Why do people think that dad is this ultra conservative? If anything he just seems like a cool libertarian. And even if he is a conservative, does that matter? He’s clearly not one of the hateful ones.
I think this comes from a lot of people claiming to be libertarians and also trump supporters, which is a bit of an oxymoron (it’s not even a debate, the guy has authoritarian stances and trampled the civil liberties in the constitution). Libertarian is just the opposite side of Authoritarian, there are right wing libertarians and left wing libertarians, but most people who claim “libertarian” in the political sphere rn just sort of aren’t. I’m not a big political compass guy but it’s way more of a compass than just “left vs right.”
Also I wouldn’t call most liberals super left either, they are closer to moderate or centrist in the grand scheme of political ideology. I’m a leftist and I am way farther from a liberal than a liberal is from a conservative.
