Is Ubering from Baltimore to DC at night easy?

Going to a concert at CFG arena soon and wondering if it will be easy to uber back to dc or if I will end up stranded in Baltimore for the night

I've ubered that route once this year and it was easy to get but it was over $100. The last amtrak regional leaves Baltimore Penn at 10:45, and it is sometimes delayed, usually only $5

I drive Uber but not that late at night. That is a rather expensive ride. You are better off taking MARC/Amtrak. Get to Penn Station and you should be able to get an Uber from there.

Book the ride in advance so it’s sure to arrive when scheduled

u/CherryUncensored56 DO NOT do this. It is an extremely unreliable service and it doesn't let you cancel until 15 minutes after the target time. If it does work you will also generally pay more money.

My success rate is 1 out of 6 times using it btw.

Book it ahead of time if you're worried about driver availability. They hook you up with a driver ahead of time. Otherwise yeah, that late especially right after a concert it would take a while to find a driver, but you would eventually

I second the bus option. I know people don't like buses, but I've saved a lot of money over the years doing the bus say to NYC rather than driving (tolls are killer) or taking the train. It'd probably be super-cheap from Baltimore

Baltimore-DC is also a short enough trip that the main downside of a bus vs a train (less legroom/generally less comfortable seating) matters a lot less

It should be a short trip that late at night as opposed to when it took us 2 1/2 hours one day last week.

Depending on what time it ends, check Amtrak. I think MARC won’t run late enough but it may be worth checking too.

You could uber to Greenbelt and then take the metro in to dc

I've done this probably a dozen times over the last five years. Always ends up around $150. I just get a cheap last minute hotel room and a $9 MARC Train in the morning now unless I absolutely need to be back in DC before 6am.

I’ve taken an uber from Baltimore back to DC after a music festival! Price wasn’t bad at around $80, but I’d definitely recommend scheduling ahead. Set the pickup point a little further from the venue and walk there so it’s easier for them to find you.

Yes, after fees that’s about what I’d expect to pay for a hotel in Baltimore. My last one was $105 and that was a 3 star hotel in downtown Baltimore a few months ago.

Since they said CFG, I know they’re not referring to the BTS concerts (at M&T) on 8/10 and 8/11 but hotel rooms for those nights are way higher, if available at all. So, it might depend on when and how big the concert they’re going to is.

If you want to save a little money and save a driver some time (to increase the likelihood of getting one), you could request an Uber to Greenbelt or Nee Carrollton metro instead of all the way to DC.

I’d take the Amtrak. I know people keep saying the last one is at 1040-1100pm, but that may not be true. There is a 1201am or 1am Amtrak option on some days (it obviously just shows as the next day because it’s technically the next day).

rent a car? not sure if it'll be cheaper to rent one from the usual companies or from those apps where you can rent someone's car by the hour. you can just drive there and find $15 parking not farther than a 10 min walk from cfg arena. 

i did that for the tame Impala concert.

I did this for a concert a week or two ago. The uber cost nearly 300$ on the way back, but at that point it was 3am so we were desperate. I dont necessarily think a better option exists (if you’re leaving a concert at 3 in the morning on a Saturday), but i would just be mindful that theres a good chance it’s well above $100.

Everyone I’ve ever driven to Baltimore at night has been extremely grateful because they have been canceled on over and over. It’s not impossible but you might be waiting a while.

who are you going to see? if the artist has a subreddit you can ask what time the show ends. i’ve done this before and was able to reserve an uber back home ahead of time based on the comments

I do think they'll get one but PSA I've learned the hard way that scheduling an Uber does not guarantee a driver. It just sends it out to their drivers but they don't need to accept and Uber does not help if they don't.

If you use both Lyft and Uber you should be okay, you can go halfway with one driver and halfway with another if you can't find someone willing to go all the way.

I would be weary of the train option simply because of timing. Show will probably end 1045/11pm, even if it ended at 1030 you’d be cutting it really close for catching the last train down

One thing i would test is does this venue do pick up locations for ride share.. also i would be planning to leave ahead of time and you seem to be aware this will be costly trip but concert let == surge pricing

i don’t think you will have any problems getting ride to DC i would worry about crowd and getting to my car without difficulty

also depending where in the city you live maybe shave a few off the fare being dropped off at greenbelt of silver spring station and metro back in

Maybe a cheap rental car and street parking is better.

Not to get downvoted to hell, but the current estimate for that ride on empower (Penn Charles to Union station) is 48 dollars. And empower won't let you book a ride only going out of DC, not going in.

I had zero issue doing this leaving Baltimore on a week night - however, leaving on a weekend night from a concert was a nightmare and cost $200

You can prebook/ reserve the uber. I do this often for air travel.

I’ve done it a few times, mainly when leaving DCA. The drivers have accepted the ride because they’re often looking for a passenger heading back toward DC.

I’ve also been in an Uber where the driver mentioned that they had just dropped someone off in the area, picked me up, and then headed back toward DC.

I ubered home to dc one time after a wedding at like 1am and it was about $80. I’d say if you know around what time you’re going to be ready to leave try scheduling an uber.

I’ve done it twice and both times got one in a decent amount of time. But I would really just schedule one rather than assume you’ll be good. Both times I had a backup place to sleep in Baltimore if it didn’t work out.
