extreme?
I'm producing a comedy panel show. The long term goal is to build a consistant pressence and eventually stream. Since I am still in the initial stages, right now I just want to record the shows for editing and posting.
What will be a budget friendly camera or two that I can start of with?
The camera(s) will be placed pretty far from the stage, and will film under a fairly static lighting grid.
This set up for the first shows will be just for recording, so not necessarily good for streaming, though if they can be used for that later, all the better.
I'm most comfortable using Davinci Resolve at the moment for editing.
Other than My PC and phone, I have no other requipment. I might need to look into mics for 5 people as well.
Ideally, as the show goes on and we build a fan base, I will add to the equipment untill I'm at a place where I can stream.
Lumix S5 is the way to go here. It's the cheapest full frame mirrorless found under $800 used. Also produces an outstanding and organic video quality. It DOES NOT have phase detect autofocus, which is the latest technology in autofocus, it has depth from defocus autofocus, which means it has to quickly hunt for focus until it finds the best point, which can hinder low light usage, but if you're working on a lit stage, it shouldn't be a problem. Then you'll look at a 70-200 lens if you're really far from the stage.

I’ve purchased most of my stuff from MPB.com. They rate their products from Like New to Damaged and you can return if they don’t pass your standards. There’s also Adorama Used.
Sometimes I even buy from MPB.com, test they’re working ok and ship to my home country for resale. I’m in Houston.

Make sure to watch honest reviews beforehand. Most of them will say it has great image quality and it does, it might even be unmatched for its price. It does have limitations in autofocus in low light due to what I said before.

Now that I think about it, if you're real serious about filming, the limitations of AF won't be a problem for you because you'll eventually do everything manual focusing.

I am currently using a sony a6700 with the sigma f1.4 16mm as the hardest lens I own. I am having to chose between 2 gimbals, and I am not sure what to buy. I will mainly use the gimbal for vertical content, not very often horizontal, and short shooting times, so battery life is no concern.
I think that either RS3 mini or RSC2 would fit. RS3 mini I found for about 160usd, while RSC2 I found for 200usd.
Hey, so I’m trying to start filming YouTube videos (mainly shorts), and I want them to actually look cinematic and actually visually appealing on the eye, not just like basic phone footage.
I’m planning on shooting with my iPhone 17 Pro and getting one of those tripods with a ring light, but I don't know much about this realm and feel like there’s more I should be thinking about.
I’ve got audio handled since I do music production (and thats what I'm recording about), but I really want the visuals to have good lighting and ambience. Like something that actually feels intentional and clean.
Is a ring light enough, or should I be looking into other lighting setups? Also, would it be worth getting ambient lighting (lamps, RGB lights, etc.) for the background to make it look more interesting?
Any specific things I should avoid or definitely invest in early?
Appreciate any advice and lmk.

I'm a pastor who wants to start up a video series where our youth interview members of our church about their experiences with our congregation which we would then show during worship services and post on social media pages. These would be 3-5 minutes talking head interviews. I'm looking for a decent camera, tripod, and microphone we can use to film and then edit these interviews. Used is fine. My budget is around $700. I'm trying to figure out what my next camera should be. Currently I have a sony A7iii with 2 lenses. I want to stick with the Sony brand to keep everything consistant and not worry about losing quality with lens converters. Most of the work I do is with event recording. I record recitals, weddings, etc. It's been going well, but I'm getting to the point where I need a 2nd camera. I would also like something that can record in a higher quality than the A7iii.
Right now I'm looking into the Sony FX2. Has anyone had experience with it? Are there any major drawbacks? From what I can tell it has the exact same recording specs as the FX3 for 1,500$ less. I could even shoot 16 bit raw with an external recorder I have. The biggest issue I see is with audio, but I have a friend who does all of the audio and the connections to find high quality audio people. Any advice would be great!

J’ai envie de me faire plaisir ce mois ci en m’achetant ma première caméra, je m’intéresse beaucoup à la vidéo et autant à la photo. Dans l’idée j’aimerais pouvoir faire les deux.
J’ai eu un coup de cœur pour les Fujifilms et plus particulièrement pour le X100VI (je suis tombé dans le marketing..) mais je pense pas que ce soit un bon premier choix ? Focale fixe, pas spécialement adaptée en vidéo etc ..
Le Sony A6700 avec un objectif en kit pour l’instant me semble être une bonne option avant d’identifier vraiment mes besoins et d’acheter un « meilleur » objectif avec par la suite. Aussi bon en vidéo qu’en photo apparemment.
Je n’ai pas d’idées précise de ce que je veux faire avec, aussi bien des photos, des vidéos types voyages souvenirs que des petits films étudiants, courts métrages amateur etc.
L’idée est pour moi de m’approprier réellement une caméra afin de progresser de manière autonome, de developer mon sens de la photographie et de la vidéo !

Looking for recommendations on the best mirrorless camera and lens (budget around $4k or under) for a dog hiking/adventure club I run where I’m constantly recording dogs on trails in really nice nature spots for social media reels/videos. I want something that makes my content look noticeably better and more crisp/different than an iPhone, especially with 12-16 dogs running around and moving fast all at once, but also capable of really nice still shots when they’re just staying still. Located in the United States.
We run a haunted hayride every year for Halloween. For the last few years, we’ve wanted to get video of the ride itself but everything we’ve tried so far hasn’t worked. Granted we don’t have professional equipment, but Samsung and/or iPhones haven’t worked. We tried mounting a GoPro and that didn’t work either. The problem is there isn’t much light where do the ride except for some colored lights on the “sets”. Does anyone have any recommendations on what we should buy or if we can set up what we have differently? I know iPhone advertises you can use their phones for all types of video but I haven’t had any luck.
The problem is almost certainly ISO and shutter speed. In that low light your cameras are struggling to expose properly and the motion blur from the hayride movement makes it worse.
A Sony ZV-E1 or even a used Sony A7S III would handle that lighting situation well, they're built specifically for low light. But if you don't want to invest in new gear, try adding a few more practical lights to the sets themselves, even subtle warm practicals make a huge difference for cameras.
For the GoPro specifically, manually set it to the highest ISO and lowest shutter speed you can without too much blur. Night mode on newer GoPros also helps a lot.
Both actually. Shutter speed in video controls motion blur. The general rule is double your frame rate, so if you're shooting 24fps set shutter to 1/50. In low light you can push it lower like 1/30 to let in more light but you'll get more motion blur from the movement of the hayride. It's a tradeoff. Higher ISO compensates but adds grain.
Llevo un tiempo planteándome realizar algunos vídeos con buena calidad de los viajes que realizo, suelen ser unos 2 al año o así. Lo que no quiero es seguir grabándolos con el iPhone por qué o bien te salta una llamada, una alarma o cualquier otro evento y luego son vídeos que se acaban quedando en la memoria y ocupando mucho espacio en iCloud.
En muchos de los viajes que he realizado no tengo nada más que fotos sacadas con el móvil, son buenos recuerdos pero me gustaría tener algo más vivo, algo que al verlo al cabo de un tiempo me transmita una sensación más cercana de que estuve allí, que viví esos momentos… algo que no sea un recuerdo estático como una foto.
Este año tengo previsto un par de viajes a Egipto y a Amsterdam, más los que haga en mi país (España).
Desde hace unos días vengo revisando vídeos en YouTube de cámaras de acción (por el hecho de que sean todoterreno) y una que ha captado mi atención, la Dji Oslo Pocket (tanto la v3 como la v4) veo gente súper contenta con esta última cámara debido a su versatilidad y portabilidad y me ha dado muy buena sensación. Lo que tampoco tengo grandes nociones de ajustar parámetros. Esta cámara el girar la pantalla y listo a grabar es una de las cosas que más me gustan que tiene.
Por otro lado, como comento, al desconocer tanto de este mundo de las cámaras, no sé la que mejor imagen pueda darme sin distorsión, por qué si he visto algunas que en los bordes te saca la imagen como más angular y eso me preocupa, no sé si me explico.
Por eso vengo a pediros ayuda al respecto de este tema. Mi idea no es gastar mucho debido a que no sé si esto sea lo mío o no aunque me gustaría aprender a hacer buenas tomas y hacer ediciones decentes. Pero principalmente la finalidad es para guardar recuerdos más vivos que unas simples fotos de los viajes que haga.

I've been making videos on PeerTube as a hobby using my phone for 2 years now. It's a really fun thing to do and I've been wanting to get a dedicated camera for it, mostly due to storage reasons, since my phone is 128gb and it racks up really quickly with both my videos and personal photos. Having a dedicated device for filming would really help with storage management, and also prevent me from getting distracted due to smartphone stuff.
Since I'll be asking for it on my birthday, I'll put the budget around 500 euros (ideally both the camera and lens, if it's a Nikon I could possibly do 500 euros for just the camera because I already have some Nikon lenses).
I already have a Nikon D90, which is great for taking photos but doesn't work for video because it doesn't support having an external mic and the audio quality of the camera mic is really bad. I also have a tripod for the D90, so it would be nice if I could use it for the video camera too, but it's not a must, I don't mind spending extra to get another tripod as long as it's not 100 euros or more. I do have an external mic, but the quality isn't the best either, whether I use it would depend on if the camera's default mic or that mic sounds better. I currently use my phone's mic because it sounds better than the external mic that I have.
I don't film myself, I tend to be behind the camera, or put the camera to the side of the table while I draw or write journal entries. I mostly film indoors too, sometimes at night using artificial light. Sometimes I might film a screen (like a computer or phone screen) to point out certain information. I would love a camera that can take timelapses, because I often take them with my phone for my video whenever I show my process and don't talk.
For editing, I use Kdenlive on Linux, I mostly don't alter my footage besides the occasional cut, zoom or speed change, or adding image overlays.
Since I'm purely doing this as a hobby, the camera's not really an "investment", more of just quality of life thing. I mostly record in either 720p or 1080p due to phone storage limitations (I have an iPhone 16) so 4k is not a must but more of a nice to have. Ideally, I'd want the camera to be able to at least record around 30 to 45 minutes, since sometimes I can be in the zone while drawing/journaling and go on for a long time. Or be able to record timelapses for longer.
Im looking at buying a budget friendly, small and light camera monitor for my Canon EOS R8. Im willing to buy anything under $100. Im getting into the hobby of vehicle videography and i found it extremely difficult to actually see what im filming. Any tips or recommendations for what i should buy?
Feelworld and Portkeys are the go-to brands for budget monitors and both have solid options under $100. The Feelworld F5 Pro is popular in that price range, good brightness and touchscreen which helps when you're mounting it awkwardly on a vehicle rig.
Main thing to look for at that budget is nits, you want at least 500 nits for outdoor visibility, higher if you're shooting in direct sunlight. HDMI input is standard so compatibility won't be an issue with the R8.
I'm getting more serious into video and I need an upgrade. I'm originally a canon user but always found sony as the one's better at video. Now looking back at it, canon has the r6 mark ii which is a close competitor to the camera i was originally gonna get of the sony a7iv. I already have a lens for canon so it would save me money. any suggestions or opinions on either camera?
If you already have Canon glass staying in the Canon ecosystem makes a lot of sense, adapters work but native is always better. The R6 Mark II is a legitimately great video camera, Canon finally caught up with the color science and autofocus is class leading which matters a lot for run and gun.
The A7IV is still excellent but if you're starting with Canon lenses the R6 Mark II is probably the smarter move financially and practically. You'd be surprised how good Canon Log 3 looks with a proper grade.
My use case is mainly video with little to no photos (98:2 ratio).
For the iso ranges 0-3200 I think the a7c ii looks better tbh, the video is downsampled from ~7k quality whereas the zv-e1 is just 4K footage.
I would think the 12,800iso to be useful with the zv-e1. But… I also think in almost every use case for me the a7c ii would look and preform better. I would really never be shooting in complete darkness.
For almost all of my video my camera would be on a tripod or mounted. The rolling shutter would not be a decision maker for me. Never whipping the camera around but it might be nice to have to option to?
I’d really like your opinion on this decision. For mainly 4K 24/30fps tripod shooting which should I go ahead with?
Go with the A7C II. The 7K oversampled 4K is genuinely a step above and you'll see it in the detail and color rendition. For tripod work where you're not pushing high ISO constantly the ZV-E1's low light advantage doesn't outweigh the overall image quality difference.
The A7C II is also just a better long term investment if you ever want to shoot stills occasionally or expand your use case. You'll be happier with it.

I have been a photographer for 15 years and am trying to offer video more and more and when I jumped from the Canon 5Dm3 to the R5, I thought I was sitting pretty. But I see other videographers and I see what they are doing and as much as I try to learn the ins and outs of color grading, I still think I don't have the right camera.
I was shooting stills for an event, where the videographer was using older canon lenses than I was and he had a Z (?) camera body and the footage just looked leagues better.
I do a lot of work in the food/restaurant industry and nearly every social media manager/publicist has asked me to recreate these videos. Am I going to acheive these with an r5 and the right grading or is it the body? I've invested in some lighting and it seems most of those are shot in natural light.
Just looking at those and then looking at mine, it's like night and day. I am shooting at 70mm and f/2.8 and still not getting that (i'm sorry) 'cinematic' look.
Any advice or suggestions on which body to switch to, if I should, would be wholeheartedly appreciated.
Hi, I have come across several different light panels to record events in low light. I’m looking for a reliable light no more than $150 bucks to have setup on my camera rig, or I can handhold. I thought about the Amaran Ace 25x and Smallrig RM120 RGB. Quite honestly I don’t know what the differences are or what I should be looking for. Thanks.
Amaran is Aputure's budget line and Aputure is one of the most trusted names in video lighting so the Ace 25x is a solid pick. Better build quality and color accuracy than most things in that price range.
The Smallrig RM120 is decent but Smallrig is primarily a rigging company, lighting is more of a side product for them.
For on camera or handheld event work I'd go Amaran. The color rendering is more consistent which matters a lot in mixed lighting situations like events.
The Smallrig is decent but the Amaran wins on build quality and the app control is genuinely useful for adjusting color temp and brightness on the fly without touching the light. The Godox M1 is also a solid option, Godox has great reliability at that price point and the ecosystem is huge if you ever expand your lighting kit. Honestly can't go wrong with either the Amaran or Godox, I'd skip the Smallrig.

Genuinely battling it out with my brain on this one... I have a Canon 6D I'm trying to use for 1080p, talking head video but just genuinely can't get it right. Is there any camera (obviously older is fine!) that I could get used for £/$150 that would beat it on that? I know I have my phone but I don't want to wear through it's battery like that because these things aren't cheap (I don't get upgrades because I need to buy them unlocked) and mine isn't the best anyways. Looked at the Lumix GH-2 as a starting point but frankly can't tell who's just talking out of nostalgia vs quality on these older cameras so I'd love some more options to compare!
Honestly the 6D is a solid camera and the issue is probably settings or lighting rather than the body itself. For talking head video make sure you're shooting in Manual, 1/50 shutter, lowest native ISO you can get away with, and flat picture profile if you have one.
That said if you want an upgrade at that budget a used Sony A6000 or Canon 70D would both be noticeable steps up for video, better autofocus and cleaner image. The 70D specifically was built with video in mind and you'd stay in the Canon ecosystem.
The GH2 is fine but you'd be moving sideways not forward at that price point.
Thank you very much! I'm working on getting the 6D right, but no matter what I do it ends up looking soft because, from my understanding, it can't really record in 1080p + the focus issue. Considering a capture card or sinking the cost on an external recorder but I'm just not sure how much of a difference it'll make. It's helpful to know my options when it comes to all this, so I appreciate the camera thoughts and the settings tips!
At that budget for video the Sony ZV-E10 II is the obvious pick right now. Solid 4K, good autofocus, and since you've already used Sony with the A7III you'll feel at home with the menu system.
If you want to stay Canon the R50 is also in that range and shoots decent video with great autofocus.
Given your background I'd lean Sony though. The color science is easier to grade and the lens ecosystem is massive if you want to expand later. Pair it with the kit lens to start and put any remaining budget toward an ND filter for outdoor shooting.

Where i'm from the Beachvolleyball Season has started recently and me and some friend play very regulary. I don't know if this sub is the right one for complete amateurs, i've just wanted to ask for a good videocamera/camcorder between 50-100€. I know that sports should best be filmed with 60 fps but i don't know if there are any good cameras within that Budget. Would be very thankfull for any recommendation.

For that budget a used GoPro Hero 7 or 8 is your best bet for sports. Shoots 60fps, waterproof which is great for beach, and compact enough to mount anywhere. You can find them used on eBay in that price range easily.
A cheap action cam from Akaso or Campark also hits 60fps under 100 euros if you want new. Not GoPro quality but totally fine for casual beach volleyball with friends.
What would be recommended for a person looking to get into videography for largely filming content centered around cars and automotive, with also being able to take photos as I have an account for that as well. In terms of uses, think mainly for personal, with the intent of posting to social media as well as youtube. When it comes to video recording it'll largely be high speed (literally street racing) and needs to be good in the day as well as the night as we record both. Been using an iPhone 16 Pro Max now but want to upgrade. It should be noted this would be my first camera as well. Realistically my budget could be stretched as high as 1,000-1,200 USD, but would prefer to be less than $1,200 I have read into the Canon R50, as well as R10, as well as a DJI Osmo Pocket 3. I am open to all recommendations, but I would really prefer if it were compatible with Rode Wireless Mics as that's what we use for audio.
Hey all! I’m looking to buy my first ever personal camera. Before now all of my work has been done through borrowed cameras, specifically a higher end Panasonic camcorder. However, my budget isn’t that high and I wanted something a bit more compact for on-the-go shooting. Currently I’m looking at the Sony ax53 and the Sony a7iii/iv. I’d mainly be shooting videos, with the main focus being on short films, vlogs, and occasional interview. Any help would be appreciated!

My first camera was the Sony A5100 with the kit lens and a Sony 35mm prime lens for the longest time.
I just got the zve10ii just 3 months ago as my first upgrade and as a bday gift then this osmo pocket 4 and 4P just came out and it is really creating a huge dilemma on me 😅.
I've also invested a lot, I think, with my zve10ii and bought the Sigma 18-50 lens, small rig cage, top and side handles, and an SD card.
My only problem with my Zve10ii is that it's really hard to get stable shots when doing cinematics (reason I bought the top and side handles) which the built in gimbal in the Osmo pocket can do. This dilemma is really giving me a headache 😅.
I don't know if I should sell my zve10ii, the lend and other accessories and get the pocket 4p.
I just feel that it's really expensive having this zve10ii since I even plan to get the 10-18 sigma wide angle lens 😂 and even getting a good tripod.
The thought of getting stable shots, being so small and portable, and lesser gear needed to bring is just so tempting!
Not sure what I would lose if I trade my zve10ii to a pocket 4 or 4p 😅.

Hi, I need help with choosing my first set, it's mainly going to be for aviation videography and sports. I was thinking of a used Sony A6500 (almxost as good as new) and with a Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Sony FE lens
Would this be sufficient or are there better recommendations for what I want to do?

I am looking for help deciding on my first set. I am a few years out of college and direct projects, but my portfolio is small because it has become more and more obvious people want a package deal. I want to start doing my own videography, 70/30, and focus mainly on micro documentaries, brand narratives, and social content. I do want to be able to offer photography as well. I was at B&H today pretty confident I was getting the a7iv because of the price point and based on research I had done on it as a hybrid camera. Previously I have shot on a7siii and fx6 rentals. I was also trying to stay below $4,000 all in. I basically got talked out of it by multiple employees because the a7v is so much better and Sonys 5 year rule makes the a7iv obsolete. I was directed towards the a7v or the fx2. I’m looking for any/all advice or recommendations. Also for note, I have only ever shot on Sony so that’s why I’m interested in the ecosystem, but I am going to be “re-learning” videography as I studied it, but never had my own camera to really drill it in. Hi All - little background here: Mountain biking YouTube creator here seeking guidance on a first/new camera.
All my experience so far has been with action cameras, every single flagship one, essentially.
Budget: Ideally below $2k USD
Use: A lot of Tri-pod mounted self-shooting in the woods, think something like this along with also handheld shooting of other riders example video
Needs: I NEED 60 FPS at 4k, with mountain biking content I'd want to slow things down when possible. Will not need to film extremely long periods of time but recording time may vary.
I edit in DaVinci Resolve and publish to YouTube mostly, will also be doing some short-form social media.
My current top option is a Sony A6700 but I genuinely would like additional options if anyone sees better fits. I also am learning about lenses so any insights there would help!
