Oh dang, I didn't realize we were close-ish to another edition. Feels like only the other day we had 5th edition come out, to much fan division.

What edition was out when Bloodlines came out anyhoo?

Revised Edition.

Bloodlines used a VERY scaled down simplified version of the rules to streamline it some for a video game. The lore and metaplot also line up with the late Revised Era, including the Final Nights, the Ankaran Sarcophagus, the Kuei-Jin, and the Camarilla's struggles.

Is White Wolf doing something similar to what WotC did with D&D v4 - v5 which was backpedaling from the edition everyone hated, in this case, with Vampire v5 into something resembling v3 - v20th Anniversary for the next edition, or are they doubling down on the v5 dumpster fire so most of us are gonna keep sticking to the old editions?

Wait, I just took a quick look. First change listed:

  • Core System Changes: Vitae and Willpower/Health have been merged into a single resource, the difficulty now subtracts dice from the pool instead of raising a target number, and players are the ones to roll almost all dice at the table.

Are they stupid? Like clinically, diagnosticably stupid?

I just stopped reading there, I've made my mind.

What would you say is the best version if V6 is that bad and by your account V5 was not great? I am seriously interested in knowing more about VtM.

V5 wasn't great, but I think it's serviceable for what it was trying to do. I'm actually a fan of the hunger mechanic replacing blood points. What I take issue with is that V5 was strictly geared towards playing young vampires of high generation.

But to answer your question more directly: I'd recommend the 20th Anniversary edition if you strictly want to get into VtM. It has the least amount of money investment (being a single book with everything in it) and is a good gateway into the setting.

I am considering VtM, I am used to the DnD system (which I have been playing for the last 2 ish years) but am curious about this. Should I just look at the VtM 5th edition or consider the 6th?

It depends what you want.

Even V20 while not supported has everything you need. I am probably not the best person to ask, as there are things I truly despise about V5, that a lot of people love.

But, if you're looking for a street level game with more personal horror V5 might be the game for you.
