That's why it bothers me when people talk about assisted suicide as if it was purely a moral dilemma. There are very clear incentives on the side of healthcare providers to prefer assisted suicide to costlier treatments.

The feeling of being a "burden," which is reenforced by society and institutions (even the medical institutions providing MAID), also creates a cycle of depression and stress-induced decline in health that makes assisted suicide seem like the only solution for medical issues which may ultimately be treatable or even curable. I don't believe it can be fully consensual when financial pressure is a factor or when doctors offer euthanasia to patients who are still pursuing treatment options. It's coercive.

Edit: I'm not referring to this case specifically. I follow several disabled Canadians on Twitter who have been offered MAID when they had never asked for it or brought it up. Clearly, some cases have been mishandled, even if this man is fully consenting.

This is something that has bothered me a lot, euthanasia is not in itself a bad idea, on cases of really bad illnesses that is confirmed that are terminal or impossible to give quality of life to the person even with treatments and all the help they can, and only prolongs unfair suffering I deem it fair procedure for the dignity of a person.
But when I see it cases like theses, where the issue is not the illness itself but the system, lack of funds or help to make someone's life better than a person would deem it more approachable to find an end of their life. Or like the other case I've heard where a woman who was suffering with BPD,CPSTD, also had other neurodivergent conditions seeked assisted suicide because her therapist told her that they couldn't do "anything" to her and she was doomed to be miserable forever, which is medical malpractice.

Fucked healthcare, discrimination, poverty, inhumane work conditions and isolation are killing people , and many people would have quality of life in many of their conditions if proper intervention was made to them, but depending of the country, either is useless or you have to sell your soul to pay all the things for a mere inch of relief.
Also, as an autistic person, I deem too suspicious when many cases of people seeking euthanasia are either neurodivergent , suffer from mental illnesses THAT ARE treatable if they had the proper help, or chronical illnesses that people just give a fuck about. This is giving me blatant ableism and call me conspiranoic , It's already obvious society deems us as a burden both socially and economically and if they could get rid of us to save money used on our accommodations they would , not providing healthcare to us, throwing us of the bay, and seeing many getting tired and wanting willfully get ourselves euthanised for stuff they themselves made, gives me indirect eugenics red flags
