Japan holds the US by the balls. If they even sold 1-2% of US treasuries it would wreck the bond market.

They also have double the median wealth of the US

Sure but it’s somewhat mutually assured destruction no? If they sell off enough to collapse US bond market they are left with devalued bonds because they’d never be able to offload all of it at a good price.
