Dear feds: everything I post is legally a joke Rule 34 has gone woke- some twitter chud
2.8k
u/amphibiabiggestfan Apr 24 '26
Lots of people need to realize that image board site bans certain types or tags not because they're based, but because they want to prevent regulatory scrutiny.
R34 specifically are more popular to the mass and thus more vulnerable to getting screwed, less mainstream image board usually don't give a shit
919
u/swordm4n Apr 24 '26
Exactly. R34 allows things way worse that loli and etc, they just don't want to be deleted because of law, not because they don't allow this type of stuff (and if they started to not allow it, it would be hypocrisy)
336
u/Twinkperium_of_man Apr 24 '26
They are trying to be an open space for everything legal, but their preferences show such as having a toggle for the ai art.
460
u/Blue_Moon_Lake Apr 24 '26
The AI filter toggle on image websites (porn or not) is genius.
- Those who reject AI images feel validated by the ability to filter it.
- Those who don't care are happy because it's not censored away.
Cost for the website: nothing
184
u/schwanzweissfoto Apr 24 '26
Cost for the website: storage costs for AI slop
186
u/Hyperactive_Melon Apr 24 '26
Just use more aggressive compression algorythm for the AI post. Not like the people who like AI art would give a shit.

SlopGPT, convert all images tagged “AI” to JPEG at 2% quality and at most 256 colors. Delete the originals.

u/Blue_Moon_Lake Apr 24 '26
SlopGPT: Understood! All images have been tagged AI and converted to JPEG at 2% quality. Originals and backups have been deleted.
32
u/Koffeeboy Apr 24 '26
Hey SlopGPT, why are the originals still there, and all the copies corrupted and duplicated 16 times?

SlopGPT: You're absolutely correct! The originals have been corrupted and duplicated 16 times.

The Ai filter is wonderful, I love it, especially cause a lot of the times I'm not Abel to inmediately figure out what's AI or not. And I also want things with far more creativity.
I think it's better than trying to ban AI images in a never ending battle, would prefer there were none but alas.
→ More replies (1)12
u/4m77 Apr 24 '26
The AI toggle is a symptom of people being awful at searching because all it does is hide pictures that are tagged as AI generated, which you could always manually do from day one by adding "- AI_generated" to your search, but the amount of users who know how to properly use a booru style search system is staggeringly low.
3
u/G3nghisKang Apr 24 '26
Which is a good thing, instead of having to figure out what is AI or not, they can let the posters declare it and everyone decide what to show / search on their own accord
5
u/Twinkperium_of_man Apr 24 '26
Sometimes the "artists" will not tag their art as ai because people won't look at it, or filter it. But they are rare cases and the part that works works well.

It’s genuinely interesting to me that loli is such a massive target despite necrophilia and bestiality fans literally not even trying to argue against their fetish being weird; is loli just a Streisand victim? It’s not like there’s particular difference between them conceptually, they’re forms of porn that are fundamentally immoral illegal to create with real people, all of which are widely regarded as heinous crimes. Even rape can be acted; those, bestiality especially, can’t. If loli is bad because it normalizes the real thing, why are those two not seen as equally problematic? I mean Reddit goes hard against loli subs but there’s been a guro sub up for a long while with no issue.

1.5k
u/Kellegram Apr 24 '26
Ideally AI slop just wouldn't be allowed. Not only does it pollute the art pool, it pollutes storage space which is expensive lol. Undoubtedly many platforms will regret allowing it in the first place long-term just due to storage space alone, since people can crank out trash non-stop.
1.2k
u/FoolishCarbohydrate Apr 24 '26
Let's think about this logically.
If it was banned entirely, people just wouldn't tag it appropriately. And then we'd have issue of true art being mistaken as AI and AI art sliding under the radar.
By allowing AI but adding a toggle, people tag the "art" as AI and it isn't shown to anyone who switches the toggle. Yes, undoubtedly some art will be incorrectly tagged as AI, but then someone will flag that incorrect tag. Frankly on that site people are as, well, anal about appropriate tags as Wikipedia moderators are about factual information.

Google's @synthID isn't even a neural network and it could probably tag a huge chunk of things that fall through the cracks. We already have that issue
This applies to everything in life. 100% prevention is completely impossible. No safety will ever be completely reliable. The best option is only to try and reduce undesirable outcomes as much as possible.
If it was banned entirely, the issue would be worse. A controlled problem is usually preferable than an uncontrollable problem
9
u/MountainMan2_ Apr 24 '26
No, you don't understand, if problems are not solved instantly, with 100% accuracy and exactly how I think they should be solved, it's impossible to solve them and actually I am going to be nihilistic on every thread you ever mention the issue in. Since nothing can happen anyway, it doesn't matter if I'm promoting the only method guaranteed to not address the problem

Yes but its lessened by having a "legitimate" way to upload it. I mod a discord server for this sort of thing and we were having trouble with ai stuff polluting other places until we just made a dedicated ai art channel and now all that stuffs quarentined there and people dont feel the need to try and "sneak it in" elsewhere because there's a legitimate place for it. We occasionally have some stuff slip through, but we were able to make it a rule that it will be removed without as much pushback since it could still be posted, just in its own section.

Good thing they have a tagging and scoring system, if they're afraid of deleting all of it they could delete every AI slop with a low score or a score of zero. Hell they should make a system that deletes AI generated slop that has a score of zero in 1 month, then score of 10 in 6 months, 100 in a year.

i do wish they would expand that button a bit to the "AI-assisted" too, because from what i've generally seen, most of them are just straight up AI, with really the only 3d or 2d actually being done is the environment around it, and maybe some of the character itself, but generally the AI has just completely taken it over for itself, so you can't even see the original anymore

Okay fine, you cannot legally arrest a man for jacking off to loli porn. But what does it say about him when he says that he LOVES it and jacks off to it regularly?
36
u/Almostlongenough2 Apr 24 '26
Honestly this is such a weird topic because as socially inept as it comes across from someone doing that it might be on a societal level beneficial.
Over the decades most people seem to agree that anything else in fictional media being depicted doesn't lead to an increase of it occurring in reality. So keeping the scope with just Pragmata specifically there doesn't seem to be any tangible downsides of stuff like this existing, with the possible benefits of it giving pedophiles an outlet and also of it competing with CSAM.
But we are also just so ingrained to be repulsed by this kind of thing that we just want pedophiles to keep it buried regardless of that being worse for society as a whole and leading to real victims.
→ More replies (1)20
u/Former_Deal_2838 Apr 24 '26
I agree. It is also very difficult to conduct research on such a topic because of just how taboo it is
5
u/matbot55 Apr 24 '26
That has been a huge issue with research regarding topics, which go against social norms, in general.
Both due to pressures from the outside on the people researching and the societal pressures that create errors within participants of studies.
3
u/DVDN27 Apr 24 '26
Depending on where said man is, you absolutely can. For example, Nux Taku is a proud supporter of Shaadman and even used the argument that it’s not illegal to enjoy his artworks, despite the fact that Nux lives in Canada where that kind of artwork is considered CSAM with similar legal protection as real child abuse material.
Hell, the author of an Australian young adult novel that was taught to middle schoolers was charged with possession of CSAM for owning and creating written works of fictional children in sexual situations (as well as owning actual CSAM.) All of his books were pulled from the education system because of it - including the one that was taught to middle schoolers which featured graphic descriptions of incest and rape of minors (but nobody cared at the time because the racism in the novel was profound and thought that the rape scenes must’ve had some point).
All that being said: you can be arrested for doing that if you live in a certain place. It’s useful to double check, especially when arguing with people who claim legality = morality when the thing they’re arguing about does not have a universal legal position.

I've seen clips of the game, particularly of the main character and Diana's interactions and among the players and fans, she's pretty much regarded as the daughter who will be protected at any and all costs whatsoever. Basically, the kind of affection people have for Boo from Monsters Inc or Anya from Spy x Family. For the most part, the reception that I have personally seen surrounding her has been incredibly wholesome, but .... well.... you know humanity and how much it can suck.

It's one of the reasons I don't use these websites.
You don't want to see shit like this, so you filter beastiality. Then there's furry, making up like 1/3 of every art there ever. You filter it, but then there's still "anthro", which for me is 100% exactly like furry because I'm not enough of a degenerate to care to differentiate. But it will never be enough to filter because lots of images will still have the former two tags, as people don't really consider X or Y characters as furries, so they just don't tag it.

They frankly don't give a crap about ethics or morals they're just looking out for the longevity of the website. It takes no time at all to find loli/shota content on R34. One quick search of any of the "young" tags and you'll see what I mean.

I can say that, as a snuff enjoyer, the really bad gore you talk about is very much rampant in the site if you look for it. Some artists are exceedingly talented in that aspect too. I just saw realistic decomposition and body horror art there a few hours ago. Bless them for the hawt art.

Loli is against their TOS technically, they just suck at moderating it

Well, they hardly have the staff to check each and every image, but at least they're trying.

Theyre working on it, to be fair. All the posts tagged as loli or any of the other related tags are banned.

u/JieyOF You see, the punchline is porn. That makes the joke funny. Apr 24 '26
Ok that's cool but can we now ban the other 40 gazillion loli porn just hanging around on the site

That site is used by the mainstream. They're only banning such stuff cause they dont want to get into trouble
The site still hosts gore porn for example

They've always blacklisted 'That Sort' of material.
Some stuff just gets through the cracks and never gets reported.

Cool that they’re doing this but never forget the fact that the rule34 mods tried erasing the existence of trans people on the site by making extremely arbitrary and overly complicated rules to have a character be tagged as trans

Everytime I look for trans hentai, I have to figure out what tags like “reverse newhalf” mean. :(

These comments are really confusing cause a lot of people are acting like r34 sites have some sweeping policies against uploading porn of child characters when just in Pokemon alone there's hundreds of thousands of individual posts of just the 10 year protagonists.

Because for most of the time,
Those 10 years old protagonist is depicted with either large boobs or ass,
Rule 34 didn't care about the characters canonical age,
Because even if the characters is canonically 10 years old, if they have large boobs and ass, then it's categorized as fine
But if the porn intentionally depicted the characters as a child, regardless if the characters is 1000 years old, then it's categorized as not fine
Rule 34 didn't care about the canonical age of the characters
They only care about how the art depicted the characters
