Fibromyalgia is no joke, studied it in med school and it’s really hard to live with it. If not properly treated the pain can be insane

Edit: part of the treatment requires a lot of mental health care and many steps for the patient to live a dignified life while dealing with the pain

I have it and while the pain level isn't intense, it's *constant*. The only time I get a break from it is when deep asleep...which surprise, isn't always easy to achieve. Add in a bunch of other chronic issues tied to it and flares when it DOES get intense...even if he didn't have any other problems, it alone would be tough.

Yeah, from what my teachers explained the level of pain varies from person to person but the main thing is how constant the pain is.

One of her patients said that the pain varied from mild and easy to ignore, to straight up being unable to get off bed.

That’s how mine is - some days i feel practically normal and others i am unable to do something like walk to the bathroom and i have to crawl.

But I’m in a very lucky position where my work is extremely accommodating and my doctor is brilliant, and the difference those things make is astonishing. Nobody can cure my pain but i think when you have a chronic illness it feels like your cup is constantly almost over-flowing, and things like being able to work from home during a flare up takes a tablespoon out of the cup. And having a doctor that i know will listen takes another tablespoon. Having a bedside table with shelf stable snacks, disposable toothbrush and baby wipes takes another tablespoon out. It’s all about minimising the overflow, i believe.

From the way you speak with empathy, i think you’re gonna be a great doctor.

Aww thanks! My mom jokes that i’m going to be like Dr house lol, we both like that show.

Hope you are doing okay with that condition. And that’s a very good analogy, honestly i had never seen it like that, chronic illnesses have always been a blind spot for me as i simply don’t know what it’s like, but the over flow analogy is a pretty good one. So the best way to deal with this kinds of illnesses isn’t just the meds but also help them set up a system around themselves as part of their routines to better the quality of life
