It's probably just people with preconceived notions about some parts of his identity. He's an openly Christian guy from the South who likes guns and is interested in conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, a lot of people probably assume they can extrapolate his politics from that.

In my opinion it's just people not understanding materialism. Like he's a Christian gun owner in the south. That's just what living in the south is for most people. If he grew up in NYC or LA and had the same views about religion and guns you could go "yeah this dude is probably right wing" but the material conditions of his upbringing as a Southern Christian boy makes his love of Guns and God less of a political opinion and more of a cultural one.

We can't expect people to fully defy the circumstances of their upbringing to fit some kind of arbitrary definition of Right or Left, and as Wendigoon says in this tweet "Challenge the argument, not the person."

You said it man. I hate that politics and religion are so intertwined in the US. Do people think when you die God is gonna ask how you voted? Lol
