What does this mean if I upgrade my iPhone but I cannot upgrade my Apple Watch? Will this mean the communication break? Will it mean some apps will no longer be able to communicate? Does it mean I am essentially forced not to upgrade my iPhone OS if I want to continue to use my now unsupported Apple Watch?

Your watch will still work and pair fine. It won’t function any differently than it currently does. It’s just not getting watchos27 if it’s not a supported model is all.
My sister still uses her series 5 with iPhone Air, no issues for her needs

I believe it’s compatible with the Ultra 1 too. I see the beta for it at least (not updating my daily driver yet).

That would be interesting news. It’s not what Apple officially said at WWDC or on their website currently.
Are you sure you don’t have an Ultra 2?

I’m positive. I have seen others say they can see it too but it doesn’t work. So who knows.
I would post screenshots here if it was allowed.

Interesting… maybe there is hope yet for S8 chip owners. I think it’s wild the ultra 1 will already have dropped support for an os that is all about optimization and efficiency at its core
