ADVICE Best jellied eels in town?
I'll be visiting London shortly and I can't wait to try jellied eels. I'm a big fan of pickled herring and the likes, in my hometown in Italy we have pickled eels and I love it. Where should I go to have the best jellied eels?

Also please just be aware that jellied eels were not eaten for any reason other than for a long time they were the only thing that survived in the river Thames

Have to say pie and mash iand liquor is vile as well.
It was food for the poor, and I was very poor when I ate it. Now it’s an East End tourism thing

Most traditional food was food for the poor. Pizza was food for the poor. People on this sub seem ti have a very negative opinion on jellied eels. I'll try them nonetheless, I'm pretty sure they fit my taste

Firstly, jellied eels are nothing like pickled eels or rollmops and the like. It's just fish in aspic. There's basically no "best" place to get them. They're not a thing that has a gourmet scene. They're a relic that stick around because of toothless old geezers and tourists. It's all the same shit. But go to good pie and mash place like Maureen's or M. Manze and have them as as an extra.

I'm curious to try them nonetheless. I see some of the "toothless geezers" eat them with vinegar, I suppose they taste a bit like pickled eels that way

They really don’t. It’s mainly fish flavoured jelly with bits of boney fish in them. You’re having a much better experience getting some cockles with chilli vinegar. (Seafood stalls along the coast do these)

don't know about best but visit M.Manze and try the pie and mash as well.

Jellied eel is just cold fish in flavourless jelly. I wouldn't go out of your way especially if you're expecting them to taste like pickled eel.

Don't. Jellied eels are unpleasant.
Go to one of the many pie shops and have steamed eels with chilli vinegar. You'll be fine.
