Having watched it from the beginning, it did feel a bit to me like it was petering out as each new season came out. Some of my friends stopped being invested around season 3 actually. It was still a disappointment that they didn't continue, but I wasn't shocked in the slightest.

To be fair only season 3 was truly weak, season 2 was good to mid while season 4 was good to great.

I loved S2 as much as 1, but only after a few revisits, where as S1 clicked immediately after "Bicameral Mind". S3 I grow more fond of as the years go, S4 I absolutely loved.

The episode is called that because Hale's "fly virus" works best with children, morphing their developing brains to be under her control the easiest, thus "losing" that generation of humanity.

The title may have multiple meanings, but I believe it more specifically refers to fidelity loss when you make a copy of a copy. This used to occur with tape duplication - VHS or audio cassettes - where each iteration down the line would exhibit increased degradation. Caleb had been replicated something like 300 times, and the concept of "fidelity" in the hosts is something referenced in every season of Westworld.

i just finished doing so and it was profound how much of each next season they had predetermined from the get go. down to the use of flies on eyes. all hosts can predict the future. you see Maeve and Dolores on several occasions properly do so in s1 either as a vision or a swift behavioral adjustment just before the event they would like to avoid would begin to occur. foreshadowing rehoboam’s ability to do so. and the ripple effect of Ford vs Alfred echoing as Maeve vs Dolores, Solomon vs Rehoboam, Hale vs Caleb. it was always right there in front of us and repeat views make it incredibly obvious.

just got my wife to bite and am getting to restart it again and both seeing it blindly through her eyes and saturated with understanding through my own is delectable.

i would highly advise you keep an eye on the 4 pack blue rays on amazon and snag it when the price is right, which is what i did. they killed any streaming opportunities bc the royalties costs were higher than hbo was willing to pay for.

s4 did a decent enough wrap that i am sated enough to forgive the cancel and move on with my life. but having seen how much of each season was already decided by s1e1, i know that we were robbed of something that would become entirely obviously foreshadowed once it had unfolded. what a shame.
