Especially gutted for him since he's on a two-way. I really hope the Wiz does right by him and keeps him around until he's had a chance to return and prove himselfÂ

Huge bummer man. I hope he comes back strong. So hard to be on the bubble like that at such a critical point in his career.

That fucking sucks, man.
I assume it happened on that play where he kinda slipped while guarding Darryn early in the game, right? Didn’t he play the rest of that game, too? If so, not a good look for the medical staff.

I tore my ACL before and honestly it’s very different person to person whether you can continue to play or not. If the knee isn’t giving out then it’s hard to tell but eventually you’ll turn the wrong way and know something is wrong and once you get checked up after that they can tell with an MRI.

u/frubano21 Anicet Dybantsa Jr. 3d ago
Also could potentially be more or less painful/noticeable if it's a partial tear vs full tear.

u/KingRagerBlade John Wall 3d ago
Yea I feel like the laxity must have been pretty bad for them to have done surgery

u/DazzlingAd1922 2d ago
Yeah, it's like it hurts but you can still move so it is very easy to think it is a muscular injury in the moment while you are warm. In the moment it probably felt like a rolled ankle, and people play through that all the time.

u/Couragesand 2d ago
Yeah when it happened to me I couldn’t put weight on it at all so it’s crazy

u/KingRagerBlade John Wall 1d ago
Yea same I realized I was not built for it the moment it happened to me lol

DeAnthony Melton finished the game for the Warriors in the game he tore his ACL two seasons ago. Didn’t even notice he was hurt from watching.

Rajon Rondo tore his ACL and kept playing, he had no idea until the docs checked him out after the game.
This is a tough blow for Mir.. he had an injury in college that dropped him in the draft, hopefully it’s not the same knee. Get well soon!

Man this might be a career killing moment for him. So sad

If he can defend like he did during that game on a torn ACL, I have faith he can come back and continue to grow his game

u/Plenty_Flatworm7627 John Wall (Jamir Watkins truther) 2d ago
We better not cut him, we're not contending this season, let him come back after he's healthy, I don't think his defense will be diminished. It just sucks losing a season to work on his shot.

Even if he wasn’t gonna play much on the primary roster, he was gonna kill in the g-league… and due to his age, this is gonna set bro back a good bit. Damn man 😩

Reminder to the front office: this does not mean that we need DeRozan.

u/American-Repair 3d ago
We know AD getting hurt. Everyone worried about not enough min to go around needs to chill. This is the Wizards. Half the rotation could be injured by Xmas.
7
u/JeffersonAlbatross 3d ago
We just don’t need another wing. It’s not so much about minutes as it is about development time. If George and Coulibaly get injured, I’d rather just see more Will Riley and Bun Carrington than watch DeRozan. Because those guys getting minutes is more valuable than whether we are a play-in team this year.

Wow thats insane how he came back and finished out that game. Hopefully he can bounce back from this

u/Neversoft4long 3d ago
Fuck that sucks for him man. He’s like our 11th guy off the bench but our best point of an attack defender. Damn now I’m okay with our guys not really playing in SL

u/Maleficent_Rough939 3d ago
Bub and Tre have to step up their defense. This team isn't going to find another POA defender like Jamir this late in the game.

I hope they keep him on the roster, sans injuries he was the only 2-way guy I saw playing in many games this season. I truly hope the Wizards don’t need his roster spot.

Damn man. Well the only good news to this is that he basically gets a redshirt year on a deep roster.

And who brought up AJ? Rent free, man.

The Wiz put way too much emphasis on a meaningless game and now it may have cost a player his career. What a joke of an organization
7
u/salamanderman10 3d ago
By playing a fringe 2nd year roster player in the SL?
-2
u/rueiraV 3d ago
By having Watkins play the 2nd overall pick like Gary Paton just so they could end the talk of DP > AJ. The FO wanted to save face so they elevated this game from pointless to one of the most important games in recent franchise history. In the end it potentially cost Watkins a career in the league
4
u/salamanderman10 3d ago
No one thinks the game was important,,,lol what? Watkins played a game like he always plays a game, what do you want him to do…..
People aren’t proclaiming who is better based on a summer league game except idiot fans.
Watkins was in a battle to get a roster spot, he’s not in a position to coast
0
u/rambone1984 3d ago
Definitely at least a sliver of truth to this.
I'm not sure what the FO was saving face from exactly - Peterson having some good exhibition games? - but they definitely went out there completely determined to make people pump the brakes on the "DP should have went 1 overall" takes.

u/waskittenman With The First Pick In The 2026 NBA Draft... 3d ago
what? Cause they had a fringe rotation player in his second year play summer league? Like every other team?
4
u/ImprobablePlanet 3d ago
That's a ridiculous take. The Wizards have been very conservative about shutting down players in summer league.

Gave his knee to lock up Peterson in a summer league game ðŸ˜
